I didn't read Anthony as a 'bad influence'. He was complicated and sick, but his sensibilities and judgement were needed. The young woman had not found her voice and didn't know what stories to tell. He sees through her and he also sees her future. He has a ghostly presence and staying power--like smoke you can never seem to banish. I loved the subtlety and beauty of the doomed relationship---it does creep up on you and it stays for a long while. Not sure I want to see the sequel. This movie was all about casting. Tom Burke nailed his character and Honor had an earnestness the romance required.

I loved reading your interpretation here. The sequel is going to be brilliant, it will be out in the States first before we get to see it. I can't tell you what my connection is, but I don't think we will be disappointed when part two comes out. You may see a clue on my Instagram photo's 🎬 same name as my KZread 🙋‍♀️

I adored it. I distinctly felt, at first, disconnected with the fractured scenes but then it just grabs you culminating into something absolutely heightened.

Oddly immersive, beautiful and captivating. Loved this movie. At first I was so occupied with trying to figure out what's going on or what's it about, but when you realize (or later read about it like me) that it's sort of autobiography assembled from memories, it all makes sense. Disappointed Pattinson dropped out of the sequel but still excited for it.

Just finish watching it, the most stunning cinematic experience in years, the whole time was thinking how lucky I was to have you guys as guidance, Christy’s enthusiasm was valid, it’s a story demands upclose personal resonances to appreciate, 10 outa 10 romance/tragedy 👍🏼 Thanks Christy !

This is a perfect portrayal of codependency. The subtlety makes it so much more realistic. No "meet cute", no "aha moment" where it's obvious how in love they are. insecurity, foolishness, and confusion are portrayed quite well. Does anybody really see the red flags when entering a toxic relationship? I know I didn't.

@@notrealmovies6773 well, losing two hours of your life ain't bad if you're doing something fun, or if you learn domething. The movie wasn't fun and we only learned how bored we could be by a lackluster and tedious piece of film making.

@Digonto Zahid Hi Doganzo Zabib.......No, old son, I don't just see "fun" movies.....but I do demand a certain degree of style, intellectual sophistcation, wit and sophistication to keep me awake and involved., and I have to care about the characters. None of these applied to your "serious" little piece of drek..... I was studying film analysis and studying film when you were soiling your diapers in the sandbox and begging mommy to buy you Power Ranger action figures and praising the devolution of Star Wars as high art. If you call this pretentious little piece tripe a serious piece of film making you need to take a film course or two. Serious and fun are not mutually exclusive-----although to you, I suspect they are.

In short this film just is not interesting. I'm not sure the critics fascination of Hogg (there have been articles written about it that go as far back as 2008), but the public is not a fan, at least of her film work. Here's some good news: there's a sequel coming! One thing is certain: this movie is a bore and you'd have to like Hogg to say otherwise. The dialogue is jaw-droppingly dull. Watch this film and then watch Parasite and tell me which was a better film in 2019. There are a few moments that are authentic but the connective tissue is too weak. Hogg continues to fascinate critics so bully for them that she's doing a sequel. It's like she's trying to be Linklater, but failing miserably. One thing is certain about her next film: critics will love it and the audience won't.

If a masterpiece puts you to sleep ths film certainly qualifies, and if you don't agree go see Once Upon A Time In Hollywood by way of contrast to see a real masterpiece----not a boring little art house film with pretensions of grandeur. ......a snooze fest for intellectual wannabees.

@@otom3487 Oh , Tommy boy-----what are you, one of those pretentious pseudo intellectuals from sbroad with a bug up your ass..... ? Or are you simply a sad little beta male who hates his country and can't appreciate an American masterpiece with good characterization, dynamic action, humor and irony? You are probably awash in estrogen and afraid of the toxic masculinity on the screen, preferring a chick flick like your little "masterpiece." In any case, you might want to consider taking our President's advice and going back to wherever you came from, returning when the bug has been surgically removed from your ass and your head is out of your flabby butt.

@Digonto Zahid No Zigondo, I happen to know that the United States of America is the greatest country on Earth, and that people like you have no appreciation for its founding principles. You are clearly less than educated and less than discerning, with a bug up your ass and a lack of critical judgment. You are seriously misguided old son, but since you are oh so serious, I suggest your rather effete and feckless mindset. I have a suspicion that you are one of those insane progressives spouting the values of socialism. As The Beatles said " If you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao, you ain't gonna make it with anyone anyhow." You probably want to change the Constitution too....."Well, you know, we all want to change your head." See, I respect the English......

I just watched it. I get it, it's a slice of life movie. But her life wasn't that great to see. Even as an ordinary life, it wasn't an interesting ordinary life. Maybe it was too long. The movie commentary as a film student/group seemed very surface level. It was not ground-breaking or innovative, good, but not great.
