While I was a graduate student, I worked for Morris Levy, the guy upon whom Hesh's character is based. Levy owned Roulette Records, bankrolled Sugar Hill Records, and owned the record store chain, Strawberries Records, which had 81 stores in New England. At one time he had owned Birdland, the jazz club in New York. For one day every summer, he would close all of his record stores, and throw a huge bash for all of his employees at his horse farm in upstate Ghent, New York. This is supposed to be that place.
