Such a well done analysis, both this and the Halo video. Going to get around to watching your other videos now because damn you're good.

i'm 5 minute into the video so this might be premature to say: as a dude that seeks narrative as much as gameplay i have to say that Eternal really improved on the story delivery. It was hard for me to complete DOOM (2016), i was really burnt out by the lack of narrative. (if i wanted to read a codex i'd be reading a book)

Same! I prefer Doom Eternal too and that's the goal here: tell the narrative with gameplay because as it turns out, gameplay says a lot about character. Now it's just a matter of distilling that into an actionable dramatic arc for developers to use.

This video, and the rest of your channel, is the based antithesis to all the soy fueled video essays out there that say a whole lot of nothing. Glad I found your channel man.

That's one of my goals. I may be a screenwriter now, but I spend three years on construction sites across the globe as an automation technician to earn enough money for film school. I got a completely different outlook on what a story is and it is aligned with classic storytelling. Unfortunately, it doesn't vibe with the current corporate environment in the creative industry. Hence why I left my old job, and in hindsight, it's something I should've done years ago.

KZreads algorithm and home page has been absolute shit recently, full of videos I've never come close to being interested in no matter how many times I hit not interested This, however, I am interested in. Saw the halo vid first and I'm going to work my way backwards.

​@@daeamiralisthat's gonna be a constant for sure. It's just an important building block of screenwriting. But I'm finding ways how to utilize it for gameplay and how to extract it from gameplay for an adaptation. I think video game adaptations sucked for the most part because screenwriters don't realize gameplay says a lot about character.
