Bierce would definitely betrayed us. She made a deal with a demon and killed an innocent girl after all. But I don't think we will turn to Malak after that, he would hate us for helping her to be powerful. I do think we might join forces with the mysterious clever girl. If the theory that the girl is Doug's wife is correct,then this might become more interesting....

Unfortunately i think the most likely senario is that the clever girl met her doom in either the mannequin level or level 10.. shes a character that was added into the game very recently after all. (At least with a big role)

Possible endings theory: Ending 1: The Betrayal - we give the ring to Bierce and in turn she grows to be just as if not more powerful than Malek (spelling?) so she takes out Malek, says they were right to tell us not to trust her and condemns us to darkness, our punishment for the crimes we committed. Ending 2: Join Forces - we give the ring to Malek who gives Bierce her due for her contract before and subsequent punishment for going back on it. As a “reward” for our co-operation, Malek makes us one of his minions. Ending 3: The Sacrifice - we don’t give either of them the ring but learn of a way to save our wife and daughter by sacrificing ourself for them by using the ring. Time has reversed to where instead of the wife and child dying in the car crash, we do.

Malak told us in the game that he would make us a deal like he did with Bierce, we give him the ring, and he gives us our life back, but better. In exchange, Malak owns our soul, and with the ring gone, we would have no way of escaping him.

I think it would be great if we find out during your stays in the portals, Malak has been figuring you out. Seeing who exactly you are and why you're so persistent. Then the final level is Doug's wife and daughter. The ultimate "monsters" in his life. Either by a nightmare hallucination scenario or maybe Malak actually goes to the underworld and retrieves their souls.

Wait. What if instead of being chased by monsters in the final portal, Doug is forced to kill his wife and daughter that are hiding. He has to kill them to open up gates or the exit, maybe meaing he has to kill them several times. This, would make HIM the monster in the portal. It would definitly be a new take on these portal levels since you have to kill, and it would hit close to home for Doug. Maybe the obstacles being platforming and traps that can kill Doug so it isn't easy

@@Lucifronz Well it would if he was FORCED to, like I said, nightmare scenario. It seems that his daughter has been transformed somewhat, but more of a benevolent spirit for the time being. I have no doubt that Malak could find a way to twist the wifes and daughters souls into monsters that are out to kill Doug. The thing is however, Doug can't exactly kill them more so then just put them out of commission for a while. Since their in a realm of spirits, a body being destroyed doesn't mean much

I think we'll get three endings. One where we trust Bierce, one where we trust Malak, and the true ending is if we find the relic that E used and escape with it

At this point, if Bierce's doesn't betray us, that will be the true plotwist. They are making it so obvious, it's almost like they are trying to make us think that Bierce will be the final boss. This is were the secret level will come to place (they confirmed that there was planned a secret level that only can be unlock by getting all S ranks).

I certainly see this being a multi-ending game, what with it's many hidden secrets and all that. I figure that they'll likely be two or three main endings: Ending one, help Bierce, Ending two help Malak, and maybe a third option to help yourself. However, given this dark story and the idea that our protagonist is in Hell or Purgatory, I don't see any ending being a very "happy" one. My guess it the "best" ending will require you to find all secrets in the levels, then meet the mysterious E. I agree with SuperHorrorBro that she's likely Doug's wife. Though I don't think the game will allow Doug to resurrect her and his daughter, I do think at the very least he might be able to put their souls to rest. He might also get the opportunity to apologize for his sins in life, and for subjecting his family to torment. As for final boss territory my guess is going to be facing Doug's daughter. I think perhaps Malak will request the aid of Agatha and will offer Doug's daughter a chance for revenge against the father that rejected her and likely killed her and her mother. Final level might be a race against what's essentially 2 Agathas with Doug's daughter being one that you get penalized for stunning. That, or it could be sort of boss run where you have to randomly face a monster from a level with Doug's daughter thrown is there to penalize you if you get trigger happy with stuns.

In this game Bierce and Doug aren’t the heroes, they’re cheats and Malak just wants his end of the bargain that he deserves

I honestly liked what I thought the story was at first: About a detective who uses the dark arts to figure out the answers behind a bunch of crimes and murders. When I saw the floating file folders and documents around each area, I thought that to be the case, but I wasn't really paying attention to anything else. Since I was watching Markiplier play it, I was more in it for the scares rather than the plot so I think about it so deeply or look at the wikis and stuff.

Even with only the first chapter out all that time ago I had known something was up. Bierce definitely wasn't some savior to Doug but rather a puppet master looking to use him to get what she wanted and then destroy Doug when his use was up. I knew it. Edit: And it seems that girl mentioned in the beginning is still alive and kicking. Wonder if that means the Devs will have Doug run into her further down the line.

Why though??? Bierce has absolutely nothing to gain by destroying Doug. She may not be a saint, but there's no logical reason for her to betray us.. at all. The only person who even brings up the idea is Malak, but we have no reason to believe _anything_ he says.

Is it terrible that I am hoping there are multiple endings for the game. I mean it would be so cool if there was an ending where you side with bierce, side with Malik, betray both, and a special one for getting s rank and collecting all the secrets.

I actually trust Malak more than I do Bierce

Before when I saw DD stuff, I skipped it because I figured I had no idea what was going on or anything about it, but this video helped me get started on understanding it and now I've watched basically all of the vids on DD (new and old) and am excited for the final chapter.

3:35 so if certain written works are to be believed all demons are actually fallen angels, so a demon having an artefact named the riddles heaven kinda makes sense as it was possible guarding it when it was cast out and as it fell it got bound to the item.

You know. I just realised a song that I beleve goes perfectly with Helen Bierce but most call her Bierce. But I'm getting a little bit sidetracked so the song that goes with Bierce is hushh by aviva. If you listen to the song then think about dark deception. You'll realize that it goes perfectly together. Edit: I forgot to say how I realised this but I realised that the song says darling in it. And Bierce alwase calls you darling. That's how it first got into my head. Edit #2: I just realised that I'm the first one to point this out. I swear someone is going to read this then just put a Bierce photo on the cover then play the music. And if I ever see that. Then I will feel proud in this short and miserable life that we all have.

I've seen some theories on the ending, but I don't think I've seen any with E. The letters E left behind say that she was able to follow in Malaks footsteps, but she couldn't escape to the human realm. If this is true, E could still be alive (I don't know how long its been since Bierce found Doug though, or if it says that E is dead) BUT if E isn't dead here is my theory. Doug listened to Malak and Bierce, and decides to not give it to either of them. E had found him while collecting the last shard to complete the ring. E had been watching over him, just as she watched the monsters. They find a way to go back to the human realm and Doug is able to turn back time, they both get to return and its a good ensing.

Am I the only only one who thinks Bierce's design is cool and very smooth?

I know it's probably not going to happen this way "probably too overt" but I want to see Doug encounter malic at the beginning of the nurse level, ambushing and temporarily taking away his powers, so he can "remember" what he's fighting for. We'd go to a bridge, see his wife and daughter, watch the car fall, and be taken to the hospital by a officer. When we get out, Beerus would greet us and give us back the powers, before showing us where the level portal is and heading through it.

I'm not sure if this can be expanded, and I actually have very little knowledge about DD, but is it possible that Bierce was given 7 years and a day because that was how old the sacrifice was? If Agatha was indeed the sacrifice, it would align with why her realm is an elementary school, her age being around that age, why she has a child's appearance, and why she's the representative for the sadness and hatred of children.

So excited to learn even more about the games story and now with chapter 4 out I’m so excited for the update on the lore!! cause this chapter has had the most vital lore yet !!! Also ngl if there actually will be a way to bring someone back to life or whatever I want Doug to choose for his wife and daughter to be alive again. That’s the only way he can remotely redeem himself: by going through all these portals, fighting all these monsters and decides to give the choice to have another life (even though I think there will be nothing like that at the end- Bierce obviously talks shit but I can still hope right?!) to his wife and daughter cause he doesn’t deserve this. Not after basically tormenting and killing his family like that. Also it’s pretty interesting that Doug probably did every sin that are depicted by Dante’s hell levels. So that just underlines what I said before.

I can't believe we're only now getting episode 4. See, this is why I DESPISE episodic gaming. Just look what happened to Mark Z Danielewski or Valve, their episodic content was abandoned and left unfinished, the audience stuck with a cliffhanger never to be concluded. Even when they ARE finished, because it's episodic, many creators go into episode 1 with no idea how to finish it, giving us unsatisfactory endings like in BATIM. I don't have high hopes for this, either.
