Best song of 81, I went to a youth group on Friday night and this great song would be played 3/4 times a night.

Cool show. I prefer the swingers when it was a 3 piece though. This band should have been huge. Hope you're doing well Phil.

Phil is such a great songwriter and guitarist... but he's not a showoff. Sometimes his writing is too subtle for most people to grab. Cool intervals, harmony, and song structure. Rickenbacker 330 FIREGLO Semi Hollow ... nice Phil... nice.

This was right at the end of the band I think...they got Andrew Snoid/McLendon from Coconut Rough/Pop Mechanix to take over most of the lead...hes a great singer but I think they should have just stuck w Judd. He has such a presence that is impossible to duplicate. Look at somgs like "Sweet Dreams" and "Spellbound"...tge Enz songs he wrote and sang lead on. There are just nothing like them

Several years ago I saw a Swingers documentary. It was called something like “The Making of Practical Jokers”, and featured footage of the band recording the album along with interviews, etc. Does anyone know where it can be viewed?

I believe both Judd and Gudinski just lost faith in this later lineup and I think the band was also in debt to Mushroom.. the usual music industry BS.. To be fair the LP they *did* release was absolutely outstanding, and BTW just an observation: it sounds to me like Perry Farrell based his entire vocal style on it...

That's so weird how the audience is so still at first. Very Kiwi - you have to work hard to win us over~ Was this band new to them at the time? It's better when Phil sings and Bones who has such a complementary voice. Is this when Phil didn't like live performing so they got another singer or just sharing the love with other Kiwi performers??

Dunno why they put the other guy in there for vocals. I'm sure he's good and all but he's a bit over the top and trying too hard. I always think of the Swingers as Phil's band, and Countin the Beat shows up Snoid as being kinda pointless really. Phil's vocals are more interesting and he's way more charismatic as a front man even if he's not that keen on being one. And coming from a woman who barely even notices men, Phil is way more intriguing and handsome to look at. Also Bones is really going for it.

I'm guessing Judd wanted the band to sound stronger live- he carried a big load playing and singing (his guitar parts are not simple). I agree with you on all points and wish we had comparable footage of the three piece! Anyway, grateful for this too.
