Suffer Little Children is about the murders of children in England….(from Wikipedia)…The Moors murders were carried out by Ian Brady and Myra Hindley between July 1963 and October 1965, in and around Manchester, England. The victims were five children-Pauline Reade, John Kilbride, Keith Bennett, Lesley Ann Downey, and Edward Evans-aged between 10 and 17, at least four of whom were sexually assaulted. The bodies of two of the victims were discovered in 1965, in graves dug on Saddleworth Moor; a third grave was discovered there in 1987, more than twenty years after Brady and Hindley's trial. Bennett's body is also thought to be buried there, but despite repeated searches it remains undiscovered. There was some backlash (understandably so) from the people affected when this song came out.

True the British press whipped up a little backlash from some of the murdered children’s parent, but once she’d actually heard it Lesley Ann Downey’s mother publicly supported the song saying she believed it was sincere and well intentioned and not just sensationalist. At the time of the murders, Morrissey would have been a child the same age in the same area. Like many children, he would thought it could easily have been him next.

You HAVE to listen to more of the Smiths, I'd recommend Hatful of Hollow. It has a lot of B-Sides and different recordings of songs from this album, but it sounds like one of their major albums (their best lp in my opinion). I can tell you'll love the production from that album. Although I really couldn't tell you which This Charming Man version I like better, it's a good example of the differences from their self titled production to their later years.

Perfect transition between this album & The Queen Is Dead, personally it made me understand & appreciate both of those albums even more. Their fourth & last studio album (Strangeways, Here We Come) gets a lot of shit from people because it's a bit more pop-oriented, but I still recommend it in a heartbeat. Even though it's definitely a step down from the first three albums as a whole, it still has its share of absolute bangers scattered through it. Morrissey's solo career ranges from underwhelming to almost-as-good-as-the-Smiths, but his first solo album, Viva Hate, is near-universally regarded as the best of his post-Smiths work. To me, is way more natural to enjoy this album better than The Queen Is Dead, specially if is a first contact with the band. The first album has more of Marr's bright guitar lines, the same with Andy's bass, easy forward beats and great lyrics and singing by Morrissey, pretty much on the same wavelength of broken heartness. My first contact with The Smiths was through There Is A Light... 'bout ten years ago, and by picking some songs of the album it came from, The Queen Is Dead, I felt it was... tiring. However, years later, having a more intimate knowledge and relationship with the band, knowing this first album by heart, I picked The Queen Is Dead for a listen, and I was mesmerized. That feeling of tiredness became pure dread. The jangly guitars give way to synthesized guitars, moody ambiance, more diversity in the approach of the rythm section, Rourke with real game in his fingers carrying most of the songs and the Morrissey side becoming more acid, satirical and fatalist. All this to say: The Smiths (1984) is a shower, but The Queen Is Dead is a grower.

Chill buddy lol
Can you add on your list the 1st killing joke album self titled?
I feel like you pick up more well than other reactors on lyrics first listen and love good storytelling in albums, so I think you should check out some of The Mountain Goats' discography, specifically suggest their first album that wasn't recorded on a boombox (though those are great as well, All Hail West Texas!) which was 2003's Tallahassee. It's definitely one of the best showcases of John Darnielle's unique voice, songwriting and storytelling ability, how conceptual and cohesive his records can be packed with a lot of emotion and tasteful instrumentation. Can't recommend enough!
I highly recommend reacting to Bowie's Station to Station next. It's WILDLY different from Ziggy but I know you're a sucker for guitars which that album has a lot
Reel Around the Fountain and Suffer Little Children are two of the best Smiths songs imo
This is album is almost perfect You know what is perfect? These Recs: Built to spill: perfect from now on Spiritualized: ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space Sigur ros: ()
This makes me want to put on a cardigan and I don't even own a cardigan is comic gold.
The Hand that Rocks the cradle is a very odd and dark lyric; why didn’t he know the name of the child? Is it his?
For as much as I like Reel Around the Fountain or Still Ill, the most memorable song of the album has to be Miserable Lie It just starts out so chill you know, not unlike the album so far. But then it gets rowdy and the mood changes, suddenly it becomes a punky jam…. but then Morrissey *literally* violates the listener with that wack ass falsetto and the song is ruined and so is your day
Hey Smags, I still think you should really check out Waiting to Spill by The Backseat Lovers. 10/10 album. Perfect for November or January
And now onto the best: Meat Is Murder :)
Please listen to Ladies And Gentlemen We’re Floating In Space by Spiritualized
God i fucking love this album
I'd recommend the self titled debut album by Suede (or The London Suede as they were known in the U.S.) as an album listen. Shades of the Smiths, Bowie and T-Rex.
Waiting for that Meat is Murder reaction/review
AMAZING ALBUM, COULD BE GET MORE BOWIE IN THE FUTURE??
It may come out of left field for a recommendation, but you should really listen to Led Zeppelin 4. I think it’d be right up your alley. Been loving your videos and keep it up.

You gotta try "O" by damien rice
Love the videos! A few recommendations: Process - Sampha (experimental r&b, great production) Nurture - Porter Robinson (light summer electric with fun production) Koi No Yokan or White Pony - Deftones (very heavy, sexier and heavier radiohead imo) Hypochondriac - Brakence (very experimental emo rap, glitch pop)

Seconded on deftones
Shout out to Andy Rourke's bass, Every. Single. Track.
Try Luna "Penthouse". 1996 album by Galaxie 500 frontman Dean Wareham. Nobody does Luna . Give it a go
as we move into depression season smags I really need some emo music... either black parade or perhaps some modern baseball
Actually, I've got one that's perfect. XTC - Skylarking.
oh shiz
"morrissey is just a submissive boy" is crazy 💀
The Smiths came out hard - this self titled album is prpbably one of the best albums ever. Morriseys voice is unique but the guitar play of a very young Johnny Marr is unbeatable - he later worked together with Matt Johnson in The The adding even more quality to an amazing band. Try listening to The The or go Danish and listen to Gangway you'll recognize the influence

Marr and Andy Rorke are outshined in The Queen Is Dead, and Morrisey lyrics dont carry the same weith as before. Its a much more acessible album.

@@johnlaujensen5022 People often forget how much darker is the first album compared to the later ones, the history of loss the inocence to lust and driving your life to disaster and misery. Songs considered """sad"""" like I Know Its Over and The Last Night I Dreamt are exactly the kind of garbage that the mass public like to cry, and doesent hold a candle to more subtle and complex songs like Pretty Girls Make Graves and Suffer Little Children
