Thanks Toby. Lots of peoiple wouldn't think it's possible to get close with a precision, but from what I've seen on here, he has the back pickup off a lot of the time, and it's really about how hard you hit the strings

Yeah fantastic job breaking it down! Yeah those "back up" notes are something him and les claypool do allot in their riffs. Especially Xanadu, thats a great example of that.

This is great, thank you so much. I've watched other tutorials but still trying to make out some of the runs. Your encouragement also goes a long way, it's a very human touch. I'm going to practice all this opening now. I agree most of the rest of the song is not as difficult, but there are some runs at the end which you could cover if you felt inclined? Thanks again.

Heh, you went for the ESL version! That album has such good versions of loads of songs. I much prefer the ESL Jacob's Ladder and Free Will too. Brilliant focus on digging in for the tone too. You have to hit hard to sound like Geddy. And you're getting it on a P! Most folks would've gone for a J when talking about a post-Ricky Geddy tone.

I love the ESL versions too, Jeremy. Being honest if I’d had a fretted jazz, I probably would’ve used it, but it was a happy accident I didn’t. I saw a video showing geds tone on MP and the guy got ridiculously close by turning the back pickup off altogether! Which makes sense I suppose, given how weedy a Ric back pickup is Rusty, Geddys bass tech said on a forum that the back pickup on his 72 had a fault and was really thin and weak It’s always a trip to explore this stuff!
