I just bought the books and can’t wait to read them!

Alec' backstory makes me cry all the time, as does Magnus'. But the fact that Alec was based on Miss Clare's gay friend who committed suicide, and this gives him an alternate universe happy ending of finding his Magnus makes it so bittersweet imo P.S. I also get Alec. As a pansexual Asian, I relate to the conflict of 'duty' and my true self. I'm leaning heavily on truth, but the pull of duty still lingers. So I feel for Alec a lot more than Magnus

@@korinagt6510 alec was based on a friend of Cassandra Clare, the author, who was gay and was stigmatized, so he committed suicide. That's what I heard on the internet anyway. So I guess it's a way for Clare to give her friend a happy ending in an alternate universe to live a life he cannot have

Matthew is a great actor, isn't he? He portayed exactly how the characther of Alec is. Is normal to see him with a straigh face at the start, but that's how he is supposed to be. When you want him to cry, laugh, get angry, or something, he will.

I loved Alec every second he was on screen. He's disciplined, level-headed, and strong willed, but not without empathy or compassion. He keeps an open-mind and adapts and evolves as he learns. He addresses his mistakes and expresses himself without shame, and when it comes to those he loves, no one can come close to comparing to his courage when he fights for them. Him and Magnus were my favorite characters in the series, the fact they're a couple sent me over the moon lol. I've heard things about the books that make me quite apprehensive about reading them, but I think I can push through if it means I get more of the two; individually and together.

God Izzy and especially Jace annoyed me in the 1st season. They could be so self involved and blind to how much Alec was dealing with. At least Izzy tried to understand. Alec was not perfect, letting Meliorn get arrested was awful, lying to Magnus was the worst, he was flawed, but he was the best of them.

i lowkey hated jace in the first season. he was so self focused and selfish, especially when it came to alec, he didn't even try to understand how much and what he was going through, while making it harder for him by asking for so much and not apreciating or even realizing how much alec was doing for him. not everyone's perfect, actually no one is, people make mistakes, especially when they feel alone and overworked, and jace just couldn't accept that. he got better, but magnus was the only one who ever really understood and apreciated what alec had gone through

I totally agree with you! Alec always took time to ask how Jace was but it was never returned, he was too self absorbed and focused on Clary to even understand how Alec was struggling!

I still can’t believe how much character development Maryse went through. She went from “What’s that warlock doing here?” to walking Magnus down the isle, smiling, and kissing his cheek.

Alec used to be so self-destructive, his past and self-esteem always holding him back. And seeing his development, seeing him growing happier is just the most beautiful and inspiring thing. Thank you so much for this edit

I am so so proud of him... I think I have never loved nor will I ever love a character more than Alexander Gideon Lightwood. He is the definition of personal growth and character development. His journey of self-acceptance is one of a kind. ❤

Alec is the most lovely and caring person in the entire show, it's just nobody care about what he feels until magnus came in his life and gave him the love and care he always deserved...

The fact that from the moment he fell in love with Magnus, his story revolved around their relationship has me crying. They were one, way before their marriage.

This is a beautiful video. Out of all the character backstories, Alec probably had the hardest. He was betrayed left and right but he would always stay loyal and shoulder everything. He rightly deserved the happy ending he got with Magnus.

I think magnus' story was harder. Especially because it kept piling over the years. But out of the shadow hunters I definitely agree.

I really love how Maryse went from so against them to being their biggest supporter. The shot where she cries tears of joy at their wedding is amazing. What a character arc.

I just realized that without clary coming into there lives at the point she did alec would have never met magnus ☺🥺

Movie Alec was good too but we didn’t get enough of him to really form an opinion. Movie Alec was sassy, sarcastic, witty and hated Claire. Just like the book, just like the show when Claire was first introduced. But that’s all we got from him because it was the first and only movie.

@@Bea..l0v3 yes, Alec played his part really well, but I say Magnus played his part better. At least he didn't resist his every move. Alec kept his distance with Magnus in every move. Just watch the episodes. With Jace it was different. Therefore Honey, Magnus was the best. He was very REAL with his performance.

Alec had the biggest development. From the 'sacrificing his loved ones to save the world' to the 'sacrificing the world to save his loved ones'. That's a great development in the first place, he had issues but he was the most precious one for me.

I don't think he would sacrificed his loved ones to save the world. He would more likely to sacrifice himself to save the world if that means his loved ones are safe.

Matthew did justice with the character alec it's really beautiful to see things in alec's point of view malec were the couple that can make u fall in love with them every time u see them they can literally outshine clace the video was so beautiful and natural in felt like i am rewatching the whole series in these 38 minutes.....💜💜💜

I love how despite Alec does start smiling more even with others through-out the series, his biggest smiles and more lively facial expressions seem to be reserved for Magnus.

Omg,.... 6:24 and 6:27 where he holds Magnus hand and touches his heart, is soooo creative( like as the Silent Brother speaks the thing with “a rune on the hand a rune on the heart”)🤭🥰

So many tears and so many smiles. Gotta love our angsty boy turned warm, generous, selfless, and confident man. A job well done.

This is an amazing character development! He went from a boy who follows every rule of the Clave and family to a man who changes the whole world for the ones he loves most. I love him.

alec let out his breath after he met magnus. the 35:02 made me cry more than i’m already crying. the passion these two have always makes me cry. alec has changed so much and i’m so proud because he's my favorite character

Wow. I never thought I’d say this but I regret not moving forward after the first 5 episodes of Shadowhunters. I was too stubborn to get past Katherine McNamara’s acting that I never knew that the Malec relationship was portrayed THIS CLOSE to the books itself. I’m so sad this show got cancelled.

Magnus literally saved Alec , from a scared boy hiding in shadows who was scared of emotions to a proud man who loved another man so much that he changed the world for him.

Ugjgujgugjfufjfuh I got so annoyed on Jace and Izzy in the first season. They was so self involved they only noticed Alec’s “ mistakes “, Alec always cared about everyone except himself. He did everything he could to help his friends and his family. And he was still not good enough. And then Magnus showed up, showed him that he is good enough, and that he his worth so much more. Alec had so much pressure of his parents when he was younger and he was raised to be a leader and a warrior and only that, he cared so much about about others that when a accident happened to someone that wasn’t his fault he could die from the feelings of guilt. He blamed everything on him, Because he’s used to that it’s his fault. Jace came in to his life and Alec had to be the shadow of Jace’s talents. And I love the scene when Alec says “ I’m not ur shadow anymore” to Jace. Jace is an amazing character too. I just love Alec for the person he his.

They were but at least izzy wasn’t as self absorbed as jace, jace stayed annoying, him and clary were selfish and self absorbed and only thought of themselves and not how what did they could have consequences on everyone around them, he was also a terrible parabatai to alec, jace is just one character I’m just not fond of, he had his good moments but just not a character I like very much

When Magnus proposed to Alec, you could tell how happy he was and how much he was trying not to cryand when Magnus went to Edom, god i felt for Alec so much it was so unfair to put him through that. im so glad he got his happy eneding
