The Steam Deck Unboxing - Ultimate Handheld Gaming PC? (GTA5, Elden Ring, Call of Duty)

Ойындар

Unboxing gameplay of new Steam Deck portable AAA gaming PC. Best handheld gaming PC so far? Too early to say, but it does have a great price point. Nintendo Switch / PlayStation Vita console style gaming experience but with PC games. Grand Theft Auto V, Cyberpunk 2077, Peppa Pig, Doom, Call of Duty Ghosts, Elden Ring, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Dying Light 2 gameplay. Thanks to Valve for sending this review sample.

Steam Deck www.steamdeck.com/
Please note: I've only had the Steam Deck for few days. This is rather an unboxing and first impressions video than an in-depth review. My first impressions on the hardware are positive but more games need optimization and support for Steam Deck. Only about half of the games I tried worked. Also hoping to see many more non-Steam apps. 120Hz OLED display with smaller bezel would be nice as a premium variant option on a next gen Steam Deck.
Steam Deck does push out hot air from the exhaust but stays "cool" to hold. I did not notice anything unusual or feel uncomfortable holding it during gaming. Steam Deck feels bigger and heavier than a Nintendo Switch so you may want to rest your hands against a surface when gaming.
According to early reviewers Steam Deck's battery life has been about 80-90 minutes on 60FPS lock setting for example in God of War and Forza Horizon 5. This of course also depends on the in-game settings you're running (also brightness, volume etc). On 30FPS lock setting the battery can last much longer, especially if running graphically less demanding game. I'm yet to run any tests of my own so I'd recommend checking out the battery life tests from various review sites.

    @@mrducky179 other companies prices will drop drastically, and for multiple reasons. 1) the majority of why steam deck is great is because it’s the first handheld to have access to AMD rdna2. Within a few months the other companies will have that as well, gaining performance while also being more battery efficient. 2) steam deck doesn’t have to buy windows licenses which cut costs. Other companies can also start using steam OS for free which will, again, let them sell for cheaper. 3) interest in handhelds is going to skyrocket, and when there’s more customers you can buy more in bulk from manufacturers and once again, lower prices.

    As somebody who owns a lot of the pc gaming handhelds these days, this performance is very comparable to a lot of the modern ones that are 3x expensive. Very impressive. Literally I'd say the only device that will out perform it will be the Aya Neo Next, but that one is practically 4x expensive. But hey, word is they already have plans working on the Steam Deck 2 once the original steam deck orders are fulfilled. I'm so glad we've reached a point where someone like valve can make these so affordable for the standard consumer market. Edit: This comment is very dated. Obviously, there are much more powerful devices out nowadays, That clearly “can” beat the steam deck these days, but requires a far greater wattage to do so, so it kills battery and potentially has loud fans. Excited to see where we go from here. Clearly Steam will eventually make a follow up too, but glad to see that GPD, Aya, OneXPlayer, and others are still in the mix and offering different styles and options if the Steam Deck doesn’t suit you, and you happen to have a lot of expendable money.

    An interesting thing for those that do not know. The stutters are ususally the steam deck compiling shaders. The more shaders get compiled the more they get shared. After being shared you download them along with the game. This helps with performance.

    If a game is not on steam would that also hold true? I’m a fan of the Steam Deck. For me it’s a perfect blend of usability to bridging the gap between the pc games I want to play and the portability to enjoy them around and about. I’m one of those people who bring a sling back with my switch and iPad to and from work and I’ll often game from anywhere from 15 minutes to 2-3 hours if I have a game I’m enjoying so this being an option for me to completely declutter my desk situation for watching Netflix or doing spreadsheets and then picking this up putting it in the sling bag and then playing games in between breaks and my lunch and when I get home is really all I could ask for and more. I’m not a triple a gamer by any means. I’m a super casual gamer that enjoys my rpgs or choose your own adventures and lots of indie titles for me and retro emulation. For me this checks nearly all the boxes I could need checked. I look forward to seeing some of the initial hiccups get ironed out and more tutorials before I get one but I’m excited for it definitely ☺️

    Isn't the resolution very low? Won't the games look blurry? I know its small, so pixels are more concentrated. But we are also seeing from near ( as it is like a mobile phone). So the effect will be same as a 192081080 laptop from 3-4 feel distance.

  • @piplup10203854

    @piplup10203854

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@abcdefgh6121 Honestly I’m not really sure 🤔 supposedly the resolution is 1200x800 which is an hd signal. Handheld switch is 720 and there are many games that look quite good and even though the resolution can only output 800p signal on the steam deck I’d imagine it’s strong enough to upscale in terms of emulation or whatnot. I’m personally not a stickler over pixels as it’s more about the game and the experience for me than how it looks even if it’s very low quality. My personal favorite game is Majoras Mask and it gets destroyed for the looks and pixels but it’s my favorite game and there are citra mods that can make a 1080p or even a 4K resolution and it looks even better so for me I’m not too worried about it. It might struggle docked though with resolution scaling but I won’t know till I get one.

    pretty incredible that they're able to get AAA games running that smoothly on a handheld device, and for a relatively affordable price none the less. I'm guess their strategy with the steam deck is to sell it at a loss, but balance out that loss with the profits of selling games on the steam platform. pretty awesome, if they did that sort of approach with desktops they could probably sell desktops cheaper than custom builts pcs. crazy to think about how much more the future holds for gaming
