The Spirituality of St. Thérèse of Lisieux, the Little Flower

St. Thérèse was only 24 years old when she died in 1897, but she quickly became one of the most famous Saints in the world. Pope St. John Paul II declared her a “Doctor of the Church” for her spiritual writings. So what can we learn from this St. Thérèse, the “Little Flower?”
That's the theme of this talk by Joe Heschmeyer, seminarian for the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas and blogger at Shameless Popery (www.shamelesspopery.com), delivered at Christ the King Church on July 26, 2017.

Great blog. My Patron Saint for over 15 years. I so enjoy hearing more about her. The Little flower. I lived on an island named Rose Dhue. Recently just learned I have in my family tree a Watchmaker/ Watch repairer . I prayed so hard on which Patron Saint I wanted when I converted to Catholicism. She appeared to me. Thank you for sharing this. God bless you and peace be with you.

As a point of information @ around 14:35 minutes into this excellent presentation, the Nun in question was not opposing St. Therese's entry into the Lisieux Carmela stated herein, but that of her sister Celine, fearful that the Martin sisters then would number four in the Carmel and that number from the same family may cause issues within the Carmel "structure". St. Therese was already in the Carmel as a Nun at that stage when she was pleading with God for Celine's entry. Of course her prayers were rather miraculously answered. AVE MARIA! Pax Christi.

Hello Joe. Glad I came across your blog. If I could ask a question about justification: is it fair to say that God's grace precedes both faith and works; the Holy Spirit fills us with the theological virtues (faith, hope, charity). Faith is the first movement on our part but charity is ontologically first above faith: since faith without works is dead. Is that accurate? Thank you

both faith and good works come from grace... Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, FAITHFULNESS, gentleness and self-control.
