The Storied History of the Stout -- Stout Beer History
Today Ryan will pry open the history books to bring you the history of one of beer nerds favorite styles, the stout. Stouts are extremely popular amongst craft brewers today and is easily one of the most drank styles around the world. But you might be surprised by the style's origins. So pour yourself a beautiful black beer and let's learn some beer history.

Stouts and porters are what convinced me beer can actually taste good. Prior to trying them, my only beer experience was with light macro lagers.

For me it's IPA first, then Porter. But for fitness reason, if I drink alcohol, I only drink half a IPA or porter/stout

Ahhhh love stout. The blacker the better.
Guinness draught or extra stout is a favorite stout, however if I had to choose between them I would pick the draught. It's the smoothest of the two. I like to say that" Guinness is like mother's milk to me"

I don’t consider myself a beer connoisseur, and I know nothing about the nuance of these different drinks, but stouts are my favorite. I drink them all the time. They’re so tasty, especially these chocolate and peanut butter variants.

Ten sleep, Wyoming. Porter and stout are some of the best I have try.
My favorite style of stouts are the Russian Imperial Stout and Barrel-Aged Stouts. My personal best are the Stubborn Russian, Founder's Kentucky Breakfast Stout, Lakeman's Hairy Bogan, Boatrocker's Ramjet, and Brewdog's Cocoa Psycho.

My first Stout was in 1998, and it was a Guinness , and I had it made into a Black and Tan, So that probably doesn't count, then the next one was 2 years ago, and I thought my mouth had been violated, I cant even remember which one it was, but later found out it was a good quality Stout, my Taste buds just weren't ready for it , I Love em now, Sorry, I know that wasnt really what you were wanting comments about, Very interesting Video of the Stout History, you had my undivided attention , Cheers Ryan, I destroyed the Like Button

Stout is my favorite. Maybe not extra stout but standard stouts and milk stouts are lovely. I don't really care for any other types of beer.
As someone who actually didn’t like beer, or as I call it American piss water. I was in England for a couple weeks in 92 and decided to try their beers with out much hope I would enjoy it. Was I wrong, the first time I tried Guinness seeing this in the glass all brown and looking almost alive until it settled down and turned black i was wondering what the hell did I order. One sip and I was hooked. To this day when I go to a bar I ask if they either Guinness or New Castle, if the answer is no I order a coke.

Bourbon County!!!
wow, I always, whole my life, thought that stout is a coffee beer haha
Founders breackfast stout
1) Swan Brewing, Lakeland FL - Champurrado (Mexican Hot Chocolate) chocolate & chili Imperial Stout. 2) Grand Avenue Brewing, Phoenix AZ -- Grand Avenue Stout (imperial) Normally I'd just give the Grand Avenue Brewery stout first place. I generally dislike chocolate, chile additions or flavorants of any kind, but 'damn' Swan absolutely killed it. Perhaps the best beer I've ever had. Swan usually has its winner, but Grand Avenue Stout isn't always on tap. I'm very disappointed when it's not, but both have wonderful selections. And as far as types go, i like all types. But my preference is stouts. Oddly I'm not that fond of Porters as many tend to be too sweet, but I won't turn up my nose at a Porter either. I just don't like things too sweet. I like a good cider and even a good mead, but it's awful hard to find these that aren't overly sweet. No doubt there are plenty of excellent sweetish drafts, but they're just not to my taste.
Breckenridge brewing does a fantastic Vanilla Nitro
So many different flavors added to stouts now its hard to pick a favorite "standard" stout. Porters are easier in that regard. Great Lakes, Edmund Fitzgerald.

Old Rasputin is great, it's a nitro imperial stout.
The Patsy - Coconut Rye Stout by Barley Forge Brewery

Guinness extra stout.
I have to drop my two coins on here mate. First off, the 1st worst was coors. Never again with the coors. It hit me like a fist out of nowhere and had a terrible taste! I had just drunk the stuff and was flat on my arse regretting it a few hours later with the hangover to match. My 2nd worst was bud.. no taste, cheap, quick buz and bad hangover. The 3rd was steel reserve 211, which was surprisingly smooth yet got you f****d. Then at number 4 was st ides, which was actually tastier than the first three deceptively but bad for the liver. The 5th was cammo which was the go to in my youth as was the fourth. Smooth and fun, literally forgot your troubles.. literally! The 6th was labbatt blue and molsen; they tried but failed. Then we go into the better beers here. The 7th was pabst blue ribbon. Nostalgia, but cheap. It was my uncle’s and dad’s favorite. Good drinking even when it’s long long expired.. but hey I’m still alive! Busch is next at 8th, and though it’s a better choice it’s still lacking. Boldness and taste. Now my favorite beers. The 9th runner up, namely Irish cream ale and genesee. Don’t know much about them nor how they’re made nor where they’re from, but they are cheap and good. The 10th is miller: the lite, high life, and regular. The Best! The 11th is New Castle Brown ale; Wonderful, Strong, yet has good taste. The 12th and final is the winner here, the first is last and the last first. Guinness! This one beer the the best of them all! A great brew for a night home or on the town with family and friends. A great stout for October fest, or for any Irish pub that ye might fancy. And if ye jam out to the Irish Rovers and drinking this stuff, you’ll be singing along in no time, reliving good old days. There, I’ve given you my opinion on the drink of choice for the hard working, no matter where you are. But it’s always better to drink with family.. friends.. community. For that is why this drink was invented, to bring joy to the drinkers. So git ye out, and git ye a mug o’ beer, and sit down, relax, and have a good responsible time. Cheers! 😉 A side note; I’ve got to admit I’ve mentioned malt liquor, beer, lager, ale, and stout. The absolutely worst was drinking Milwaukee’s best and blue moon! These didn’t get a mention as I tried these and threw up afterwards. I saw that not only they were nasty and “ghetto” but also terrible! I blew my chunks on both of these and wasted my hard earned dough! They’re not recommended!
