The Story Behind Ted Bundy's Death Row Meal

Ойын-сауық

Ted Bundy is one of the most infamous serial killers in American history.
He committed a string of horrific crimes before being caught, trialled and eventually executed on 24 January 1989. In the episode of Death Row Diner, Sasha Appleton and Joe Carey discuss Ted's case whilst we see his death row meal being prepared.
His death row meal might have been a slightly unusual choice... and Ted never even ate a bite.

The reason he confessed the day before his execution is because ironically, he was so petrified of dying he had the vain hope that if he confessed to everything including things he wasn't convicted of his execution would be delayed indefinitely so that he could lead them to all the bodies, more trials, etc. Luckily it didn't work for the benefit of humanity.

Not true. Bundy's last interview the day before his execution was done by James Dobson. Bundy personally picked Dobson who was a Christian conservative, who founded the "Focus on Family" organization. His ideology was basically, "Porn is responsible for everything evil." Bundy confessed to the crimes and blamed pornography. He only did this because Dobson had strong political connections and the ear of the only people who could grant Bundy a stay. He told Dobson what he wanted to hear. Cunning right to the end.

Absolutely everything about the person cooking that meal made me anxious. Not cleaning the pan after the steak, the charred bits of steak stuck to the eggs, everything about peeling the potatoes, shallow frying the potatoes before deep frying, the height of the oil, how hard the butter is before being spread onto the toast, burning the butter in the pan, no herbs in the butter, stacking the dry side of the toast on the jam, using a cleaned nutella jar for a mouthful of milk, the comically small juicer getting quarter of the juice out of seven oranges for a half a glass of juice, spilling the coffee beans whilst pouring them into a spice grinder, pouring boiling water directly on the ground coffee and serving it on a baking tray... chaotic evil at it's finest.

Carol DaRonch, thankfully, was able to escape from Bundy because during their struggle inside the VW he put both handcuffs on the same wrist leaving her right hand free to open the door and jump out. She ran into the street and flagged down an elderly couple and jumped, terrified, into their car. Bundy took off and found another victim named Debbie Kent that same evening. Officer David Lee was the patrolman who single handedly apprehended Bundy in Pensacola and ended his killing spree forever. He is a hero, one of many, in the Bundy saga.

When I think of the young women of today saying that they can handle/protect themselves and be physically equal to a man, the case of the 17 year old hitchhiker, mentioned here, comes to mind. The following info. is what I recall from a book written by a friend and work colleague of Ted who investigated the cases and did interviews after he was on death row. Prior to the teen's death, news had been circulating of a man targeting and killing young women. The parents of the teen tried to warn her off from hitching because of it. She told them that she was capable of recognizing and avoiding danger and fighting off a man if it came to that, because...(her reasoning) she was tall and fit. As I recall, as soon as she got into his car, he told her that she had made a mistake. She panicked and reached for the door and found that the handle had been removed. I don't recall how he incapacitated her, i.e. repeatedly smashed her head into the dashboard or he may have shot her dead outright, but it only took seconds and he did not even have to stop the car to make her null and void. Given the format of this show, let the teen's harsh lesson be food for thought.
