The Story of The Lamb - Timothy Keller [Sermon]

Tim Keller sermons via Gospel in Life: One of the major narrative plot lines of the Bible is the story of the lamb. It runs all through the Bible, beginning with the story of Abraham being asked to kill Isaac, continuing with the Passover in Egypt, and running through the Passover supper with Jesus and his disciples. In all of these cases a lamb is offered as a sacrifice for a debt. In John 1, John the Baptist tells us to "behold the lamb of God," meaning to soak in and understand who Jesus is and the debt he paid for us with his death.

I finally see, and it makes me sad and hopeful at the same time. There are things that I’ve done and ways that I’ve lived that create a debt that must be repaid. It is Jesus who steps in and pays it for me. He freely received the judgment I deserved. I still don’t know how to walk in freedom in this. What tragedy to continue sinning. But I also can’t live in fear of every wrong potential move? God, grant me wisdom here. Love you Father, RSA.

There is a wonderful old song that says "Turn you eyes upon Jesus - Look full in his wonderful face - and the things of earth will grow strangely - dim in the light of his glory and grace." The word translated as "behold" in the KJV means much more than to simply glance at something, as Pastor Keller explained. And if I am not living up to the love of Jesus in the way I treat others or the way I see the world then I am not really BEHOLDING the Lamb in the full sense of looking at HIM as the Way, the Truth and the Life. If I am BEHOLDING him then I will do the things that he says and worship him. Thank God for messages like this!

Excellent sermon. I really loved the connection of the lamb passages throughout the Bible, and how they all point to Jesus on the cross, and Jesus on the throne.

This kind of reminds me of the Trojan Wars because one soldier, usually the best, like Achilles and Hector, would fight rather than having everybody fight.

God ,The Lord and The Holy Spirit make up the Holy Trinity which in essence is one. So God allowed his Son to take the essence of man be sacrificed so that by eating his body we become sons and daughters in God and the blood is the new covenant of the New Testament that we commune in God and The Holy Spirit lives in us. My question is : why is it that Jesus Christ says eat of my body and drink of my blood we think it to be symbolic. There is no symbolism and if you were to take Holy Communion in some symbolic manner then you are symbolically been saved and symbolically reborn. We therefore symbolically love God and the Holy Spirit is also symbolic. There is no choice either something is or it is not. Free will is not symbolic, if you chose you commit with your whole being. Let your no be no and your yes be yes. Modern churches are blinded by the very truth they are preaching. Aspects of religion and traditions are rejected and yet the birth of modern Christianity is born in traditions. We live in a physical world just like Jesus Christ did and even Jesus told us to fast and pray that we may be physically pure and therefore we need to fast before Holly Communion so that we may be both spiritually and physically pure. Don’t have a symbolic ,rather be real. Do you honestly think that the concept of modern Christianity emphasizing sinful man is what God intended? This is not what God intended ,how depressing would that be. God’s purpose is that we love the truth and thereby love the essence of God. Jesus Christ paved the way of salvation in many traditions or why would he have been baptized , fasted or partaken in the Passover. There was no symbolism in those ceremonies. Everything is either real or symbolic and that’s your choice. The traditional Orthodox church is far more real and heavily criticized by the more modern churches. The crucifixion also takes far less significance than the resurrection. That’s because life in The Holy Spirit is more important than man seen as sin covered in snow. SALVATION IS AS REAL AND BOTH PHYSICAL AND SPIRITUAL AS YOU CHOOSE IT TO BE. Either you choose to be created by THE BREATH OF GOD or you choose to rather BE BORN IN ORIGINAL SIN.

Legalism May blind people. We all are born into this world as sinners. God breathed into sinless Adam. You cannot escape your ability to sin until Eternity. Regarding the Communion meal, we are not eating the actual Christ and drinking his literal blood. This is Catholicism. Communion does not save you. Your sins are already forgiven if you have accepted the Lords Passion and resurrection. It is a blessed reminder of his sacrifice.
