I went to their show in Phoenix and the most amazing thing is seeing a band reunite that I never thought I’d see. There are very few bands now that have a mystique and brand like they do. It was great to see them all on stage getting along, putting their differences aside and giving back to their generations of fans. I went with my 16 year old daughter who is a huge fan so it was great to bond over such awesome music!

@@southcountydave I was at the Phoenix show as well. I didn’t have high expectations even though I’m a huge fan. I saw Danzig about 10 years ago and it was awful. He could barely make it through a song without being completely winded. To my huge surprise they absolutely killed it!! I don’t think I have ever seen Danzig in better spirits either. Definitely one of my top shows ever.

My dirty hood brother was dating a punk girl in 1985 when I was 12. I was already skateboarding and listening to the Clash. She loaned me a bunch of records to listen to and the Misfits blew me away! I've been a huge fan ever since. I even named my business after one of their songs. I have 5 original print singles that my mom's friend gave me. Her son died in Grenada and when she saw me wearing a Misfits shirt, she gave me her sons entire record collection.

@@kaomatic nope it's not, Static Age was recorded in 78 after the Misfits after Danzig sold Blank Records(the record label he started and released the first Misfits 7" cough cool on in 77) one of the majors wanted to use the name Blank records for their new wave bands so they traded the name for 30 or so hours of recording time at one of their studios. They recorded Static Age with the Intent of releasing it as a full album. They ended up not having enough money to release the album(Static Age definitely would be regarded as a classic if it came out in 78 and didn't have to wait til 97 to be released in full) instead of putting out a full album they released 2 7" in 78..The Bullet 7" and the Teenagers from Mars 7". Both classics. After that they got Bobby Steele on guitar and released the Night of the living dead 7"(where eagles dare and night of the living dead are on it) then they released the horror business 7" shortly after which is a total classic aswell. One interesting aspect to me is that The Misfits has the sound and DIY-attitude of the Punk-scene, but their aesthetic, imagery and horror-themed lyrics lean more towards the metal-scene. Despite this they seem to be loved by most punks, even though they don't "stand for something" like many of the punk subgenres strive to do, such as Hardcore, straight edge, anarcho punk etc.

Freaking love this band since i was a teenager. I thought nothing could ever come close to the Ramones in terms of a punk band also being insanely melodic and addicting, but the first time i heart Walk Among Us i was blown away. Both bands are with me ever since. I never felt many "true punks" talked about it though, but i might be wrong. Most of the time i heard people talk about it, they were metalheads or people who enjoyed rock overrall.

Amazing band. Seen em like 7 times (twice with Danzig). They hit me deep when I discovered them late 80s (a friends tape of Misfits/Collection I). A nerdy kid, I was already into late 70s punk (Ramones, Heartbreakers, Pistols, etc) and also nostalgic horror, sci fi, and b-movies as well as comics. So a perfect fit for my taste. In those pre-internet days they were super mysterious too. And Glenn’s songwriting (and voice) from ‘77 all the way to like ‘94 (Samhain and early Danzig included) was pretty untouchable. Agree they had great DIY skills, and also general creativity and vision. Plus, they’re just cool (if you’re a geek).

I discovered Misfits through Metallica... like a lot of others. I've grown to appreciate every creative venture of Glenn's. I think the first four Danzig albums are his crowning achievement, but... The Misfits are a very, very close second. I started with the Collection I cassette, next onto Walk Among Us, Earth AD, then everything I could get my hands on. Oddly enough the song that started my journey, "Last Caress", was one of the last I found. In the meantime I fell in fucking love with their version of punk. I don't consider them straightforward punk... they're something completely different altogether. Its the same style, aggression and production quality of punk, but with melody, insanely good vocals, original lyrical content and imagery. Pretty much the same thing Rob Zombie did with metal. Its definitely metal... just not like anything you've seen or heard before. Misfits are the same with punk... when you really break it down, they share a moment in time and sound with punk and thats about it. Even though the two would probably never admit it, you can't have The Misfits without Glenn AND Jerry. They proved this when they replaced him. Sure it sounded similar, but it wasn't the same. Same with Glenn... he went onto make some fucking amazing music. From Samhain, to all eras of Danzig, etc etc... He never recreated that frenzied energy that Misfits had. Wanna hook someone on Misfits? Play em the Walk Among Us version of 20 Eyes... or Angelfuck, Skulls, American Nightmare (I seriously could keep going). I love Sex Pistols, Discharge, Black Flag, Ramones... but Misfits will always be the band that actually fucking dared to take it somewhere different with no boundaries.

PS - now that i've watched the video, i can say "well done." thanks for this one.. The Misfits occupy a special place in my heart. Having grown up two towns over from Lodi, i kinda feel like their music was fundamentally integral to developing a sense of punk rock aesthetics for a young person in 80's/90's North Jersey. My older brother played their music regularly in the house as i was growing up, so by the time i was 7 or 8 years old, circa '87, i was already a fan of a bunch of songs off of "Walk Among Us" and truly believed everyone knew who the Misfits were and what their logo looked like, etc.. It wouldn't be until years later that i would come to understand that i had a very unusual and privileged upbringing under the tutelage of an older brother who exposed me to shit like the Misfits, Slayer, Run DMC, Public Enemy, etc., all by the end of the 1980's.. so by the time i was a teen in mid-90s, i was already fluent in the language of weird music and subcultures.. This all helped make my transition into "hardcore kid" feel as natural as breathing. At any rate, The Misfits are one of a very small number of bands from my youth that i'll still listen to today, and it doesn't feel like a naked exercise of nostalgia.. i genuinely still love a lot of these songs and believe they've aged fairly well.

Nailed it - Misfits are rock branding at its best. They arguably made more money overtime from merch sales than music or touring ever could do for them. Most people don't like their music - but have seen the logo, wear the tshirt, or just know what that skull is representing. To have just 2 albums back in the early 80s - but have brand sustainability 30 years later that's identifiable - that's amazing. Never cared for their music - but their influence is certainly incredible sonically and visually.

Dude, I disagree and agree strongly with you so much, it’s a roller coaster over here with this channel. That being said, I think you hit the nail on the head with this very well done and factually accurate take on the Misfits. AND THANK YOU SO MUCH for acknowledging how successful, influential, and ever present this band is and has been despite the rocky history between Glenn and Jerry. I’m so tired of hearing about how great the sex pistols were. For example, they had one album that was moderately good and then and it was the attitude that was popular until Sid died and that’s kind of it. The misfits went from weird art-house project to easily one of the heaviest bands in the world (at the time) in the span of what, 6 years? Plus all the material was good! I’m a scene kid/ metal guy and until Earth A.D., I just had not heard a punk band pull off a hardcore album with these really solid vocals full of absolute mystery lyrics that sounded insane. Then I got to read the lyrics for albums like walk among us and the singles, and holy shit, absolute poetry, regardless if the songs were about prostitutes or killing and getting trophies for mommy, they were incredibly crafted and vibid! I went backwards, got into Danzig in 1988 (whom I love, so I guess I’m one of those Danzig fans that doesn’t exist, right👊?) and went backwards and got into Samhain and eventually the Misfits, and yeah it was Metallica who informed me who Danzig was, so when I saw Mother on MTV in ‘88 (censored version), it as so dark and heavy without trying to be like a slayer or Kreator, I totally fell in love with Danzig’s style. Also love SAMHIAN !!!! Thanks for reading my book folks!

Then a high school history teacher made me listen to the Danzig era songs and slowly I became more partial to that era of The Misfits. I really don't know why, I just seem to have more fun with those songs. And I agree that the lower quality production value of those songs give them a certain charisma and enchantment when compared to the the Graves era songs. It's kinda like less is more. Anyway, in summary, I do like Graves era but believe Danzig era is superior. Also Danzig era got me into AFI, which is pretty fucking cool too.

I'm not a huge punk fan but I find your videos edifying on some level and have enjoyed most. This one was the best.

I was in on Misfits from the mid 80s, kinda like Stranger Things era haha. I had checkered Vans, a skateboard full of stickers, cutoff jeans, a bunch of Misfits (and other bands/brands) tee shirts, an oversized Stüssy hat, and a brand new Sony Walkman which was a cool thing to have at the time. I listened to everything loud, I grinded hard, I fell hard, and I loved every minute of it 🤘🏼🤘🏼
