King is easily one of my favorite King of Fighters characters. She not only has a deeply involved story with the Kyokugen cast, and a relatable and genuine motivation to help her little brother, but she has one of the most unique takes on Muay Thai in fighting game history. When it comes to Muay Thai characters, King is portrayed as a character who has actually taken time to develop her own interpretation of Muay Thai. When it comes to other Muay Thai practitioners, their movements and application of techniques are rather conventional and traditional. King appears to follow the same path in design as she usually adopts a rather orthodox fighting stance in her games. Her arms are up close to her face with a light lead foot specialized for teeps. Her general repertoire of moves is also pretty traditional with a healthy amount of elbows, roundhouses, push kicks and knees. However, King's trademark moves are extremely acrobatic resembling kicks that'd be more at home in Tae Kwon Do or Tricking. And I actually think this is a pretty neat dynamic to her fighting style--that she's not exactly traditional. King may have began her career as a professional fighter with a strong foundation of Muay Thai, but her current style resembles that of a fighter who is constantly adapting and innovating new techniques from other styles. When I watch King fight, she gives me the same vibes as watching real Muay Thai champions like Lerdsila and Saenchai as both champions utilize techniques that are adapted from other styles or innovating existing traditional forms. She's about as acrobatic and stylish with her signature moves, and I genuinely appreciate that with her. King is not necessarily about tradition hence her position in the original Art of Fighting games where she masqueraded as a male fighter. King is about being unorthodox and creative, and I'm actually really glad that this dynamic persists into the core of her character, as well as her fighting style. Joe would criticize King for utilizing Muay Thai in such an unorthodox manner but to King it doesn't matter, she's all about winning a fight. And she recognizes that tradition isn't necessarily going to persist, you gotta be innovative to stay ahead.

@Matthew Herman I was about to disagree. But you might be correct. Sanji's fighting style is more rooted in Tae Kwon Do. And if I'm being honest, King has plenty of Tae Kwon Do kicks. So yeah, you're not wrong.

You remembered KOF 2000 AoF theme, Beauty and The Beast? Yeah she is beautiful and a beast as well. One of the best characters in KOF universe.

King is amongst my most favorite female fighting game characters ever. I, too, sometimes gravitate towards androgynous female characters. But, King is truly something special.

Robert and King fought on a stand still kicking contest even in Art of Fighting that was canon. Also I find it funny that Robert is in KOF XI in the Kyokugen Team ending and is an exclusive character for home consoles on the PS2, this could only mean his story in AOF3 might have happened in this timeline of KOF since that's one of the main plot of AOF3 why Robert traveled. As for King I'm still waiting for SNK vs Tekken so King and King can fight

King is my video game crush as my childhood crush when I was 9 and 10 in 1996 and 1997; from King Of Figthers 94 and 95. King is gorgeous, and Mai is pretty.

King even talks like a man in the original Japanese script. They fleshed her out very well.

She’s very intelligent too and keeps her hands up in front of her for faster blocking and countering.

I'm fascinated with all the work you put into these videos and all the lore behind each KOF character. Everyone is unique and has a unique backstory. Until I got into your videos, I didn't know how deep the roots of KOF/AOF/FF really were. Thank you for a job well done.

i think King has a lot of personality, more than most of the female cast. She is in my top 3 fav KOF females. And also she has great moves. I love her!

I love King. She is quite mesmerizing.Definitely my favorite KOF mainstay character overall. She even had me fooled for a man until I tried revisiting KOF 94 and 95 where her clothes gets torn off.

Despite I watched your videos since the beginning of this year I never commented on this great videos, great job and do mai story next.

I always thought she was the perfect combination of Robert Garcia and Kim Kaphwan.

I really do hope KoF XV has alternate costumes and King has her valentine outfit from KoF AllStar.

I'd still like the AoF fighters to be a bit older in KoF. Not their true ages, but maybe 8 years older than the Fatal Fury team. Not everybody has to be 18-24 or 50+. There should be more fighters in their early 30s besides Vanessa and Kim.

King my favorite female fighter in the kof series. She is always in my roster along side with K, Kyo & Iori

King is actually inspired by Cynthia rothrock, a very famous female action star in 80s hongkong movies. They shared the same hairstyle and specialized in kicking techniques.

You know, it's funny, because when I saw Lady Dragon, during her final fight with Richard Norton's character, and I noticed she was wearing a suit, I thought she looked just like King.

King IMO is the best waifu character of SNK simply because she one of the only known women to blush...and I'm a sucker for tough women that blush. I love her design in XIV especially the hair. I hate fighting her in XIII though. Her AI makes her spam Venom Strike more than Athena throws Psycho Balls.

King rocks. Love her moveset in all the KOF games. Since i never played a U.S. KOF game, i had no clue about her and Ryo being a item or that his father wants them together. Talk about some powerful children, a future KOF legacy game is going to be awesome. There are so many power couples who could have powerful offspring. Imagine if Kensou actually gets Athena. Or Terry settles down with Blue Mary. And and Mai. It goes on and on!

Played on the Neo Geo arcade cabinet when they were new. My main character for Art of fighting 2 was King. The difficulty was set at 8, I was one of the few that managed to beat the game on that difficulty. Important bit, it was on a 6 game arcade unit, that was set up at a train station close to my school. Where I live, there was no such thing as arcades. The closest thing to actual arcades like in Japan and America, was the yearly fair. That where you had stands with a lot of arcade machines, and other things like claw cranes.

King is one of my favourite characters to play. And, she's pretty good at damaging your health line with her long legs. Inno-fight!⭕ Double-fight! ⭕⭕

100 thanks for the introduction of a fighting style unknown to most if not half of the fans of this franchise, as all this time playing king thought she was using savate a.k.a french kick boxing thinking that the developers if not the fans confuse it with muay thai a.k.a thai boxing, in reality it was kun gek do a.k.a korean kick boxing which seems to use similar methods to savate. times like these i'm glad the gaming companies that have fighting game franchises are still experimenting with variations of combative arts when designing characters, that being said due to her bio don't you think it would make more sense if she was using savate?

I remember maining King in Capcom vs SNK 1 and 2, with free ratio she was a beast!!! Her voice actress in those games was amazing too!

Hey, ShoryuGame. Great vid once again. I must say, I am somewhat addicted to these KoF Lore videos. Only played through some of KoF 13 and just got myself KoF 14, so I only know so much. Mostly just a vague awareness of a very deep and rich history shared by a diverse multitude of fighters. It really is interesting to learn about all of them! But I actually have some questions I am hoping you may be able to answer, possibly even in a video: How did Mature and Vice come back, and what's their story? Could it be possible for anyone else to come back from the grave like that, like Orochi kinda did?

King is beloved by many! I wonder if her real name is something like Mary or Jeanne.

if her from France, the Martial Art she used most likely Savate, French boxing or French foot fighting

King and Mr.Big got me into KoF. I recognized them from Art of Fighting 2. Not a game that I cared about, but I know them. When I saw them in the first game I played in the arcade KoF 96, they were my picks. Suprisingly, King is still one of my better played characters in KoF till this day.

Just look at that, oh my my my, she produces flames with both feet at high volumes and velocity. So hot.

I just have to say this😛 Shoryu when making this vid: She is pretty cute😁 Shoryu now: I hate you King🤬 Gotta love this man and his comedy

I am surpriserose, and King is my favorite KoF hero.

Here's an anecdote no one asked for: The first KOF game I played was KOF 2002. Now I wonder why King didn't make it to the roster, but at that time I didn't even know she existed. So, the next KOF I played (I believe it was '97) I saw King on the Women Fighters Team and asked "Who is that?". Now that memory gives me so much embarrassment, ha ha! I don't play her often, but I do love King so much ♥ Thanks for the video!
