    These are my favorite puzzles on your channel. Every time you see one of his puzzles, your brain immediately thinks "easy peasy", but you know it will never be what it seems. I love that he takes something so simple and thinks sooo far outside of the box, that when it's solved, you're still left wondering, what? How?

    I've followed your channel for years but for some reason I stopped watching your videos a couple of years ago but I've now found my way back to watching them again and I'm grateful for that. Especially the puzzle videos, they've always been a favourite of mine. They're so relaxing and are kind of taking place in their own "bubble" in the sense of the goal being as "simple" to solve the puzzle. Thank you for all the great content you've given us this far and looking forward to all the content that are to come!

    I went to puzzle master on Saturday for both of these but Bird 11 was sold out but was able to get Puzzle 16. Been playing around with it and have all but 1 piece to fit. So stressful trying to get them all in. Haha. But love ur videos, they always keep me wanting to buy more puzzles. Leon always smiles when I walk in cuz he knows I’m there to spend money. Haha

    IF I were to attempt that puzzle, I would probably label all of the slots; Then, what I would do it have a piece of paper that correlates with any puzzle piece. Then, just solve it like sudoku; try putting a piece in every slot, and write down what is possible. The solution should show itself. To make it easier, I would use graph paper; have one slot on the graph for piece, and one for the slot of the puzzle. Solution should form a diagonal line.

    I love this concept, though I think it may be possible to solve both of these in under 15 minutes using the same method. I might be crazy, but it feels like this should work: 1. Somehow label each of the pieces and holes 2. Make a list of which pieces can fit in each hole 3. Find the hole (or piece) with the fewest options. Hopefully there is one with only one option, otherwise you will have to repeat this for each option. 4. Remove that piece/hole pairing from all other lists, and repeat until every piece has a hole. If at any point there is a piece with no possible holes or a hole with no possible piece, then you know the option you picked must have been wrong. It's a simple backtracking algorithm that can be done all with a pen and paper if you really wanted. Maybe this would take all the fun out of it for most people, but it seems fun to me this way. Otherwise it's just random guessing and checking until you get lucky enough to get it.

    I think honestly the easier way to solve this, is by a grid. Label the pieces and the slots, then for each slot write down which piece fits there. (Write this down as a matrix.) Then solving the puzzle should be easy using this matrix.

    I would try to put (almost) all pieces in each hole. This would take a while, but then you know which pieces fit in the least holes and which holes can be filled by the least pieces. For example you started with a piece that only fits in a single hole. This is a great start since you can eliminate that piece and hole for the rest of the solve. If you find more of these cases, the problem reduces in complexity significantly. Who knows, maybe there exists a Sudoku-like solution for this puzzle?

    My initial thought is to just go with a bipartite graph which sounds like it would work almost flawlessly, bar the whole idea of taking time out to check every piece to every possible hole, but it would work and it’s a pretty cool yet simple application of the graph itself

  • @SZOPanther
    @SZOPanther2 жыл бұрын

    I would have approached this like a sudoku. assign each piece a number and each space a letter. You mentioned a few times how some pieces would only fit 1 spot. Try each piece in every spot noting how many spots and the variety of fits for each spot. so piece 1 can fit into spot A,D and F3x. Them mathematically put the pieces with less combinations first reducing the number of variants to solve!

    I know I'm crazy, but I'd be lining up the pieces in a grid on a piece of paper, numbering all the "spots" in the puzzle, and writing down all the spots that each piece will fit into. I'd go methodically through each piece and each spot, hoping to find pieces that only fit in one or two spots and determining what combination will fill all spots will all pieces. I'm sure it would take longer, but that's one way I can think of to methodically discover.a solution. but ANYway...

    my guess for the difference in time is the familiarity between the basic puzzle piece shapes. Even if the spaces have extra slots, you automatically know "this piece requires this shape to fit" while the circular pieces that you're not used to handling first need to be deciphered for the required spacing, the required distance, and even the normal traps you would find yourself in that you are already used to with the basic puzzle shapes... plus some dumb luck ;)
