The Sun is Also a Warrior by Leslie Fish (Cover)
Музыка
Here is my cover of a song from Leslie Fish's excellent 2012 album, Avalon is Risen. Here is the version from the album:
• The Sun Is Also A Warr...
You can get the album here:

The publisher also has the complete booklet that goes with the album here:

In honour of this being a Filk song, I have diverged from my usual acoustic-only arrangements and added some guitar effects to the Mandolin track.

What an adorable cover. I listen to the origional often and always felt alone in it because no one else I know listens to Leslie Fish. So it was just me. This cover makes it more real as proof that there are others who listen to and love this song. Thanks. 👍
This is a fantastic rendition. While I equally enjoy Leslie Fish's original, I think the somewhat more melancholic tone really fits the song.

Thanks Bruce, someone recently made a good lyric video with Leslie's original recording.

Agreed
I always thought there should be different emotions to each chorus. Start out with epic defiance. Switch to hope and joy when the god banishes war. Switch to pain and sorrow when he realizes the cost of peace. Switch to powerful and frantic when the god brings war back. Switch to gentle comfort when they rebuild. It's a really good story that covers the full range of emotions. From the ideal optimism of youth, the world smacks you the realization that everything you wanted turned out to be a disaster, things devolve into devastation and ends with the determination and hope to rebuild.

Sounds like this needs to be a staged play.
Really well done. It's a beautiful song and your version adds your own touch. This song inspired me to write my own music, that's how powerful it is.

@@DanielKellyFolkMusicsir I was wondering if you could do a cover for no quarter. It’s a song for honor Harrington your voice would be perfect for a male ver.

Beautiful! Would you happen to have guitar tabs for this or be able to direct me to where I can find them? In any case, you did a lovely cover. Take care, and I look forward to hearing more!

Hi Nirvana, I couldn't find any published tabs for this when I went looking, the lyrics are available on the liner-notes from Leslie's Album 'Avalon is Risen'. Here is what I worked out, it may be nothing like what Leslie plays: [Am]Two men [G]walked on the [C]beach [G]in the [Am]sun. [C]One left [G]footprints, the other left [Am]none. [Am]One was a [G]man who no man [Am]obeys; [Am]The other a [A]god from the [C]an[G]cient [Am]days. [Am]The sun is [G]also a [Am]warrior. [Am]Knowledge can [C]also [D]destroy. [Am]Nor can the kindest [C]will, [Am]Preserve you from the [G]kill. [Am]Not all of [G]wisdom brings [Am]joy.

Thanks for listening Luna, from memory I added some effects to the mandolin track.
Any chance of a more upbeat version of this as well? Something as if sung to Apollo or Helios?

The "god from the ancient days" originally was Apollo!
Flattens the tune a bit, but still a lovely cover.

As you have probably picked up, my KZread recordings are mostly rough sketches, sometimes done within 30 minutes of hearing a song for the first time. Definitely more passion than polish.
