The strict male guardianship laws controlling Saudi women | What's Going On?

Saudi teenager Rahaf Alqunun captured the world's attention when she fled from her family in Kuwait, fearing she would be harmed or killed by her family for renouncing Islam.
She lived in a country where she was under the control of her father in a strict male guardianship system - needing permission to work, marry and travel.
Human rights groups have called for the system to be abolished, saying it can trap women and girls as prisoners of abusive families.
