The Solar, Lunar and Jewish Calendar Systems

The solar and lunar calendars each have their strengths. This segment from Dr. David Neiman's series, "Cradles of Civilization" discusses the method of reconciliation between these two systems and the adjustments made to the lunar system in the Jewish calendar.

    ABSOLUTELY CORRECT! The JEWISH RELIGION CALENDAR is the Babylonian Calendar with some alterations. BUT IT IS NOT THE CALENDAR THAT ANYONE CAN FIND IN SCRIPTURE.

    The leap years in the 19 year cycle (the machzor ha'katan) are the 3, 6, 8, 11, 14, 17, 19 years and NOT the 16th year, as you said.

    The Hindu calendar is also a luni solar calendar, with additional months (leap month) once every 33 months or so. And it follows the 19 year cycle too!

    What does he mean "we ADDED a 7 day week which is invariable"? Did they add a week sometime?

  • @corydanielwolf5684

    @corydanielwolf5684

    4 жыл бұрын

    They added the reoccurring seven day week, instead of just adhering to on the seventh day rest, six days work, seventh day rest. So if the week is broken by a new Moon and you get to go to that new moon service (or not) the next first day of work is the day after that. As you can see nobody has new moon services and thus we can tell the fruit is bad of a seven day repetitive week. If time is a reflection of God's life, then we must keep it derogatory of the requests and honor he has. Repentance is something I think of when pondering upon the new moon service. So repent thy time to the Lord. Amen.

    I have two nitpicky points. He said EXACT coincidence every 19 years. Firstly, Coincidence implies almost randomly but this being regular it's not an actual coincidence. Secondly, I just double-checked and it's remarkably close but not exact. I was born in 18 March 1992 which corresponds to 13 Adár II but 13 Adár II 19 years later actually corresponds to 19 March 2011, not 18. Both were just nitpicks that somebody probably pointed out already but I was to lazy to check I also have a question. According to Wikipedia the 13 month years have two Adárs and Adár I being the actual extra and all holidays and celebrations in Adár are held on Adár II. As I mentioned I was born on 13 Adár II so during the regular 12 month years I'd celebrate on 13 Adár. But what if I had a friend that had been born on 13 Adár I? Would we have seperate birthdays in the 13 month years but celebrate together in the 12 month years or is it solved some other way? Great video by the way and even though I am not Jewish I kind of think the Hebrew calendar is better than the Gregorian one.

    Coincidence does not mean by chance. It means that two things coincide, meaning occur in the same place or time. When two triangles coincide in geometry, this means that either one can covers the other completely. The Jewish and Gregorian calendars do not coincide perfectly every 19 years, but closely. This means that every now and then they'll be off by a day. The correction of 7 leap years every 19 year cycle is actually a Babylonian invention, and is brilliant, because 7/19 is the best rational approximation (using continued fractions) for the difference between the lunar and solar years up to a denominator of 19 and actually quite a bit larger. This reflects the measurements of the solar year to the best of the Babylonian astronomy.

    Why doesn’t the calendar start in March. Rather than Rosh hashana Also do the Jews believe this is how God would do it rather than retroactively decide if the moon adding months a “off” balanced method? Seems the seconds added to the days at the end of the years make it even weirder? Is there a better way they found to make the math more balanced like just have days with more seconds each day??

    This hurts the brain but basically it means using the modern calender to determine the Sabbath is wrong? You basically need to use the sun and the moon for a correct keeping of the Sabbath. So basically every faith is wrong? Gosh I wish I was smarter. Thank you for the video. You should have more likes because this is rather important.

    You aren't dumb. What we are taught is not what defines us. What we do is what Jesus cares about. He wants us to follow his ways even though we might be raised to follow the pagan versions of his kingdom. If we draw closer to him by making an effort to be apart of his kingdom, he will bless us and keep us and make his face to shine upon us. Numbers 11... So you can consider yourself smart because you make the right decisions.

    Look. If you want to plan a journey do it around full moon. In ancient times would you want a rabbi to fall down a hole in a path because there's no bright moon to light the way? Always meet on a full moon. It's practical, not mystic. You can walk day and night on a clear moonlit night. It's efficient.

    Maybe because the Roman calendar, the Julian, was dumped by the end of the 1700s for the Gregorian calendar, as in Pope Gregory, which is Christian, and that might be why.

    @@TheRadioAteMyTV One big mistake in your writing. The Roman Catholics are not Christians. They are R.C. If they were Christians, they would not have their own bible, which has changed the 10 commandments. They would not have changed a few other things, which are not as important as changing the commandments. They would not have a pope who is infallible. For no man is infallible, except Jesus. They also would not have selected this pope, for he isn't even Catholic. He's a jesuit. Read their before your conclusion on this matter. So, basically what I'm saying, and not go in into greater detail is this. The R.C. system is the most pagan system to use the word church. They are based upon pagan rituals, and is called the whore of Babylon in th bible. There is so much more that Catholics do not know that they are being fooled, lied to, and damned if they stay in that system. Don't get upset, just do some reseach. Just like the Islamic people are being duped, but aren't even allowed to even question their leaders, who are liars.
