The Sunnah Dress: Is it 'religious' for Muslims to dress like the Prophet (SAW) ~ Dr. Yasir Qadhi

Watch the complete talk on Islamic Reform here: • Islamic Reform - Destr...
The common clothing of our Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) that is known to the vast majority of Muslims is that our Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) wore a turban, sheep-wool thawb, and leather slippers/shoes. At times, he would wear a two-garment dress (similar to the ihram of the pilgrims).
Some Muslims believe that it is a requirement of religiosity to dress in a similar manner. While these intentions might be praiseworthy, what proponents of this opinion fail to realize is that the opponents of Islam, such as Abu Jahl also wore the same type of clothing! In fact, every man in Arabia wore similar styles.
Obviously the pagan Arabs and the enemies of the Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) were not trying to "follow" the Sunnah by dressing exactly the same as our Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam).
So the question arises, then, as to what the real Sunnah method of dressing is.
Join Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi in this video clip were he revives the true method of dressing the like the Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam), and following the Sunnah the way our Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) wanted us to follow his Sunnah!
A MUST watch video for every Muslim who loves to follow the Sunnah!!

JazaakAllahu khayr beloved sheikh & teacher Yasir Qadhi. I respect your knowledge and professionalism. I understand the points raised and reasoning & Ijtihad behind these points. I (personally) have some questions about some of the points with following comment(s); that we should be overtly-happy to express the sunnah 'clothes' because it was the way our Nabi SalAllahu alayhi wassalam did dress. Even if they laugh at us or those around us may think its ajeeb to contemporary times. Wallahu a'alam. jazaakAllahu khayr. I wish to express that (as a revert 20 years)-you are very inspiring ma Shaa Allah. wa BarakAllahu feek Ar. Ibrahim Conlon, Australia

Clothing is more than history, the traditional clothing is about respect, modesty confort and simplicity. It's not compulsory to wear them but you are missing Something precious if you are not.

Tomorrow is Eid in India, I have a nice dress which I can wear on the day of Eid but I didn't wanted to wear it. I wanted to wear the Kurta Salwar, which is a tradition and also considered a sign of piety. I was mad at my father that he didn't bought me Kurta Salwar. But after this lecture I realized my mistake. My intentions weren't pure. May Allah forgive me and guide me to the right path.

If you visit Turkey or Bosnia you will see they don't wear the thawb or kamees because its not their culture, the sign of a Muslim man is the beard and modesty and some say wearing the topi as well, regardless its not a big deal. If someone wants to wear a thawb or kamees because he feels it is his identity of a Muslim then that's okay, if you read the history of the Muslims of Spain they had a distinct clothing distinguishing them from the Christians and this is where the Spanish Inquisition targeted the Muslims by banning their distinct clothing that identified themselves as Muslims so if we live in the west where we have the freedom to wear whatever we want, then why not.

I like the way he defines and explains issues. It is very hard for those scholars who do not live in the west ,to understand it. I like sunnah but it should vary from culture to culture, society to society, especially in the west. Do not be too much strict on the sunnah to implement them on your kids in the west. Use Hekmat of Allah , and Allah will guide them to the right path.

The point is to distinguish yourself as a Muslim and to keep imitation of the Kufaar to a bare minimum.

Very beautiful talk. Many people criticize those who wear shirts yet they themselves don't wear the Saub that the prophet (SAW) used to wear. Clothing is a cultural thing, it's not what people imagined for themselves (In order to differentiate from other people).

Rasoolullah sallalahu alayhi wasallam came to be followed! Rasoolullah sallalahu alayhi wasallam didn't come as a follower! He wore what he did because he did so! Not to follow norms and cultures and familiarities. So we should imitate him in every way! Why are we adopting the suit and tie which was always worn by the kufaar? Let's not dilute Islam because of our own personalised perspectives. Allah grants hidayah to whom so he pleases. We should always be well distinguished from the kufar.
