Looks like he just scraped his finger on the wood during his cut. Pretty common.

Thank you for the great demonstrations! The videos show knife grips and techniques used on green, straight-grained birch and alder. I would like to see some demonstrations using the more challenging woods available in the US. Well seasoned black walnut, redbud maple and crab apple await. Are there other knife grips more suitable to these harder woods?

This one had alder, previous videos sounded like birch when he cut it.

@@Arzoras You can see the remains of birch bark on the pieces and also the grain and colour is very much birch.
What wood is he using? Does he ever say, in any of the episodes?
