I believe Jason knows that Quenton has finally grown up & matured & she will nowvhelp restore the good name of the family and he can get on with his life. All his hard work has been successful. I don't see romance, I see a new understanding between them but no romance. I think Jason has seen Quenton as the last opportunity for the family to amount to something again. I LOVE THIS FILM! I believe it is much deeper than most see it. Thanks so much, soundandfury8, for posting it!
Nothing against W. Faulkner's novel, but I prefer this movie . Although, I still recommend reading the book. Thanks for posting.
The first time I have ever seen Yul Brynner with hair!
yul brynner is so gorgeous as Jason
Thank you so much. I was an English major and never remembered anything, so when studying for the ELA test to teach high school English, I watched this with renewed interest. Thanks!
All of the lead actors turned in noteworthy performances, but Margaret Leighton turned in a particularly brilliant one. She had such sadness in her eyes. I felt so much compassion for her character. I feel that she was sad in real life too. She left us way too early at the age of 53. God bless her memory.
thank you so much for posting this. i really enjoyed it! Yul is brilliant, and so is Joanne. thanks!
William Faulkner might have been very talented but the movie is much better, thank you for posting it, i just wish i could buy it.
this is so typical.. adapting such a complex novel into movie romance , but i like it haha
I feel that the ending indicates that quinton has finally realised that the feelings of hatred that she thought she had for jason is actually love and she is going to do something about it
I liked this film, very much.
Thanks a lot for providing that
'you''d have come to the end of the money, eventually...but... I'd have gone on forever..' Quentin finally gets the drift...
So happy you shared . Great
Thanks for uploading. Just discovered it. Strange adaption of Faulkner´s genius novel.
It's the old school version of "tough love". Some of it has merit, but in that day the emotionally abusive overtones were not recognized as such. It was a bootstrapping generation. Pick yourself up by your bootstraps. Which isn't a bad concept. Remember that a few decades prior during the depression, it was the only the strong who survived. Or the weak who lived off the strong. And they played that to the hilt in this movie.
Sorry, but some of you haven't a clue. Jason in this movie is a hero. He is the one who holds the family together. He is intent on bringing them from off their knees and saving them. Especially young Quentin, whom he loves. But the movie bears little resemblance to the book. Like Hollywood always does, they don't care how much they mess up an author's work. I like the movie, though, because of Yul Brynner.

Uh, have no idea what the intent was, but sorry, he did come off as a complete asshole. He kept stating that he wanted the family to regain their respect, and then HE spends all of his time disrespecting them, reminding them of their flaws at every turn, and generally walking all over them. When you treat people like that they end up with low self esteem, anger, hostility, self-loathing etc. all of which makes it pretty impossible for the person to go out into society and gain respect from their peers around them. You can't brow beat someone and then expect them to have confidence and poise in society. There is more to saving someone than money, but like so many of this character's ilk, they see only cold cash as the "saving grace" to every single detail in life.
I hear girl 💯 send him packing I love this movie so much ❤😍🥰
in the book he is her blood related uncle and he hates her in the novel Here he loves her
They're not blood-relatives in the film so it's not incest...^^wise adaptation
@pegcage i agree with you , but i dont see how everyone cant see hes inlove with her, i dont think he meant to fall inlove with her, he just wanted her to survive her family and scandelous birth, but like her, no one really loves him either, they just use him to take care of them.
thx very much, but do u have the kissing scene? part 11?
Considering how many differences between the books and the film, why wouldn't they just make an original film exploiting the growth of a girl to a woman with maybe some similarity in the set up with the books? Different title, different names, enrich the story line and throw in the irresistible yet immoral attraction between a step-uncle and a girl. I'm sure it would have been a really huge hit as long as Yul Brynner was in it.
@ccrich100 I agree I don't think he hates them if he did he would wash his hands of the whole bunch. I feel sorry for Quinten , and I feel sorry for Jason, but I feel the sorriest for the poor housekeeper!!! She has to deal with them all. If the watcher pays attention, Jason is not affectionate with Quinten , I do think he 's inlove with her but he just wanted her to be better then the rest of her family.
I tried to read the book and I just couldn't follow the story line. I am hoping the movie is better.
She’s supposed to be 17 and looks 30 at least.😂
Dove trovo la versione italiana?
so what happens in the book? He is not really her blood related uncle, is that how it is in the book too? You rather get the idea that they are attracted to each other here.

This film does not resemble the novel much at all. In the book, Jason is a bitter, nasty man who always hated Caddy and he hates her daughter too. Miss Quentin ends up leaving with the guy and taking the money.
then did they fell in love, didnt?

Yes they did
This is a celluloid atrocity! It's even worse than the one made and called"The Brothers Karamazov" , in which, coincidentally, Yul also starred.
This film is really far from the original book. The kissing, the end of it... I did not like the way they put Benji as a "bad guy", Benji was craying all the time... Well it was a good adaption of Faulkner's book, but not even close to what the book made me feel...
This movie adaptation sucks..They should have left Faulkner’s novel alone.
Somewhat disappointing ending... I have just spent the best part of 2 hours waiting for baldie Brynner to take his stupid Bing Crosby wig off and he never did. Must have been superglued on. As deep south sweaty underwear melodramas go this was no worse than most.
