From what I've seen at dances, the #1 thing people need to learn is that your dancing is supposed to have something to do with the music. A lot of people know some good moves but have no idea where the music beat is or even what the tempo is.

I did a lot of these moves during my "disco days". I had a friend who was a DJ at the clubs I frequented, and he would select guys (mostly from the military bases nearby, who were used to doing drills) who would be willing to learn the dance moves and would be honorable enough afterwards. I had a great time teaching them and dancing with them....thank you Miguel, especially. I got a few standing ovations and a photographer followed me around one night (totally freaked me out and made me feel like a Princess at the same time, lol) I never knew they were "swing dances". They were disco to me, lol. But...oh they were FUN!!!

I have watched a lot of jive clips and this is great. Beautifully paced for a novice or improving male. It shows the leads really nicely. I look forward to trying this out on some unsuspecting friend. A great thing is that there is no syncopation so I hope it can be danced to a lot of 4 time music. Most pop!

Thank you, this has been a very instructive dancing video for my wife and I. We watched it a couple of years ago to learn some swing dancing moves, and keep coming back to it. It's interesting that the instruction was done apart from being in time with the music, but we've found this to be an advantage. The steps and turns can be incorporated into other styles of dancing beyond swing.

I won’t say that people somewhere don’t dance this way. If you ever go to a swing dance convention or even a studio ballroom they will not recognize what you’re doing as swing. It’s annoying to be jerked around in four counts when everyone else is doing six or eight count patterns. Of course what happens in hotel bars and clubs well anything goes. They do something like this in Country Western bars. You might feel quite at home there if you like country music.
