This song hits in ways unexplainable. I was stuck in a business that was torturing me. I was hemorrhaging money and working over 75 hours a week like a madman. I’d play this song in the last 6 weeks really getting in on the words. Then, it happened, I got out and my life has been so rewarding since.

Sorry, but there is no reason - life is simply a series of random events. All you can do is hope that it goes reasonably well - don't expect too much. I'm 64 and suffered anxiety badly when I was 40-50. I'm out of it now...for now!

After 3 years of suffering of anxiety and mild depression I found this song and cried really fucking bad, because I couldn't believe I would identify so much with a song. A few months after, an angel, a lovely girl appeared in my life and filled me with so much love and affection. After all, thanks god, for just giving me what I wanted. Dont worry people, everything comes at one point, we just have have to handle the suffering the best we can, until that something arrives.

the only things that worked from me was sitting with my emotions. I do this an hour before sleeping and an hour upon waking. This allows me to accept reality and feel more and more comfortable in my body. Good luck :)

60 years old and this is the Story of My Life I've been listening to the song since the 80s

The song ends as if it's incomplete, just like my dreams.

This song has always been my favorite Smiths song. I used to think it was about a person out on their luck and just wishing for salvation but really listening to it its about a good thing finally happening, the spark of hope being lit in the person's heart hoping to fan the flames into something substantial. This song has flipped 180 for me in just seconds I used to be so sad when I listened to it but now it makes me feel really good. Its all the same chords and same lyrics but it just feels completely different. Incredible

This song gives a voice to my soul. That’s what music should be about. Always grateful for this one.

Many of the great songs are simple. This is less than 2 minutes but Morrisey and Marr manage to create something which is beautiful , touching and achingly sad . Melodically and lyrically a masterpiece like much of the Smiths songs

so emotional rediscovering this song after years. was on constant repeat after 500 Days of Summer.

As much as I wish this was a longer song… It’s truly so beautiful that they can fit so much pain, pain I’m currently feeling, into just two verses.

Been trying to be brave for a very long time. I want to say everything to him and cry and i want him not to actually break me or ignore because if he does i will never get over it.

This is one of those timeless classic songs. Still sounding good all these years later.

My soul, the very core of my being, aches for a time and a place where I do not understand these lyrics whatsoever. A simpler time, and yet, I find comfort in it all. The feeling of being seen and heard.

@@plod5578HAHAHA, first, absolutely I'm not the only one who does care about him x,x Second, wrong adverb of yours, that ain't "the" reality, none of us has got the real one. And third you don't know anything at all of his life and you start to do dumb meaningless statements on a comments section, useless and pointless, so unless you surveyed his surrounding acquaintances, make sure to not screw the pooch cos I definitely wait that exhalation** not the verb exhale, and note that I don't quite know who he is.

When he says: ''Lord knows it would be the first time'', that's when I realised this song was the best song I've discovered this year and also where I was ready for an extra two minutes. I play this song on repeat like everyone else.

This song is absolute perfection.. I love the smiths and of course Morrissey. ♥️

The song metaphor. Like the track run time , life is incredibly short and we can waste it always in need of something to fulfill it. But we never get the pieces lined up and then it’s all over

coming back here because i always felt most of my birthday is the day where the truth is killed me. that day was full gloomy, no sun, i spend most of my day all alone in my room, my body is shaking, and got nervous everytime i seen people in my house. i always spend most of the day in my room but, i've never felt so empty like that day. also, after my birthday is over the worst luck come to me again and again at the first line, i was crying. realizing all i want is my friend say happy birthday to me at midnight before my birthday like they did to others. i don't know if they were my friends, i'm just calling them friends to make things easier i guess. i know this was too dramatic or whatever. i'm just telling this because we all strangers and we all know that we just come and go to this song. and i don't want to be seen as a fragile person in front of people i know... goodbye.
