The Sound Of Pulsar Stars

Pulsars are highly magnetized neutron stars.
The sounds in this video directly correspond to the radio waves emitted by some of the most luminous pulsars in the night sky as received by some of the largest radio telescopes in the world.

    Chapter 86 in the Qur'an is Called Al-Tariq, meaning Knocker or Pounder, it speaking about a star called the Knocking Star, the Piercing Star, it is amazing how the sounds emitted from these pulsars match perfectly the prescription in the chapter 86.

  • @theastronomer5800

    @theastronomer5800

    3 жыл бұрын

    Perfectly, really. Let's see. Pulsars don't make any sounds, but you can convert the beam of light that we see to make a sounds (like hitting a drum each time you'd see the light from a lighthouse for example - the light in the lighthouse doesn't make a sound!). The Quran talks of a bright or piercing star (note the singular - but there are millions of pulsars just in our galaxy) visible at a specific time (pulsars are visible day and night). They are also not bright, not visible to the eye. Radio pulsars are some of the dimmest things in the universe, since radio waves have the lowest energies. So, all these properties of the pulsar contradict every description in the Quran, so how does it match "perfectly"??? If you read the tafsir scholars like Ibn Abbas, al-Jalalayn or Ibn Kathir they all talk of something that was visible in the night sky with the eye, mentioning the planet Saturn, the star cluster Pleiades and of course shooting stars. To say that this verse talks about invisible stars that don't make a sound is quite the stretch of imagination! Why not apply the verse to a supernova for example? That's a super bright star at least, and it send out shock waves (so knocking). I don't understand why Muslims take super vague verses and try to fit them to something completely different that contradicts what the Quran describes.

    @@muslimresearcher6806 I find it interesting that when I bring up an issue in the Quran Muslims tell me to read the tafsirs, hadiths etc. When I do read them and they also have an issue, they suddenly are of no use the Muslim claims. You didn't address any of the actual 21st century points I brought up, that the Quran is talking of a single stars visible at a certain point in the day. The scholars make it very clear that this was to be visible during a certain time, do you deny that? al-Jalalayn: al-tāriq actually denotes any thing that comes by NIGHT, including stars, because they come out at night Ibn Kathir: The star has been named Tariq because it is ONLY seen at NIGHT and it is hidden during the day So, how can this correspond to something that we can see any at any time, like pulsars? And again, there are many pulsars but the Quran talks of s star, not stars. So, I do not see how the Quran could be describing this (and of course there is no noise coming from this light beam) as 3 things don't agree with the Quran, even if you don't want to go with brightness which would make it 4. If a Christian for example tried to explain a verse from the Bible which had 3-4 contradictory things to something you observe, what would you tell them, would you think they have a good point and are probably right?

    @@theastronomer5800 You CLEARLY don't know what Tariq means, Tariq means the Knocker, THE FRICKING KNOCKER, knock knock, that is the sound emittating from the stars? Allah said it is a Tariq as we translated it to sound, SOUND I'm saying, he was referring to the sound, so that when the radio waves are translated to sound, it would prove two things: 1. There was no way for Muhammad PBUH to know this obviously. 2. You need literally High end technology and also translate radio waves to sound. And I do not know who even tf told you to go look into old tafseers instead of the new ones. Also, you didn't even bring up any hadiths?

And you are interpreting it to fit your own assumptions. An answer without a valid explanation is invalid. Like a kid in a maths test who writes the correct answer yet doesn't show his work as to how he arrived at the numbers, will still get a zero. Even a stopped clock shows the right time twice a day. @@nihar1987 Here is the explanation, and Similar thing is mentioned in Quran, Now if you listen to the sound of Pulsar star from beginning of the video, it sounds like someone is striking or knocking something. The Verse in Quran says ( وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلطَّارِقِ ) translation (By the sky and the night comer), now if we see the meaning of the words, the word ( وَٱلطَّارِقِ ) which means the night comer, is drived from the verb ( يطرق ) meaning ( to strike or knock excessively causing a noise to happen ), which is similar to the sound of the star. Now these stars are the brightest, if you read forward in Quran, it says ( وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلطَّارِقُ ) meaning ( And what can make you know what is the night comer?) The next verse says ( ٱلنَّجۡمُ ٱلثَّاقِبُ ) meaning ( It is the piercing(bright) star ), Quran also mentions that this is a bright star. SUBHANALLAH We came to know about this star's brightness and sound of pulsar star a few years ago using the most advanced tecnology, but it is mentioned in Quran 1400 years back, when there was no advanced technology. No. But, you can hit a drum each time you see the light, and that's what is done here :) Read the tafsirs on the verse, they all talks of a single star (not plural - there are many pulsars) that is visible at a specific time (pulsars we can see day and night). None of the tafsir scholars mention any knocking of the star either of course, they and the verses simply talks of a morning star, a night comer, a piercing star.

If Thariq means the people who knock the door, it doesnt make any sense, and automatically ruin the meaning of the surat its self. But if you ready the surat as a whole, you will know that it means the piercing star. ( third ayat) Please read as a whole surat, before you got the wrong meaning.

I wonder if any artists have used that sound in a musical piece? I also wonder if it's possible for a neutron star to spin itself apart. If it's possible to get one going so fast that centrifugal force overcomes gravity and tears the star apart. I bet it would be loud.

    Probably not, at least not completely. Keep in mind that the core is the densest part of the pulsar and that the the outer part of the sphere is spinning faster than the core, just like how the closer to the middle of a carousel you stand the less force you feel. The outermost layers could probably rip apart were the mass low enough and the speed high enough but the ripped apart remnants would likely orbit the pulsar core and as the core is spinning slower, they would eventually slow down enough to fall back into the core, adding mass back to the pulsar. Idk though, I’m just some random dude online that likes space.

  • @theastronomer5800

    No, it's not actually. So, all these properties of the pulsar contradict every description in the Quran.

    @@artaesthetics06 I can convert colour into sound, does that mean that colour makes sound? The Quran is clear that the star is simply a night comer (hence the name...) and visible at night as the tafsir scholars explain, but pulsars are visible during any time so how does that agree with the Quran? The Quran never says that the star makes a sound, I don't understand why you are going against the explanation of this verse? Muslims ALWAYS tell me to read the tafsirs and sahih hadiths to understand the Quran: Ibn Kahir: "The star has been named Tariq because it is only seen at night and it is hidden during the day.'' His view is supported by what has been mentioned in the authentic Hadith that prohibits a man to come to his family Taruq. This means that he comes to them unexpectedly at nighttime. Al-Jalalayn: And what will tell you what the night-visitor is?... The piercing, the brilliant, because of its piercing the darkness with its light, star!

    Many Muslims say this, but that's because they have not looked carefully into their own sources or bothered to learn a bit of basic science of pulsars. The surah is called At-Tariq because the star comes at night, like a man from the Tariq family: Ibn Kathir says ""The star has been named Tariq because it is ONLY SEEN AT NIGHT AND IT IS HIDDEN DURING THE DAY.'' His view is supported by what has been mentioned in the AUTHENTIC Hadith that prohibits a man to come to his family Taruq." Pulsars don't come/are not visible at night only - they are visible day and night. If you read the other tafsir scholars they point to objects visible at night, why? Don't these great scholars understand the meaning of the Quran and its clear Arabic? As for the science, pulsars DO NOT make any sounds. What you hear in these videos is the transformation of the intensity of the radio beam into sound (data sonificaton) but the beam itself makes no noise and if you were in the rotating frame of the pulsar the intensity would be constant. The stars were named pulsars because of the pulsation of the light intensity, not because they made sound pulses. You can convert the light from a lighthouse into sound, you can convert colour intensity into sound - does that mean that they make a sound?

None of the tafsir scholars mention any knocking of the star either of course, they and the verses simply talk of a morning star, a night comer, a piercing star. Verse 22- Out of both (waters)come forth pearls and coral. Verse 23- Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny? Atlantic and Pacific sea meet each other but they never cross each other! Who knew these scientific discoveries 1400 years ago???? Muhammed عليه وسلم that didn’t knew how to read and how to write! Quran is word of Allah عز وجل! He is the only God, theres no God but him and Muhammed is his messenger! do you know that bees have two stomachs? Allah عز وجل said in Quran El-Kerim Chaper 16, verse 69(surah Nahl, the bee): “and feed from ˹the flower of˺ any fruit ˹you please˺ and follow the ways your Lord has made easy for you.” From their bellies comes forth liquid of varying colours, in which there is healing for people. Surely in this is a sign for those who reflect.” Why there is said “from their bellies” and not from their bellie? Science have found in rencent years thay bees has two stomachs! Don’t be blind when you can see! Don’t be deaf when you can hear! Don’t be stupid when you can think! Indeed your Lord is Allah Who created the heavens and the earth in six Days,1 then established Himself on the Throne. He makes the day and night overlap in rapid succession. He created the sun, the moon, and the stars-all subjected by His command. The creation and the command belong to Him ˹alone˺. Blessed is Allah-Lord of all worlds! Chpter 7, verse 54 (surah A’raf)

    Nothing to do with the Quran my friend. The stars don't make any noise, we only detect a light beam. It's like turning a flashlight on-off-on-off... do you hear anything? No. But, you can hit a drum each time you see the light, and that's what is done here, you can convert the light intensity curve through an amplifier to make a sound that corresponds to the peaks :) Read the verses and tafsirs on the verse please. You'll see that they all talk of a single star (not plural - but there are many pulsars) that is visible at a specific time (pulsars we can see day and night). None of the tafsir scholars mention any knocking of the star either of course, they and the verses simply talk of a morning star, a night comer, a piercing star. If it was so clear in the Quran, why hasn't a single Muslim scientist ever mentioned such a thing? Why only long after the were discovered, Muslims take information which they do not understand (like the fact that these star don't make noise to start with!) and want to say that it's in the Quran?

    For that last one there has to be a pretty close limit on how far out the magnetic field can go before it is rotating at the speed of light. If the magnetic field would tend to be larger than that diameter, what happens to it as it reaches that light-speed distance from the star? And don't magnetic fields tend to lag a little, anyway? If so, as fast as this star is rotating, this field must be wrapped around the star god knows how many times.

  • @JRexRegis

    @JRexRegis

    2 жыл бұрын

    The field would indeed begin to lag. Just like how rotating black holes create gravitational waves, which are essentially the gravity of the body coalescing into bands of force because of the light speed limit, the magnetic field would coalesce into magnetic waves that radiate outwards. Sadly, magnetic energy is a lot quicker to disperse and a lot less energetic than gravity, meaning we can't detect these waves from our planet.

    @@JRexRegis Sounds good -- at least to the layman that I am. BTW, I'm still skeptical about "gravity waves". I think "dark matter" and "dark energy" are a crock, too.

  • @JRexRegis

    @JRexRegis

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@Astrobrant2 Gravity waves have actually been detected, like, using a real-life device. The facility is called LIGO, and it's basically a series of mirrors that reflect two lasers. A passing gravity wave deforms the mirrors on a large scale, which causes the laser to deflect differently. Then, you can measure the two lasers and determine exactly where the wave was coming from, how far away the source was and potentially also the mass of the source. It works like this: Imagine you put some paper on a pond and then threw a stone in at the other end. The ripples would travel across the pond and reach the scraps of paper at different times, and if you note the exact time and strength of the disturbance, you can determine where the stone was tossed in. As for dark matter, part of me says it's just an error in our calculations. Dark energy has to exist however, but it's so vague since it's essentially just a term for an unknown force that causes the universe to expand.

    With the slower pulsar sounds, a click- or beat-like sound is from a completed rotation. The faster ones finish rotations so many times so quickly that those "beats" start to sound like a tone or note. The faster a pulsar is, the higher the pitch you hear, and the higher frequency the produced sound is. See this video if you want to know more about extremely fast beats becoming sound frequencies: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mmef06SRYc2dlps.html
