I was, I believe. the the first dealer, in the south, for the rebooted Danelectro guitars, and stomp boxes. Steve wanted me to buy 100 guitars, and I think we settled on 20. The guitars and pedals flew out of my little mom and pop music shop. If you see a 90's Dano guitar in south Louisiana, I probably sold it.

I bought a FAB distortion pedal very cheaply at a pawn shop years ago and hated it, relegated to the "Drawer of Disappointment" (that drawer full of broken/sub-par effects pedals, faulty leads etc). But I'd only ever used it with my Stratocaster. I then watched the JHS episode on the Danelectro FAB series and decided to give it another shot. I tried it with a Les Paul copy I've got and it sounded fantastic. It's now sitting along with all the pedals that aren't on my pedalboard, but are there for recordings etc. It's now officially a "rescue pedal". Now I've got to try it with the bass. Thanks for the tip!

I know right! This guy gives me the feeling that he's waiting to get jumped or punked any second now. He double laughs (almost uncomfortably) at a lot of things Josh says before Josh has completed the actual statement, and has said anything of consequence or worthy of a laugh. This guy is clearly sharp, and knows how to negotiate for more money, and also knows when to jump on a new trend and ride the new income wave like he was Kelly Slater. He also apparently has his ear to the tracks and is reading the pulse of the market and the feedback from the players and entire community... so major kudos to that highly respectable trait. I don't think any of us are going to go to China, find the factory, then talk to the factory heads and ask them to verify the story of the the major "bone-head" decision to preorder all those parts, but I get a feeling some of this story happened a little differently and that the Chinese would probably never do this (though it is definitely possible) and this was a good way cover up an ill advised decision that a guy high on sales and success made at a time when the market was effing crazy and there were several million kids in the US with disposable income from either their parents or part time jobs, and they were all being turned on to fads quicker than ever before and at a larger scale thanks to the internet. This story also made Steve and his company seem less like a money hungry shyster and more like a victim trying to fix someone else's mistake when he was demanding small mom and pops buy in at a minimum order of 100 if they wanted to be a part of the Danelectro craze. I don't disagree with his right to do that in a free market, and i'm glad he could, but there is also a side of me that screams thats unethical to a tiny degree. There are barely even 100 guitars in the town I live in, so no way any local store could move that quantity in a 5 year period (according to another viewers post, they haggled with him to bring it down to a much more reasonable 20 guitars... so i'm totally fine with him asking a high # if he's willing to work with people that took the time to actually conduct proper business). This is the second time in this video I've posted a somewhat unfavorable comment about Steve, but I do want to make it clear that I do respect a lot of what he's doing and what he has done for the music community and I most definitely respect his drive, but this is a free country and I can freely express my opinion when I get a somewhat off feeling about someone. Regardless of everything else said, he showed a little respect and courage by coming on this show, and that's commendable even if it was only a business decision. I definitely want to thank Josh and JHS for getting him on, doing this story, and sharing such quality informative content.

A Fab Flange was the first pedal I ever modded and re-housed, and led to me buying a BYOC ping pong echo kit, which led to me now building pedals from scratch. Thanks Danelectro, if I didn't have a $20 pedal to take a chance on, I'd have never found that I had a love for tweaking and building pedals, and electronics in general! That pedal is actually still on my board 7 years later!

Thanks Josh for finally doing a danelectro episode I'm actually ordering some danelectro pedals from guitar center today the danecho, daddy o,cool cat,Fab fuzz, french toast and the Fab delay I've owned a ton of stuff from them over the years and I've pretty much loved them all except the grilled cheese distortion and the corned beef reverb still waiting on behringer to send a vibrato and super fuzz since you recommended them most of their good stuff is on back order and I'm too broke to afford much else maybe someday I will be able to upgrade to jhs products

The part about the Danelectro parts being hidden in chicken coops in south jersey! There was a legend about somebody related to the company doing this to keep MCA from getting the parts. I knew the guy he's talking about who had the trademark. He was known as THE Danelectro guy. He had a guitar shop and put together Danelectros with new old stock! He went around buying up any Danelectro products from every music store in the region. Pretty neat story.

Nate Daniels started other companies after he sold Danelectro. MCA ran the company in the ground and had no more interest in running the company correctly than CBS did the New York Yankees after they bought them or after buying Fender guitars.

I moved to Long Branch, NJ, just a few miles from Neptune, around the time Danelectro was sold in '68. I had (and wish I still had) a DS 50 amp (with the 3 X 10 cab), and it seemed like everybody (even Bruce) had Danelectro stuff. Over the years I've had a 60s copper-top double-cutaway (awesome guitar), another little amp, and when the brand was resurrected bought one of the first guitars (single cutaway, periwinkle blue), then a doubleneck (6-string and baritone), a Daddy-O... anyway, thanks for the fascinating and informative interview.
