The strange tale of the man killed by his own gravestone | His stone tells you how
Фильм және анимация
How could someone be killed by their own headstone? Sounds impossible right? But it's true, and his headstone tells you how.

Thanks Dan for another great walk .That one was sad ,with all the men who lost their lives in the mines 😢 ❤️🇨🇦
It’s the employers’ fault for “killing off” the young man 😢 May Roberts’ innocent soul, Rest In Peace
Such a lovely cemetery! That one grave with the daffodils was so pretty! We had snow last night here in Iowa! 🤣
RIP Robert ❤
Another great video Dan. The grave with the flowers were real pretty. Someone's taking care of it. That was so sad about Robert. Thanks again for another great video. Love from Georgia USA

I really enjoyed this one…however…I was sad that you didn’t allow us to read the full inscription on the man’s stone (the one that was killed by his headstone)…It was a poem that started out,”alas…” and I feel it was pertinent to the whole journey through the courtyard…It would have been an excellent way to end the video. Anyway, I do love watching your walks! Good day❤️

The inscription reads "Alas how frail this brittle clay Though formed with matchless art Death waits in ambush for his prey And none escapes his dart A youthful Frolic promted on Whilst the grim Tyrant gave The mortal stroke by this same stone That marks my early grave"

I agree Lynn….have asked Dan to linger a little bit longer so we get chance to read, but think he feels we can rewind the video and pause. He does get about the Country and takes us to interesting places, but often says it’s too hard to read, which is a shame. Have suggested he keeps a torch handy or uses the torch on his mobile as we do, - shine across from the side and you can see much better, but guess time is against him, which is sad as there was so much interesting history /tragedy to read about in this one church yard. Best wishes to you. 🙋♀️🥰💐

Just pause the video Lynn, people read at different speeds so it’s not productive to linger too long on one inscription for too long when you have a lot of ground to cover.

@@nemesis2264 The last two lines of this poem could not have been written for a more worthy stone, lol.
Nice walk! Love the calming effect of your walks. Thank you.
Thank you for guiding me in stone history tour - and in amazing good weather. That is interesting story of George and what joy being young can make one do?! Wondering what you look like? As your voice comes over so clear and safe and learned - ty
Excellent video. I love learning the history of cemeteries I hope to visit someday.
Thank's Dan, old cemeteries are fascinating and mysterious to me! Greetings from the Czech Republic
Thanks for the amazing walk today. I’m glad that the season change will make it easier for you. I find the inscriptions so very interesting. Can’t thank you enough for sharing with us. You’re appreciated, 👏😊🇨🇦
Thank you Dan for another great cemetery tour. I hope you are well.
Great walk Dan. Darfield church yard was a good place to go conkering when we were kids. By the way you're correct Wombwell is pronounced Wum well by us locals 😊
9:45 i looked up the Ardsley station railway collision. it references to the Stairfoot railway station collision, Ardsley station was the name of the older station that went out of use just prior to 1870 15 passengers where killed and 59 passengers where injured when a goods train separated and the rear section of the goods train rolled down the line hitting a stationary passenger train
You just know when ol' Rob got to the afterlife, someone asked how he died and everyone in hearing range laughed their @$$es off when he told 'em. 😆
Hi Dan, just another Yank here from the States, love to watch your videos, especially the above ground crypts and viewing the interesting things inside, and all the old tombs and interesting architecture in the ancient grave yards.
1:40 literally .. pushing up daffodils
I looked up the collier disaster. Horrible!! My family is from West Virginia and coal was king. Many disasters there as mining is so dangerous.
What a beautiful walk through this graveyard. The stones are so beautifully carved. I can see most of the elaborate ones are slate. They last forever and they take carving just beautifully 😊
I love your videos, I watch them daily. I love the atmosphere, your voice, the wind in the background and the sound of peaceful silence. You are extremely lucky to be able to move around English cemeteries. For me, these are the most beautiful cemeteries ever. In our country, old graves like this were destroyed to make way for new ones, which do not have decorative writing or decorations. I really envy your walks.🖤💀
The mine lift tragedy sounded utterly dreadful, the poor guys. What a horrible way to go. Rest peacefully all 💙
Thanks for another most interesting dead good walk Dan. I absolutely love the domestic history written on these graves such as the name of the house or area & cause of death. I often go & look them up on google maps & frequently find that some of the homes still exist, fascinating glimpse into the past. Have a good Easter Dan 💐
I absolutely love your videos! They are all so calming, educational, beautiful greenery, historic, you have an amazing calm voice! Fantastic You Tuber for sure!
Thanks Dan! Lovely walk and beautiful video! Really nice light and camera work! 🩵
How interesting. I really enjoyed your video. (I tried to join but I don’t know how) Lots of young people died before their time. The daffodils were pretty.
Hi Dan what a beautiful graveyard ,stunningly eerie 😊 wow killed by your own gravestone goodness 😮
Ayup again fella. Im from Barnsley, yes terrible disaster that we learn about. (Wumwell).. Royston graveyard big ,would love to know of any interesting facts if any.

Plenty of Green, green grass over here, though I imagine it's also a lot wetter too! When do your lawns begin to grow? Most of us are only now bringing out the mowers for the first cuts after the winter (weather permitting of course 😁) 🇬🇧
What a beautiful spring day and beautiful graveyard as well 👍 very charming indeed 👍👍👍
You should go have a look at st chads church kirkby knowsley. The church is stunning but the graves more so to the rear are in disrepair. Also the church has the oldest font in Europe dating back the the viking ago. And is said to have a witch buried there
Hi Dan, its pronounced Wumwell, great to see you round Darfield, hope you visit Wombwell cemetery as there is a few famous folks buried there, keep up the great trips :)
Thank you Dan for another great walk have a great day sir.

I still don't understand the sequence of events with the stone that ended up killing him. Help. Thx.
Awesome as always
At 9.53 collision has been misspelt.
Ty enjoyed it very much
Thank you.
I enjoyed this ❤️💪spring is here!❤
The Wyatt stone at about nine minutes in...was that the stone of TWO dead wives of the same man, or did I misread it?
Just to let you no my grandad worked on the rail way as a shunter on arpely station it made my hair stand on end as I remembered my grandad tell me a story of a young man getting crushed between two trains xx my be it’s the same man xx 😘 xx
Lovely stones !
Just be careful in high winds or leaning on something… it wouldn’t be much fun getting spattered
I always like to imagine what people were wearing to the funerals of these people…
Awesome!!! New sub here. Wish my videos were half as good. Can't wait to watch your other ones!

What a sad, tragic story of a young man who took his own life and for what? I had two siblings who both died of the same reason. They did many prescription drugs from 3 or 4 different doctors. Honestly, I tried so hard to help them, but they didn’t want to listen. My brother’s heart was so enlarged the corner said his heart exploded. My sister took her own life with pain pills. It discussed me! Sorry 😞 I went on like that, but I guess I am not over it Have a great week.👍🏻 😠

Are you talking about the man who was working on a grave stone when it fell on top of it was a accident he didn't take his own life
Some kind of graveyard spirit, named Derek, reminded you of yourself, when you strolled there. For good, it needs to put a candle for the repose (for the rest) of Derek, and along with Robert. In a church or a chapel.😎
Catching up today
Dan, Thank You! It was beautiful yet hilly. You must have had a bit of a trek!😂
I was buried there in 1849 and again in 1921, I'm to be cremated next time, fingers crossed, that will this time
I was wondering, since spring is coming, I was wondering if you have ticks over in the UK?
