As a kid I lived in the county of Rutland (GB). The village cricket ground was just across the field from my parents house...so when there was a cricket match there I always went and watched.Around 4.30 pm all the cricketers went down to the village hall for tea...where my mother and a few othere ladys helped...after tea the cricketers would go back to the cricket field to finish the match. After the match had ended all the men went down to the local pub...the george and draggon...either to drown their sorrows or celerbrate the win.. Happy days back in the 1950´s.
The last shot, of a kid running out of an alley to deliver the ball was what got me. I was that boy emerging out of a gulley in Penyard or Caepantywyll in Merthyr in 1963. Cricket and the Beatles - was I spoiled!

I love cricket so much
Shame we don't get to see such beautiful documentaries these days.
By Jove, the sweetest sound I ever heard. Quintessential Englishness at its best. This is my idea of time well-spent! And I could watch for hours and be enthralled, if not being asked to play myself.
"...That grand old gentleman who kept his patients waiting while he filled up wisdom with his records".....loved the description of the greatest amateur to have played the game....the good old Dr WG Grace....strange indeed to think even some shrewd doctor played the game !

Great documentary!
snatches of few lines that appealed to me no end..👇 @2.22 "Strenous alliance between devious minds and skilled muscles is the Art of cricket !" @9.08 .. " This is a very humanising game, a cure for intellectuals and Snobs. A game that appeals to the Patriotism and Pride. but which is at the same time is eminently unselfish . I will bowl from this end and you can have which end you like! What brilliant lines.! The whole documentary is beautifully well compiled ,edited wonderfully to match the commentary ,gnaws and tears@ the heart of a Cricket tragic with undiluted nectar like commentary. The acute observations ,the remarkable voice and of course the soul stirring sad strains of the Violin strings plucked ever so achingly as a season draws to a close;( "The heavy roller awaits another dawn" What an apt, finishing line.Pure.unalloyed GOLD !❤️ Compulsive watch and worthy of deep reflection. Top most draw stuff! 💐
What a great documentary. Missing this cricket .

From a pastoral English summer pass time to a vehicle of British imperial assimilation to a medium of influence for a rising power. No other sport has carried so many burdens. Long may this summer game endure.
Great.
Fabulous game
Nice to see Worcestershire's ground on a documentary.
how lovely, thank you
Superb! Thank you for sharing... Cheers!
Brilliant- thank you :)
8:10 I saw Tom Graveney. Still wondering why so often he was dropped from England Test team .
Was the first shot of New Road flooding for the umpteenth time?
Where did you get this from???
Brilliant, though how 2 miserable sods could vote it down is beyond me.
