The Supremes - Female Singing Group | Mini Bio | BIO

Ойын-сауық

The Supremes were an American female singing group and the premier act of Motown Records during the 1960s. Founded as The Primettes in Detroit, Michigan, in 1959, the Supremes were the most commercially successful of Motown's acts and are, to date, America's most successful vocal group[2] with 12 number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100.[3] Most of these hits were written and produced by Motown's main songwriting and production team, Holland–Dozier–Holland. At their peak in the mid-1960s, the Supremes rivaled the Beatles in worldwide popularity,[3] and it is said that their success made it possible for future African American R&B and soul musicians to find mainstream success. #Biography

Mary Wilson no doubt is a talent. As an original founder of the Supremes she shows the world that the dreams of 3 young girls can come true. Was she dismissed by Berry Gordy? Yes, and she now has the time to be bitter. Unfortunately it shows. God Bless you Mary!

Why do people call her bitter? I take it as keeping it 100. Berry used these girls and left them with little to nothing. Including Diana. Diana said when she left Motown was the day she learned she didn't even own the deed to her Car or even her house. Thank goodness her new contract was worth 20 million. So if there was any bitterness it was well earned towards berry. But she held respect for him even afterwards. I don't think she was bitter about Diana leaving. People forget the surpremes continued success after Diana left and Diana struggled in the beginning. It was Gordy who purposely killed the surpremes by not promoting them. Something he did with alot of his acts during his movie era. Ms Wilson is simply keeping the surpremes name alive. Cause berry nor Diana (at first) was doing that. The good bad and indifferent. Rip Flo Ballard and Mary Wilson

Florence was actually the best singer of the three, and anybody act at Motown will tell you that and have said it in so many interviews.. Ive heard both DIana and Mary live, and Mary has a much better and more powerful interesting voice than Diana , and she sounded much better than Diana live. Mary's problem is that she sings those Supreme songs that are out of her range and that dont fit the texture of her voice because they were tailor written for Diana, but when she does sing songs suited for her instrument, she blows Diana's mousy anemic 3 note range voice away.

THE SUPREMES (Florence Ballard, Mary Wilson & Diane Ross) as they are inducted into music history at "THE ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM" are the 3 "ORIGINAL FOUNDING MEMBERS"! Once Florence Ballard was "ousted and replaced" (1967) with Cindy Birdsong and they became "The Diane Ross Show/Diane Ross & The Supremes", Diane Ross jumped in the "coattail train of THE SUPREMES" that got her a "solo career" by 1969, all while giving "SEX FOR STARDOM" to Motown CEO, Berry Gordy "THE BOSS" her lover & benefactor! From 1969 to 1977 Ms Mary Wilson kept THE SUPREMES going with Cindy Birdsong, Jean Terrell, Scherrie Payne, Lynda Laurence & Susaye Greene and had their string of hits in the 1970's. Today MS MARY WILSON because her undivided, dedicated endeavor in preserving the history and achievement of the group, in 2014, she's "THE SUPREMES" LIVING LEGACY :-)

These three singles were also R&B Top Ten hits, with "Stoned Love" becoming their last No.1 R&B hit in December 1970. Songwriting/production team Nickolas Ashford & Valerie Simpson produced another Top 20 hit for the group, a Supremes/Four Tops duet version of Ike & Tina Turner's "River Deep - Mountain High". In 1972, the Supremes had their last Top 20 hit single release, "Floy Joy", written and produced by Smokey Robinson, followed by the final US Top 40 hit for the Jean Terrell-led version of the group, "Automatically Sunshine" (US number 37, UK number 10). "Automatically Sunshine" later became the group's final top 10 single in the UK. On both "Floy Joy" and "Sunshine" Terrell shared lead with Mary Wilson.

Even before they started singing at Motown, Mary Wilson was always jealous of Diana Ross. Yes, you can be jealous of your friend. I say this because Mary says somehow, we got an audition at Motown. Diana arranged for them to meet Berry Gordy by going to Smokey Robinson. Diana Ross was the one who worked as his so-called secretary so she could get on his good side, so that Berry would not lose interest in them. It was Diana who pushed Berry and Smokey to continue to give the group a chance. It was not Mary who coordinated, nor promoted this. She just jumped aboard, just as Florence did. What Mary did get right was that Florence was turned off by Berry from his initial rejection of the group.
