The Story of Dota 2

Ойындар

Defense of the Ancients - also known as DotA - was first introduced as a ‘mod’ for WarCraft III: Reign of Chaos back in 2002. Today it’s one of the biggest esports in the world and it still stands for everything it did back then. Because Dota is a game for a community looking to challenge themselves. It’s a game that’s captured the hearts and minds of competitors and turned them into champions. After all, it’s an esport that’s fueled by nothing except a pure, unadulterated love for a beautiful and at times unforgiving game.
This is its story.

I play this game called dota 2, the point of the game is simple. You have to destroy the enemies' base before they're able to teach you tagalog and indonesian.

Me too. 8 was never a fan of League of Legends despite how accessible it is, I gravitated back to DOTA because of it's intricacies and hype AF moments. LoL matches don't connect with me but DOTA ones do. And seeing just how far now the SEA region has flourished on DOTA instead of League, I feel more disillusioned about League's casual appeal. To hell with League of Legends, long live the true King MOBAs.

There is a reason why dota will always be the greatest game to be ever made. It was never made to monetize or gain money. The developers just poured there heart and soul in the game for the love of the game and nothing else. It was so ahead of its time as it created a community that provide feedback to the developers in order to orchestrate the balance game that you would never get sick of because of the unlimited combinations possible. Personally, I have made all of my real life friends playing dota in internet cafes in jordan. That place was the birthplace of so many amazing players and teams such as Yapzor, Mage and most notably Miracle-. I rarely play dota as I as so much older now that back in 2008, but I just want to say thank you to everyone that made this game possible. You have truly changed my life and the lives of many others. Thank You.

I've quickly got in love with the game, and I've been playing it ever since. Unfortunately, a few years ago he died in a car crash. Dota was a game that made our friendship even stronger, we loved the game and were eager to play some more when we got home after going out together. For me, Dota will always remember me of him.

DOTA is the hardest competitive game there is, from the draft, individual skills and mind games before and after each match. A game where you have the possibility of fighting 1v9 because everyone thinks you are the worst player. A game where you have been ridiculed and demoralized more than you'll ever hear in real life. A game that even after years of playing you are still in the "tutorial" phase just because of how complex and hard the game is. Our game is the hardest, our game is toxic, our spirits can be destroyed after a game, but we NEVER STOPPED playing and continue accepting the challenge DOTA brings. Because after shouting at your teammates for a misplay, you can still say Good game, well played to each other for not giving up to win what others might think an unwinnable game. Remember there is no surrender button in DOTA 2.

This was a really well-put video, one of you guys' best for sure. I've been playing games competitively for almost two decades, and am an RTS guy at heart. DotA, for a long time, for me, was just the War3 relaxing mod that was meant for people who didn't have the mechanics to play the real game. I failed to see, until long into the release of DotA 2 (which I played a lot, because it's fun), how very difficult and incredibly legit as an eSports it is. DotA is the ultimate team game, one of the most complex, content-filled and unforgiving games out there. It'll never make it as the most popular eSports (in terms of player base) because its learning curve is too steep, because barely anyone out there can truly see through the organized chaos that it is and because it's nigh-impossible to find the necessary connection with four other people in order to have a shot at being 'good'. As far as I'm concerned, DotA has reached the peak niche of eSports (if that makes any sense), along Brood War and Melee. Rare gems that are too intricate and/or mechanically difficult for their own good but will, thanks to the unshakable and everlasting passion of their communities, never truly die.

@VI There is no denying in that. But I don't see a fault in that. Dota never tried to be for the masses, it is for the dedicated, the ones that like to challenge themselves. It requires you to dive into it and rewards you with a fascination and beauty that no other online game could offer for now. Getting into the game is work, it is not fun and near impossible for casuals. But I love the complexity, the challenge, the tactic and the fact that I lesen new things in every game even after 1000 hours.

I have played a lot of both LoL and Dota (2, w3 engine was driving me crazy since 2002, was so disappointed even though my PC couldn't stand it with 64MB ram), but Dota will be always better because it is much more open to community. Less marketing bs than LoL, more REAL choices for players. Workshop, custom modes... Meantime LoL players wet their pants when RIOT mercifully let them play bonus mode for 3 days xD I just go to "Arcade" section and can choose from dozen of bonus modes all day every day.
