How do you make a Batman? Just take Zorro and add Spider-Man. Overthinking It subjects the popular culture to a level of scrutiny it probably doesn't deserve. www.overthinkingit.com/

Batman is the world's greatest detective. It's his tagline and everything, you need a fifth slot for genius.

Black Widow also had trauma (Soviet brainwashing), and while her tech might not be as advanced as Iron Man's suit or some of Batman's gadgets, she does use spy gadgets and her Black Widow's Bite bracers.

Green Lanterns actually do require extensive training to make the best use of their rings tho. Difference between an untrained person picking up a rocket launcher versus someone who can make that rocket bend around impossible angles to hit it's target.

Matt, love the video...but Black Panther DID have trauma. His dad got killed when he was a kid and he trained to avenge his death.

It’s exactly why Superman always falls short of being most people favorite.. despite the fact that he can do pretty much anything.. he doesn’t have major trauma and he didn’t train to the extent of most superheroes.. also he’s not rich.. and has no technology.. I always knew he was different than the rest but I never knew why.. he’s not bad.. just vanilla

For the record, outside of internet circle jerks in the west, Superman is actually still more popular and iconic than Bats even if far less people have actually seen anything with Superman in it. The Popeye effect in full swing. Also, your post wreaks of the relatability fallacy.

I would actually argue that it's because people, being people, prefer the primary virtue of Batman more than the primary virtue of Superman. Fortitude over Temperance.

Where’s Superman? You’ve missed the most important aspect: a sense that injustice needs to be addressed.

Don't some (maybe even a lot) of X-Men lack all four? Although Professor Xavier's School for the Gifted would be somewhere that they began to train/control their powers.

Hey, great idea, but you missed ethics, my friend. The discipline to not kill anyone (be it the joker) deliberately takes a lot of intellectual effort and a lot of hurt, is what I anticipate. Ethics is the gray area that I feel batman has figured out right. How though? It's because of Joker - the bad guy. Bruce sees himself in the joker and sees the hurt joker experiences. Don't believe me but ask this to the writers of the same: the creators of Batman and the Joker probably came to the conclusion that Batman should not just be shown as he can do whatever he wants (aka Free Will) and chooses to do good so that anyone else doesn't have to experience the Pain that He experiences. It took all those writers to create the symbol that Batman is, they're the real heroes because they did not shy away from the effort it takes to understand the seemingly darker areas of knowledge that philosophy addresses.

This is very cool! I love graphic representations of data. I feel compelled to point out that there was a fair amount of technology involved in the Hulk's origin too, however. Someone with more complete knowledge than I possess could probably think of a character from the roaring-rampage-of-revenge genre to slot in there.
