I believe it's a warning bark when something is out of the ordinary. That's why it's not loud - it's meant to be heard by other foxes as a warning. This is as far as i understand from another fox owner.

The woof was territorial to the man outside the enclosure and then the whine was for his human, sort of telling him: Dont you see the strange man? I dont trust him!

Yes, much more so that the sound I'm looking to find here on KZread. I live in the suburbs, just on the boundary line between the city of Huntington & county of Cabell, here in western West Virginia, USA. Whilst smoking the proverbial day's last cigarette, about 4 AM or thereabouts, my flashlight startled a night critter, prancing along the snowy yard, across the stree, at roadside. He scurried away, quickly, headed in same direction & w/o making a sound. His movements were smooth & fast. Before I could even finished the one cigarette, I heard -- "YAP! YAP, YAP!"-YAPPING, as I often hear from my neighbors small dogs. Fearing they might have found themselves in danger, I shined my flashlight around, but did't see anything. Then, more "YAP! YAP-YAPPING" -- but, this time, sounding as if BEHIND the houses across the street. THEN, suddenly, there he was -- RACING DOWN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET, ""YAP!" ... "YAP, YAP"... YAPPING occasionally, as he raced away. All I could see was a light-haired, fluffy-tailed, dog-sized critter. His tracks, in the slushy snow, were indistinct. And that's how I came to be HERE. Foxes have such a soft bark but it is much more of warning than with dogs. Like: "Something strange and scary! Watch out!"

Ancient wolves (dog ancestors) used to do the same until domestication, we bred them to bark instead of howling as communication. Maybe because it's a similar sound to our voices?

Yup, that's what foxes can do. Barking with closed mouth :) Very quite, but it's still barking :D

Dogs can bark with their mouths closed if they have to. My dogs have barked while holding onto a toy during tug-of-war or playing keep away with a ball, and never dropping their toy.

Dingoes don’t bark.

He was growling at the guy at first, stranger danger. Then once he was up to the fence, the fox was cooing like a happy baby. ❤️

I honestly did not expect that bark. I've always adored the beauty of red foxes (unfortunately, too many sheeple do as well. STOP THE FUR INDUSTRY!!!), that bark was very K9. I don't know what I expected but it wasn't that. Intersting. Thank you again for these videos. 'Lisa and Alf are absolutely beautiful and much love as always.

Vasilisa is allergic to chicken. She eats quails and beef meat from her puppyhood. Moreover, that's a fox rescued from a fur farm. They don't understand the sounds from nature.

Funny Foxy Pride я тут в интернете посмотрела видео с лисьим лаем, они настолько по разному лают! И в то же же время сходство есть , но Асюня самая необычная, у неё более глухой лай и поэтому больше на собачий похож.)

Там только нора, но в ней драгоценный огненный Альфик. 💓 Он для Василисы дороже любых ископаемых.

Самцы громко лают. Даже страшно c отпугивающей ноткой, я бы сказала. Этот приглушенный звук не привлекает внимания, но способен предупредить щенков об опасности. Заметили, как быстро Альф смылся в домик? 😉

@@ururu_tv Собачки, к примеру, тоже не разгаданы, кошки - самые опасные хищники для первобытных людей - вообще тёмная антиматерия. А изучение вблизи лисиц - это самые смелые шаги на пути истины, не для лести, просто от того, что узнаю у вас. возможно в каких-нибудь будущих межгалактических библиотеках знаний ваши Вася, Рик и Альфик станут круче банальных белок со стрелками. У меня даже есть мечта их язык перевести с помощью машинного обучения, только не смейтесь, правда очень интересно
