I started my college education in 1975. I didn’t want to burden my parents to pay for my education so I took out loans to pay for my education. I didn’t do well the first time, too much partying. Sat out for a few years then tried again. Got a degree in nursing and started to pay back the first round of loans and my new set of loans. I am finally going to be free and clear next month. I take pride that I did not take a handout. Granted I didn’t get my doctorate in nursing , there is nothing more dangerous than a nurse with a clipboard. A friend of mine from college was just cheering the other day that she got a letter that the last of her student debt was forgiven. I told her "your welcome." and we got in a huge argument over the politics of all this. It's sooooo hard to pay back the loans, she said. She and I went to the same school and got the exact same degree. I worked full time and did tons of side hustles through college. So the amount of loans I took was less than half of what she took. When I had extra scratch, i put it toward my loans. I was free of that debt within three years of graduating. She hadn't budged her debt in 15 years, always making the minimum payment. I worked hard to be able to borrow less and pay back more, faster while she used her loan money for all kinds of stupid sh*t and kept pushing the debt on down the line. So my reward for working hard and being intelligent with the student loan system is that I now get to pay off the loans for people who were lazy and abused that system. Cool.

Well, what he effectively told the education and loan systems is that you’re going to have to raise all your prices so the monthly bill is too high for them to pay so the person can’t get their student loans forgiven. Because Joe knows nothing about economics, he’s basically given schools a great reason to raise tuition prices. Because we all know that when a financial institution is faced with a problem like “debt forgiveness if somebody pays the minimum,” they have to figure out a way to raise that minimum price or lose money. Financial institutions don’t like losing money. Even if he wins and the obligatory “I couldn’t do it” comes, it STILL gives institutions reason to raise prices. I think this is further way to make things worse and make that push toward “Muh socialism”

Ok.. but the conversation was never about bailing out businesses using taxpayer money. I do agree, the government should not be allowed to give money without receiving equitable services or products in return; And the government should be forbidden from handing money out to foreign nations as well, or even arms or other things; charity should be from the people themselves, IF they choose to partake; not the government deciding upon charity and then taking it out of the pockets of taxpayers.. But then I also think that there should be term limits for Congress and all other elected officials; that the government should be downsized until it gets spending under control, and till Congress can produce a workable budget that is balanced before it ever can get passed. but then I also think most politicians, on both sides, are indeed nothing more than career criminals, including joe biden, the resident puppet.

@@cgraham6 I've seen a lot of people with graduate degrees claiming they've been making payments on their loans yet still manage to have a bigger balance than when they began. As far as I know, that can only really happen if you're not paying enough to cover interest and/or you go into forbearance. Which you'd think someone smart enough to make it through all that education would understand. Or she understands and just thinks it isn't fair. My husband and I paid our own way through college by working and going to local colleges, not private colleges. We also got some scholarships, and we had to work VERY hard to get and keep those scholarships(lest some think it was tons of money, I got $2500/semester for 3 semesters). My scholarship monies had to pay for tuition, dorm, books and any incidentals. I still had to work even with the scholarship. Now, after we worked, did what was right(she did NOT), and worked and paid for our college education, we have to go and pay for her education now, too? Is Biden going to forgive our car loans? That's A LOT less than her school loans. How about when I got injured in the job and the state I lived in only paid for 2 years of worker's comp, but I was not allowed to work for 5 years, so I had 3 years with no income. I had to live off my credit cards. I got no help from the government, even though I have been unable to return to work because of the severity of my injury, as well as other health issues I've now developed(I was too young and too well educated 🙄). Well Biden pay me back for the amount I had to put on my credit cards, then pay off? I think it's embarrassing this woman did a press conference and bragged about being a dead beat free-loader. I wouldn't want to show my face. It's also highly insulting that she gets away with running up tons of debt and the rest of us have to pay for it! All this while many in the middle class are struggling to pay mortgage/rent, car payments, put food on the table and pay for about medical/dental issues that have. Just shameful!
