Season 2 ark: Spongebob, having used the secret formula so many times to protect the Krusty Krab, has become addicted to it. Squidward, watching as MrKrabs does nothing about this, leaves and joins Planktons side. We follow Squidward, as we learn more about Plankton, and how his childhood with MrKrabs tells us how Plankton was only trying to protect the world from the secret formula. Squidward leaves the Bikina Bottom to confront Spongebob and try to get through to him. Spongebob, now with a permanent tinge of red in his eyes as MrKrabs has hooked him up to an IV drip of sorts of the secret formula so that he can continue working at the Krusty Krab. Spongebob doesn't listen to Squidward, calling him a traitor. Squidward continues to try and make Spongebob understand, part one of the finale ends with Spongebob taking a syringe out of his pocket saying "MrKrabs told me to only use this in an emergency, before jabbing it into his neck. Part 2 of the finale opens with Squidward defeated in front of Spongebob, we flash back to see a battle of epic proportion between Squidward and Spongebob, but in the end Spongebob is victorious. Squidward continues to try and reason with Spongebob, but at this point, Spongebob can't even hear Squidward over the screams of The Secret Formula. Spongebob slowly approaches Squidward before saying, "No wonder you never got employee of the month" Squidward's eyes turn from green to blue. Squidward stands up, and a reverse of the OP can be seen, with Patrick behind Squidward. A single tear falls from Squidwards eye and we hear Squidward speak in Patricks voice "I thought you would be the one to save us" We are then given a flash-back to before Patrick died. We see Patrick training Spongebob with Squidward over to the side, training alone. We are then shown a scene where Spongebob and Patrick sparring slowly fades into them fighting in the Jellyfish Fields. Finally we see Spongebob deal a final blow to Patrick. Before we are brought back to the present we are shown Spongebob going around the town, telling Sandy, then MrKrabs, then Squidward that Patrick had been ran over whilst on their way back to the dojo. We return back to the present with a transition out of Squidward's eye. Squidward begins crying with rage shouting "YOU DID IT!?!" Spongebob only smirks and says "I'm suprised you didn't figure it out" Squidward leaps at Spongebob, with Patrick's aid. As the 2 duke it out, Patrick talks to Squidward in his head, "We still can't defeat him while he has the formula in him, we have to play smart, Spongebob's patterns will be simpler while he has the formula in his system, he's relying too much on brute strength" Squidward nods before jumping back as Spongebob leaps at him with a punch. Spongebob falls to the ground. Squidward tried to approach but Spongebob grabs his leg before he can get close enough. Squidward receives another thrashing, but this time, after Squidward gets up he hears Patrick say "Adapt to his patterns". We see the same situation play out with Spongebob leaping at Squidward and falling, but this time Squidward leaps into the air and we see the attack he used in the OP. The next scene is a back and forth between Spongebob making an attack which hits, to making the same attack and getting punished. We finish the scene with both Spongebob and Squidward equally damaged. Spongebob exclaims "You can't keep fighting like this. I'll win in the end". Squidward replies with "I know" before going for a fakeout dash forward, only to dodge to the side. Spongebob tries to meet Squidward forward dash in the middle, only to find him not there, before receiving a swift kick to the back, sending him tumbling. Spongebob stands up, furious that Squidward got the first hit in. Spongebob jumps into the air, his presence feels as though it cover the entire sky. Squidward screams "NO MORE" and jumps into the air to meet Spongebob, this catching him off guard. Squidward grabs Spongebob out of the air and throws him into the ground. Spongebob uses all his power he has left to try and stand. Squidward approaches him and says "So that extra Formula must've finally worn off" Spongebobs eyes don't return to normal. Squidward and Parick say, "The Spongebob I know may be gone, but I know he would've wanted me to do this" Before delivering the final blow. We zoom out as we see Squidward fall to his knees singing through the tears "F is for friends who do stuff together... U is for... You and me. N is for... N is for" Before beginning to sob. The screen fades to black. I put way more work into this them I'm proud of so I hope at least someone enjoys it

This is the best opening in the series. Hands down. It established perfectly with visuals and music the desperation of the Krusty Crew. After the shocking and devastating loss at the climax of last season, we open with our heroes tired, hopeless, and desperate. While squidward is shown as unstoppable in this intro. Perfect set up for the season.

ROMI is such a god. Easily my favorite cover artist EVER. His instrumentals and voice are spot on. Along with this incredible animation (undeniably some of the best on youtube, jesus), this opening is a godsend.

Now I need OP 3, when Patrick comes back as three Patricks due to his regeneration ability, just like in the manga. I'm also really excited this season for Kevin and the Jellyfish Spotters Arc! Can't wait to see that new villain join in the mix.

Figgins manga reader here i followed the series for sometime an the goofy goober arc is gonna happen SPOILER ALERT It happens as soon as patrick comes back from cells then gets his WUMBO form from there the series gets really lit the anime an manga are pretty on par with each other good stuff all around

The last arc was purely fanservice when they had the panty raid. But this season looks like its gonna be different 10/10

Sam Creighton But are we sure Season 2 will adapt the Dirty Bubble Trails Arc(since he gets introduced in that arc)? Season One Adapted the Help Wanted arc, Fry Cook Exam arc, Treedome Air arc, Plankton Arrive arc, Jellyfish x Jellyfish Competition arc, Mermaidman/Barnacleboy arc, and 1/4 of the Squidward Blood Turn arc. That covered 124 chapters of the manga into a 62 episode season. The Dirty Bubble Trails arc doesn't happen until chapter 238 and since season 2 has will have less episodes than season 1( I think it's suppose to have 48 or 50 episodes, I can't remember), I don't think they will be able to fit that into the season. Season 2 is going to finish the rest of the Squidward Blood Turn arc and it is also confirmed that the Patrick Memories and the Karate Training arcs will be adapted. I don't know how many more arc will be adapted into season 2, but I am positive that they will have the Old Man Mermaidman arc adapted. As far as I know, Dirty Bubble Trails will be in Season 3, but let's see.

Icy Sushi Yeah, but I'm okay with it since it's going to be a 45 minute long episode. Plus they haven't done a 45 minute episode in a long time. The last time they did it was for the mid-season finale for season 1, which was the ending for the Larry Extreme arc. Also, the Patrick Memories Arc is only 6 chapters long and since the anime likes to put zero to no filler, I think it'll work out.

Patrick only got revived in the manga because of the stupid editors, there's plenty of interviews with Stephen Hillenburg where talks about it. Patrick's death was such a big event at the end of the Introductory Saga, bringing him back sortof ruins his sacrifice.

ITS TIME FOR ANOTHERRRR OPENING BREAKDOWN: Obviously the fight at the Krusty Krab didnt go as planned for any of the Krusty Krab Krew. Sandy wasn't only launched into the wall, but clearly continued fighting Squidward with the help of Spongebob which resulted in her losing an arm. Patrick is dead despite popular belief that he would be able to regrow his body. Spongebob and crew suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the chum empowered Squidward. As the months have gone by, their spirits diminish and the light and hope in everyones eyes had begun to fade. Squidward and Plankton begin to create an army of the Plankton robots seen in the Season 1 opening and a desperate Spongebob (who probably slumped into a deep depression as inferred by the ice cream sundae on his face, Watch the spongebob movie (ice cream sundae's = Alcohol)) decided to take Mr.Krabs secret formula, willingly giving himself to the Nine Pickled Patty Demon within in it and his eyes change just as squidwards eyes changed in the first season. Just as Spongebob takes it Squidward feels the Demon within spongebob awaken a miles away (probably because there is a demon within the Chum that he took) and his bloodlust is reawakened. Sandy sees Spongebob prepare to leave, wishes him good luck and Spongebob arms himself with his legendary spatula and heads out for his rematch with Squidward in Jellyfish Fields. Spongebob is now moving in ways similar to Squidward and has strength that rivals him (Once again proving that Squidward has a demon in him same way Spongebob does now) . After taking a punishing blow from Squidward all seems to be lost, but Patrick Spirit makes spongebob rise again to fight an even more powerful Squidward. As Squidwards demon propels him to new heights, the Nine Pickled Patty Demon cloaks spongebob in its energy and prepares him for the fight. END

I honestly thought Patrick helping out Spongebob again even if hes dead was a huge cop out and a lazy plot device. I thought the whole point of having Patrick Star die was to inspire Spongebob to become stronger? What was the point of he was gonna help out again? Read the manga instead... I hate how they made this seinen a shounen.

You did a good job on this.

I really hope that this lives up to the manga. I seriously liked how the Kristina Krab arc and the Boating License arc meet up for his fight against Squidward. It always brings tears to my eyes to see Soongebob drive to his final battle to finally get revenge

Oh man, can't believe they're going to animate the hash slinging slasher arc in this season fuck i'm hyped.

The Spongebob training arc is my fav can't wait for it to be animated. The character development on Spongebob is tremendous as we see he feels like a let down and that everyone thinks he is weak. Mr.Crabs power also get's showcased in this arc as he shows Spongebob many advanced techniques. When Spongebob challenges the Larry Lobster beach gang my heart was racing. I thought no way but then Spongebob unlocked his spirit body link with the spirit of Patrick and managed to defeat some of them. 10/10 arc

For those who are asking why Squidward turned into this was because he made a contract with Plankton and got injected with chum. I blame Mr. Krabs for pushing Squidward so hard at work now he killed Patrick Star without any hesitation. There's also this thing I read in the manga why Squidward went to Chumbucket but I don't really want to make a spoiler so if you're interested, the reason why he left everybody was in chapter 19 Krusty Krab's slave arc.

I really didn’t want to post again, but with all the misconceptions I’ve been reading in the comments I can’t hold my tongue anymore. This is at all of you saying that this season was worse than the previous. Mainly because Spongebob in his Secret formula form(SFS) can stand toe to toe with Chum Enhance Squidward. Yes the decent formula only gives a 10 times boost which pales in comparison to the 50x boost of the chum formula, but everyone’s forgetting 1 thing. During the Patrick’s soul retrieval arc Spongebob and Sandy travelled to the Flying Dutchman’s ship in order to barter to resurrect Path ick. Everyone thought the Dutchman betrayed Spongebob by taking Sandy’s arm and Patrick still being dead, but let’s analyze what the Dutchman said. “Who so ever sets foot on the Flying Dutchman's ship uninvited or otherwise shall become members of his ghostly crew forever and, uh, ever." At first everyone believed this was a warning for the now trespassing Spongebob and Sandy, but in actuality it was the Dutchman fulfilling his end of the deal. In the mini arc where Spongebob and Patrick temporarily joined the Dutchman’s crew it was shown that could both now see and communicate with the dead, this power was taken away during the arcs conclusion, but it’s been confirmed that the Dutchman returned this ability to Spongebob in exchange for Sandy’s arm. So taking this into account it’s more then plausible to believe Spongebob in Secret Formula mode and a ghost contract with Patrick can now fight on equal ground with Squidward. I just want to end by saying while I am a Squidward fan in doesn’t mean that I blindly believe that he is the strongest or that he can’t be beat. Please if anyone reading this is also a true fan, don’t blindly believe what people tell you, always fact check. Peace for now. “I’m a goofy goober yeah”

I'm still annoyed that we never got to see Larry the Lobster fight at full power. Though given he needs to eat baby worms to power up and the Manga and Anime both treat that as akin to eating puppies it's just something we'll have to deal with. Stupid lore change, I liked worms as monsters better, The fight with the Alaskan Bull Worm was awesome! Though we SHOULD be getting the dancing queen pearl fight this season and THAT is right up there with Rock lee Vs Garraa in awesome factor so I'm hyped for that.

It honestly baffles me, after over 10 years of operation, how people have STILL not figured out they should CHECK THE DESCRIPTION for information they want before they comment about how that information isn't shared. Not only does he list the name of the song and link to the video of the cover version he used (which is by Romi), he also SAYS THE NAME OF THE ARTIST DURING THE ENDCARD. This is why people have no faith in humanity. To be fair to you, he doesn't list the anime the song comes from or the original artist of that song, but that is not the version used in this video.

AutismCookie well, many people expected it to follow the arc where Patrick regenerates, but I guess they got rid of that retcon, probably because the presentation didn’t translate well in animation. But I really hope they ignore the filler tournament arc. That was just disappointing. Plus, they just forced in conflict by having Spongebob use the Anchor Arms, which was so out of character for him

When it was SpongeBob versus Squidward it was the same thing as Naruto versus Sasuke

R.I.P Patrick Star Edit: This is like a Naruto vs. Sasuke episode

Honestly I was amazed when Spongebob unlocked his Goofy Spirit transformation and it almost brought me to tears when I realized his Goober (The Bodiless Spirit Used to Control the extra power obtained if you haven't caught up yet) was none other than Patrick PaStar. Though it'll be really hard when Squidward showed his "Unachievable Zen" mode, which represents his inability to achieve full Zen and the anger of being able not to do that to achieve a state of extreme passion and desire that he obtains the power of normal Zen Mode, without the calmness and clear of mind of course which is obviously the key part. Without the clearness of mind he cant read or think as well and Spongebob can and will rely on power alone which gives the new formed Goofy Spongebob an upper hand. I was mad at first when they released the second season as a part 2 of the Evil Squiward arc, but it was truly amazing. Especially when Spongebob achieved his "Soulgazer" state (the red aura you saw in the in the opening) and doubled the power both him and his new Goober carried. *SPOILERS AHEAD* It was truly insane when Squidward revealed he had a chum immunity the entire time and did all the damage on his own terms, it got me so off guard and was way different than the manga, but at least it gave them a good enough reason to kill him instead of killing him without trying to remove the chum like in the manga. I also like how plankton came out and showed Spongebob a taste of his full power and was about to fight Spongebob until Mr.Krabs, who hasnt fought in over 150 years, stopped Plankton from defeating spongebob just enough to make Plankton retreat for the time being. The main points of the story was the actual fight where they showed that the bond carried my Patrick and Spongebob kept Patrick's soul in the earth enough to create a semi-perfect Goofy Spirit Link (with the other half being based on skill to hold the power) and during the heartbreaking moment of U-Zen Squidward beating Spongebob to the ground he decided to preform a perfect soul link only to end up doing the lost art of Soulgazer (which replicates the power of a person and their linked soul and gives it to the other, with the 50% Goofy Spirit Link effectively making spongebob 3x more powerful that before) showing how much potential Spongebob Truly has. The Mini-Arc of Sandy rebuilding herself and attempting to surpass Spongebob because of her grief from being unable to protect people was insane as well and i cant to see her redemption next arc! All in all season 2 gets a 8/10 losing 2 points for the insane plot armor.

mr.bmc I love the sandy redemption arc and I hope that after the hiatus is over the manga will do more of these mini arcs and showcase how the powerful the main cast (Spongebob, Sandy, Squidward) will get and how Patricks spirit will power them up on the battlefield even more. I am loving Squidward as the antagonist. I really want to see Mr.Crabs fight, the hype on him is insane. Feats:Trained Spongebob, Held of mob of angry custamers with out moving his legs. I have a theory too, Plankton is not afraid of Mr.Crabs but he sees him as an equal> And a fight between two people of Plankton and Mr.Crabs caliber would be devastating and would draw public attention to Plankton's evil schemes. I really want to see a flashback to when Mr.Crabs was young. Then we might be able to see a Prime Mermaid Man fight. Anyways I am so hyped of the hiatus to be over.

PandaClaw The only redemption arc I had an issue was with Kevin's because after he revealed he wasn't even a real fighter he barely did any training and became as strong as season 1 Sandy. I hope the anime just skips that.
