The Spitzkoppe in Namibia | Wild camping & hiking

The Spitzkoppe in Namibia | Wild camping & hiking
I spend 2 nights wild camping at one of Namibia's most beautiful locations, the Spitzkoppe. I pitch my tent in the shadows of the Grosse Spitzkoppen and realise that my 2000 Toyota Hilux has developed starter problems. Regardless I push through and continue to explore the activities on offer.
This includes a swim at the Rock pools, an evening hike up Sunset rock for a time lapse, a guided tour of Little Bushman Paradise and the Golden Snake, and a quick hike to the Rock arch. All of this while wondering if my Toyota Hilux will start on the final morning. Join me Nick from Namibia as I show you the best bits on offer at the beautiful Spitzkoppe.

    excellent video. There are many videos about trips to Namibia, both inspiring and entertaining, but they are not often very informative for someone like me who is planning a trip to Namibia. Your video is complete as it is entertaining and makes us visit there, but also actually shows how the campsite and the environment are. continue the great work and safe trip. greetings from Brazil

    thanks so much for your comment. This is exactly the idea for my channel. visit all the African countries, but instead of fancy camera shots etc I want to give my viewers the information so that they can also easily plan their trip and come to Africa. So happy you recognised this👍🙂

    Hey Nick. Awesome video. Myself and Marina (related to you through the de Vos's :-) ) will be there next week all going well. We will probably arrive early afternoon and will spend the full next day there. So shorter than your visit. Given our timing, I don't think we will be able to cover everything you did. Any recommendations as to what we "must do", and maybe what we should give a miss? Cheers, and I hope Frank is feeling better!

  • @NickfrNamibia

    @NickfrNamibia

    know exactly who you are🙂you should have enough time, helps when you are driving around unlike me🙃Sunset the evening you arrive, take a good bottle of red and climb sunset rock, in the morning the bushman paradise rock art, the best part for me was the hike to the golden snake. After that the temperature surges, so maybe do the rock arch which is an easy 30mins. Then find shade, a pool and relax. After all of that if you feel up for it do the chains in the afternoon, its a rock climb, they close at 16:00, you can discuss with the same guide that does the bushman tour. This is not in my video. Repeat sunset, which can almost be enjoyed from anywhere and the stars which are spectacular. Also some good birding if you are into that. Hope your plans work out🤞🏼 and enjoy Namibia, great place to be under the current circumstances

    Hey Nic, so i am in the middle of planning my two week solo trip for March next year, Spitzkoppe is firmly on the list, What I nee d to know is are you allowed to move around the rocks at night as im wanting to do some night photography while im there. Tim

  • @NickfrNamibia

    @NickfrNamibia

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey Tim. Yes you can, as long as you stay in the community camp where I stayed, the basic one. If you stay anywhere else you need to be out before sunset. Once you are inside there are very few limitations to what you can do, keeping your safety in mind and as long as you dont damage the rocks.

  • @NickfrNamibia

    Hey David, this is the spitzkoppe community rest camp, off the road between Usakos and Swakopmund. Depends on what you define as wild. As you can see in the video, it is extremely basic, you have to take everything with you, but there is water, showers and a basic restaurant at the entrance a few km away. There are many little basic shops around spitzkoppe village, but I dont recall seeing the one you mention. Maybe it currently closed because of covid...There are other accommodation available on the area, which offer more ie the tented camp and spitzkoppen lodge

    glad the video is useful Bob. Canvas 2.1mx2.1mx1.5m by Tentco a south african company. They've been around for a while and many local operators use them. Also very well priced. Only issue so far is condensation during the winter when it is too cold to leave one of the flaps open.

    😂 oh you forget i was in the agriculture class🙈😂 step 1: open fuse box and clean all the fuses. When I cranked again it actually made a sound which made me think it is the batt and not the starter. Hike to reception and ask manager Kokie for assistance. We jump start Frank, dankie tog. I drive to the Shell in Karibib and fill up. Car doesnt start, so I now know the batt is finished. They push start me, look for a batt in Karibib, cant find the size so I decided to push on to Whk. Park in front of Pupkewitz lifestyle center, leave the car running, on the older models you can remove the key without switching off😂buy a batt and drive to Arebusch where I was staying. Replace it and still going strong, in a nutshell😂 will be doing Swakopmund vid next🏖
