5:03 that's from a separate tech demo at the same show, showing the Mega Drive's graphics capabilities set to various Sega music, including early versions of Sonic 1 music, which was reused as some sort of (possibly store?) demo for the Teradrive

Actually recently we found out the Sonic and Madonna screen isnt from the game itself. But a demo that include no actual gameplay, just some screens of games running on the console (this image being one of them) I really should find it, i remember seeing the full thing (though you arent missing actually much other than seeing the background move a bit)

Someone has already mentioned that the initial concept for the game was a world of nightmares but I want to add on to that. Have you ever seen that concept art of Eggman holding a pillow while wearing pink and green pajamas? Maybe that was made around that time period which can make a lot more sense why he looked like that as Eggman was also one of the original character designs Ohshima made alongside Sonic for the internal company contest for the next SEGA mascot. As for the new scans of this build, the sign is finally now legible enough that we can now see it says something like “NEVER...EEN” There was speculation that I was reading over on the Sonic Retro forums (specifically the thread titled “New Sonic 1 Alpha Screens Discovered” around pages 17-18) that there could be two possibilities on what it could say. The first is NEVERSEEN as this was the first time the public got to see Sonic so it was never before seen. The second is NEVERGREEN as in the possible original name of the zone. They brought up the point that there is a place called Never Lake in Sonic CD where Little Planet floats above so it can line up with that.

we might find it soon because tones of other versions have been found of sonic games such as the sonic 2 prototypes people have found near their houses. so maybe if we are lucky this could be the next to be found :0

I like how in one of the screen shots it say if Sonic will be the new mascot over Alex Kidd mean while we're in 2021 and now Sonic is a gaming icon

I find the unused monster-like/alien-like enemies and Naoto Ohshima's scrapped levels interesting (i hope someday they would be used)

I may or may not know where to actually possibly find this build! So about a year and a half ago I was talking with my dad and he told me about this Flower shop that used to be an Arcade in the 90's and at around 1990 he actually played the TTS (Tokyo Toy Show) build of Sonic the Hedgehog! They may have the cabinet still around but its also likely that it was destroyed or just broke.

But I'd like to know if your dad can remember some stuff from the demo. Like what was it like? Were there multiple levels? Were there other dreamniks (my personal name for the weird enemies) apart from the rock guy? Was there other landmarks (things like the You Are Welcome sign)? Did bosses exist? And most of all... how many bytes was it? Hope you can answer, and have a good day!

The clouds and sky colour of this primitive Green HIll is the same as we can see on special stage from final game.

I think that the japanese community are the ones with the highest chances of finding this demo, so if we want to find it, we need to contact them and tell them about this.

My theory is that in early versions of Sonic, you could jump and then would have to manually roll, either by pressing the jump button a second time or by pressing down. This was later removed because there’s no reason to jump without rolling.

The composer of the original games OST released some demo tracks that I used in the video. Doesnt confirm thats how they sounded in game, but could be the next closest thing!

The only question would be what would happen if that had been the final result.....

5:03 That's not Madonna, that's Sonic's Human Girlfriend that they were going to give him before scrapping her. It was meant to be a Roger Rabbit-Jessica Rabbit type of relationship before they scrapped her.

a higher quality scan of the magazine it was from was recently released, it says "YOU ARE WELCOME NEVE###EN" (the hashtags are characters that sonic is blocking)

@@Utfam_202 Maybe. If you pop a copy of Sonic in your Genesis and just let it run you'll get a loop briefly showing Sonic running through a few of the levels. That's probably what remains of that version

Well it does have a playable level in the rom/.lvl file it just doesn't load when you press start due to it taking up to much memory (it made me laugh my ass of when I found the error back in the 90's)

Sega has it, you guys are stupid if you haven’t seen, they are hinting to it in sonic movie 1s credits. The 16 bit green hill he runs through at the beginning of the credits is the one in the game from this version.

I knew part of the story of how “Sega of America” made the changes to the “first Sonic”. But this is sad 😢, new & cold 🥶. I hope they find it, thought they had it, but this is more sad than what I already knew! (some know Madonna & “sega of America’s” changes, but not this) Does “sega of Japan” still have a grudge against us for this??? Or did things change??? Are there any or how many grudges???… Do I appear to notice this trend, or am I paranoid?!?!

tokyo toy actually has an prototype before it, its been discoverd, its the febuary 1990, its just a bunch of glitched sprites and a blue screen, nothing special, the febuary 1990 proto is earliar than tokyo toy show, probably the alpha for tokyo toy
