The story behind "Jam & Spoon - Odyssey To Anyoona" by Jam El Mar | Muzikxpress 168

Rolf Ellmer a.k.a. Jam El Mar is responsible for many big hits and classics. Together with DJ Dag he was part of the act Dance 2 Trance and with the late Mark Spoon he had lots of hits under project names such as Storm, Tokyo Ghetto Pussy and of course Jam & Spoon.
In August 2020 I made a trip to Frankfurt in Germany to sit down with Rolf for 3 interviews. But because Rolf did so many amazing tracks, I got to visit him again in July 2022 for 3 more interviews, which we recorded in his brand new studio. In the first interview I did ask Rolf about the story behind the Jam & Spoon classic “Odyssey To Anyoona”, which is taken from the Jam & Spoon album “Tripomatic Fairytales 2001”.
Enjoy and thanks for watching!

Mark spoon really was a genius. He always seems to be the one with the ideas for the songs and his brain seems to be wired perfectly for electronic dance music. What an incredible talent he was and such a loss for the music world!

In "Find me" I love the way the chords are playing B major in the start, and when the bass starts it turns out to be an Abm7. And I love the dreaming feeling the Maj7 chords are giving.

For me, Jam&Spoon's main hit is the "Heart of Africa". The iconic, incomprehensible beat and the strange tonality of the bass part have fallen in love with this band forever. A small but tenacious legend of the nineties.

Very progressive Trance sound. So far ahead from the Trance that was produced later on. Thank you Ben! And I only focus on hits / big classics for these interviews to be honest. It is hard enough already to get a decent amount of views to cover all the costs I make. So those aren’t really on my list. Plus I only do interviews about originals, not about remixes. Artists rather talk about their own originals instead of remixes they made for someone else. Plus the stories behind originals are much better compared to something that’s “just” a remix request. I don’t say those remixes aren’t good, but for my channel it is just not something that I would like to do. Just being honest!

We can talk about the "Jam & Spoon" music for hours... Or even more... Days, weeks, months... Jam & Spoon is the most influential electronic duo that ever existed. The track itself is not my favorite, to be honest, but you just can't deny how great it sounds (even nowadays). But, if we talk about the fresh versions (released quite recently) Frankyeffe's version is a pure Techno-Banger! Definitely going to put it in one of my mixes. 9:28 Jam/Rolf doesn't want to talk about vocal samples! Well so many dance & electronic artists have sampled Bulgarian choral music, from Leftfield's Song Of Life through to Bicep's Apricots. None of them have had legal problems that I know of. Perhaps because these are recordings of traditional Bulgarian songs. This track sampled is "Young Vena" performed by Le Mystère Des Voix Bulgares. Oh man, i hope you will also do an Episode about "Follow me" , their most epic track. Thank you for sharing this one, I remember when Mark Spoon played Anyoona on Dat before the official release , at his resident club the "Dorian Gray", it sounded so amazing on its sound system.

1:42, i think the track he was trying to think of is Find Me

No, he's talking about "Heart Of Africa", the first track on the "Tripomatic Fairytales 2001" album, which is followed by "Odyssey To Anyoona". "Find Me" wasn't even done at the time they started with "Odyssey To Anyoona". And that one became the basis for "Find Me" as he explains in the interview around 10:52 (start of the explanation). Hope this clears some things up :)

Anyone but Jam, I would call BS on coincidence with Love Stimulation! As with many other of his/their tracks there are a lot of 'coincidences' (I will always ❤Jam & Spoon, regardless)

Odyssey to Anoonya came out in 1993. Love Stimulation was 1996 so if anyone did any copying it was Humate
