I laughed my ass off when they called him just to fix it for their 6 pack of beer. That was a dumb reason for that character to be there. Me and my buddy started doing some Mystery Science Theater because we were alone in the theater. Also I don't know about you,but if I heard people singing lullabies outside my window and hear people moving around outside the house, the last thing I'm going to do is turn on loud music, smoke a joint, and take a shower. Dumb characters.

Brutal?? Laughs in Damien Leone. Solid, honest review. I'm tired of hearing, "Wait til the second and third movies!" It's a justification for mediocrity and capitalism. I wasn't a huge fan of the first The Strangers, but Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman woke up and went to work that day. These two actors and Mr. Harlin just hit snooze.

Kali and Jason, appreciate your comments on the overwrought cliches of rural people in horror films, i.e. loogie spittin’, meat eatin’, hostile country folk that all marry as teenagers, most likely to a cousin. A film that actually does that well is Deliverance, where you can feel the underlying tension between the weekend warriors and the townsfolk that culminates into the terror of THAT scene. Yes, it has the tropes we’re talking about, but I think it doesn’t feel heavy-handed or unintentionally comedic like it does with this reboot. The filmmakers could have done some interesting commentary on rural gentrification , but they just made the original practically beat for beat.

I definitely think the director wanted to take this on a fresh approach, however, poorly executed in the first entry to the trilogy. I do think the directors main focus was movies 2 & 3, the first movie felt like it was just put together off of footage they had from filming as they need to redo the first one in order to make the second and third any different. It wasn't a horrible movie, could it have been better following the original and Prey at Night? Absolutely- But I am still hopefully the second installment will be a lot better, and the third, maybe even better. This feels like a test. The Strangers franchise has been great at releasing thoughtful movies, this first one, however, didn't seem too thoughtful.

Glad I’m not crazy. A few reviews have come out in praise of this film and I can’t for the life of me understand why. It’s unbelievable that they tried to merge the tension of the first and expand the scope like the second yet somehow only offer the worst from both. It should be a sin to make such an easy home run into something so boring. If a film isn’t scary, I’ll give it a pass in exchange for great kills and vice versa, but this offers neither. And it doesn’t help that almost nothing matters. The only thing that changes if he doesn’t have asthma is she isn’t left alone in the house to get us a couple lame jump scares before the movie really starts. Rolled ankle? Amounts to nothing. Random nail in the sand? only an issue for the 20 seconds under the floor. Murdering the owner? Means nothing, changes none of the characters actions or ugh. Nothing changes if any of this isn’t written into the film. It also bothers me that the entire film progresses solely on poor decisions that don’t make any sense, which I can give some room for horror films but not when it’s every single cliche’ that’s ever existed from city folks in the small town, tripping in the woods, disappearing in the reflection/when the door opens etc. Anyway, I hated it too 😂

I cannot stand this immediate trilogy situation with horror movies anymore. It's so unnecessary. Even if a director has a 3 movie plan, whatever happened to the element of surprise? I was so annoyed when they announced Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends together (and who was signed to both films), because it immediately told me who I didn't need to worry about dying and took every ounce of tension out of the experience. For them to continue it with The Exorcist and now The Strangers... Hollywood is not listening to what audiences actually want and I'm over it.
