At 18 m 35 s Rob Papen says he does not know how Nova’s songs came to Brazil. I’m Brazilian and many years ago, I had a page on late Geocities about my favorite electronic music albums (specially Claudio Gizzi and Romano Mussumara’s “automat”). It had a section about Terranova. I found on Internet Rob’s page and sent himv a message with questions about the album. It was a great moment when I received his reply. Maybe he was talking about it. Here in Brazil, in 80’s Terranova was sold on music stores. Until now, I have a vinyl album.

It was also a hit in South Africa and up to this day played by many main stream radio stasion. GR8 musical production.

Quite interesting interview. So far I only knew Rob Papen because of his VST plugins and as a sound designer.

This album "Terranova" belong to the classics in Electronic Music.. Bravo!!!

"Aurora" is een excerpt van de PeRu track "Sons of dawn", welke terug te vinden is op het in 1981 op Peru Records verschenen debutalbum van PeRu, Machu Picchu. "Sons of dawn" is de 3e track van Macchu Picchu, met een speelduur van 8:04.

I was 12 that time when Nova - Aurora released and bought the single. I also bought the maxi single later. So i have very nice memories with this track.

Grappig... ik ben ook begonnen met orgel, kan beperkt noten lezen, en Jean Michel Jarre is ook een groot voorbeeld voor mij. Helaas heb ik nooit een MS20 gehad lol .... Aurora was een van de eerste nummers die ik probeerde na te spelen 👍👍

I bought inmediatly at the age of 16 the album. Great to see what Rob is doing now these days. Thanks

Thank for that interview. Here in Brazil on 80s was almost impossible gather information from Nova. I always want to know who was its members (Terranova had no photos of them).

Wat een topgozer toch die Rob! En een heel goed interview natuurlijk. Ik luister nog geregeld naar werk van Peru/Nova. Kan me nog herinneren dat nr's van het album "Continents" ook gebruikt werden in de Bassie en Adriaan serie "Het Geheim van de Schatkaart". Dat album is mijn favoriete Peru album maar Constellations en Moon zijn ook erg goed. Onder de naam Erotic Dreams hebben ze in 1998 ook nog een Enigmatic album gemaakt (Enigma stijl) genaamd "Temple Of Love". Ook goed spul maar helaas niet echt aangeslagen! Groeten, Remco van Es.

Haha oh ik keek vroeger ook altijd Bassie & Adriaan, grappig om te horen dat er nummers van Rob in zaten!

Nice interview, great story. from my perspective.... Despite fact synths were extremally expensive he could already afford one while we on Poland were struggling to get anything. On time they made a track Aurora i was little bit younger and I was recording song from radio on reel tape recorder (Grundig licensed ). I recognized Peru in 1988 when one of the Polish Radio presenters came in weekly program with the Forlian album emitted almost fully - which I off course recorded... It became instantly my best artist with "Whales" as best song, but ... not possible to get more. I guess 10-15 years later on early internet and P2P era on the chat I expressed what music i wanted to get as Mp3 ... and guy from the other side asked: "WHAT ? you're from POland and you REALLY know Peru ? how ??" when i explained... he said "Ok I'm Dutch I can share it for you" - That was seventh heaven for me then to get the full . "Whales" right now became a main background for the simple sailing movies I am shooting for fun of my own and my yacht club friends. Could not imagine better bond. 🙂

I have never heard this song. Now I know something "new". Thanks Twan!

Heel leuk interview Rob

Great interview and great memories. I discovered Nova with 16 years and I've been listening since then, recopilating all singles, Lp's and cassetes. I have the Cd "Terranova" and "The Best Of Nova" and of course I'm going to preorder the new Double Cd with two albums and the bonus tracks. I love the NOVA sound, it makes me travel to the stars. Thanks a lot.

Hey Twan, for future reference: I think "One Day Fly" is a literal translation of "Eendagsvlieg". Better known as "One Hit Wonder" in most places. Thanks for all your content, great interview as always. Never forgot about this track, nice work!

You are 100% correct! After the interview I thought I should have said "one hit wonder" instead, but I guess people know what Rob meant hehe :D Thank you! And indeed, what a track right?

I’m born&raised in Dordrecht so I knew Ruud van Es. He had an impressive studio at the time. But real talk: I didn’t know Rob was a part of Aurora🙈 Never too old to learn 😅

Ik ben zeer benieuwd, welke synths/sequencers gebruikt zijn in Aurora.

This was fabulous, Thank you. I suppose it was probably in terms of minutes rarely played in full even when it got to number 1. Plus when you get bored, you can perhaps cover best live synth performances you've seen!

Yes! Pretty cool right? I always loved "Aurora" as a little kid, but until early 2021 I had no idea Rob was one of the persons behind this #1 hit!

Thank you very much! And I would love that, but Muzikxpress is "just" a hobby for me and I hardly get any advertisting revenue from it. So that means I do not have a travel budget. DJ Dado lives in Italy and I don't think he has ever performed here in The Netherlands (where I am based), so I doubt this will ever happen..... That's why my interviews are mostly with people based in The Netherlands or artists that visit The Netherlands for DJ gigs / shows, which as you can imagine, didn't really happen much since COVID started.... Anyway, glad you like the interviews, thanks a lot! More to come soon! :)

I loved Nova as a kid, but the Peru sound grew on me. Now i dislike Nova and absolute love the Peru sound..Funny that the same artists can produce such a different sound.
