Leanna Mation I know the feel. I haven't been on The Smiler (yet), but someone I know has a character based on it who I drew recently. I listened to the Smiler music the whole time and it got stuck in my head for days afterwards XD Even now it often gets stuck in my head.

I honestly love the music, it’s creepy but cool at the same time

The smiler looks so intimidating and creepy :)

That's the theme it's meant to really intimidate you before you get on the ride it.

I remember when i first went on this, the queue was all the way to the front of the castle, they had to put railings up to extend it, and i thought i was close to getting on but then there's the inside queue lmao

I was on that coaster virtually with the program NoLimits 2! But I wasn´t in real life. The music makes me crazy! I thought this coaster is not real... But it is... With the same music.

What the f***? It's not real laughing gas, it's just water vapour! @Miri Hirosho it doesn't make you "insane", it just tricks the mind. The queue makes you confused, though because it goes round and round in circles! And dat music.

Erin Warren It does say that but they don't mean it. It is completely illegal considering that people could have a fatal reaction to it because of medical reasons. Alton Towers themselves have stated that they don't use it

It broke down yesterday but I went on it when it had opened back up and we were around 10 mins in the line :) lucky I guess. It's an amazing coaster!

I don't know if you've ever been on it , but the queue layout is insane. You think you're headed one way and you have to go in the opposite direction. It's so confusing, but adds to the rides theme a lot I suppose. It's great xD

+lucky 13 saw is nowhere near this long. And from what I've seen X can be a nightmare if it's full queue is open, but this is by far the most ridiculous queue line I've ever been in

All the rides have queues as long as This apart from Galactica that has a much shorter one

Legend has it that they are still waiting...

I gotta admit, walking through that maze of fences with a queue and waiting in the hallways is a pain in the arse, but once your on it all seems so worth it xD

As someone that always buys queue jump tickets whenever I visit, I have to admit that the smiler is by far the best ride but also to queue in, because you can literally sprint round the maze like fast track section, while everyone that's been queuing for 2 hours is forced to watch you push past them. I can ride 6 or 7 times before they even get to go on once. It's worth it! Oh and FYI, it's around £700 for a 3 day, 2 night stay (including queue jump and food etg)

OH MY GOD. JUST GET A FASTRACK TICKET. I got one on my school trip, and it was £7.50 each. It was a school trip though so not everyone bought money to fastrack with.

***** I do agree though, queuing up for 1 hour to anticipate this ride, and with all of the cool effects inside, is one of the more bearable queues, and I might not have been as scared since I only waited for about 5 minutes for it!

We've just been to Alton Towers and Loved it.

This queue line not only makes feel like your being stalked by a psychopath, but it also makes you go deaf. :)

Yeah, I was there on Thursday too and i heard about the big commotion from friends about waiting in the line for hours only to be sent away when it shut down. I guess it's expected with a new (complex) ride, Roller coasters are like new shoes, they need to be broken in. Mind you, a lot of the rides broke down on Thursday, 13 and sonic spin-ball also broke down in the morning haha

i know i agree :( i went there the thursday before the crash back in the half term , the smiler was a good ride 3 and a half hours to get there there by car it was definalty worth the drive

It was a fault with the ride which is now fixed and I went on it after the crash and I loved it, also they got new trains which don’t have the illusions on the back of the seats to respect the people in the crash

yea Smiler is overrated. Way too many inversions and I know that's supposed to be the best part but it isn't. It's rough and I couldn't tell what was going on half the time with all the loops and heartline rolls...

Smiler isn't rough. Guess you didn't keep your head back. Also, 14 inversions isn't just what it offers. Pre lift, airtime hills, hangtime, awesome queue and theming, Marmaliser, great music.

Yep, Rita was closed for a bit too! :( With Smiler, we waited outside the queue for ages. Started near the toilets at the top of the hill. By the time the ride opened we are the very first two people in the queue after loads of people left lol. Well worth the wait though! 13's good, but could do with a bit more too it and that strange new Nemesis ride was .. odd..

I have had fast track there before, I think there is different types theres one with some of the rides on it and there's one with all the rides on I think I cant remember because it was last year

How long was the queue when you were there?

I know it's late but they do close parts of the queue. Each part of the maze has a hinge, so they can close off areas when it's quiet. They usually do this after around 4pm? It's usually all open at the start of the day because they don't know how busy it will be :)

You can. If you visit the Resort Box Office on Towersstreet you can buy it there. It is about £10 so more expensive than Air.

The queue line on Air/Galactica is not that long, it’s not worth it. I remember when I went on Nemesis the normal queue line was faster than the fastrack

After todays experience having been to the park for the first time ever, i think the queue line is way too long and claustrophobic for some, 3 hours is a bleeding sin if you ask me and also with some of the other rides, there needs to be benches put in because my legs gave weigh twice

is the que pen entertaining like oblivion or is it more like th13teen im going next month

It's like Oblivion, I suppose, you can listen to the music and watch the trains going around the track, on the assumption they are actually running and not broken down !

When i went I was 1 hour and 50 min que so me and my cousin bought fast track tickets it felt so good to just walk past almost 2 hours worth of a que and get straight on

I don't honestly know, this was filmed as the ride opened and it takes forever at walking pace, so when the queue is moving at normal speed I would imagine at least 2 to 3 hours, if your lucky ! :-(

Am I the only one that thinks the theming isn’t that great for this ride? The concept is awesome, but the queue looks like a regular, normal queue and while coaster itself is unique because of all the inversions, there aren’t any references to the creepy smiler concept the entire time you’re on it, aside from the music and a few video screens

It’s designed to be light that so you feel like you are enclosed and being brainwashed. The pen is meant to make you uneasy. I think more medical & sanctuary like theming would be great in the correction block and station though

Dude there was no laughing gas that was a myth. They aren't allowed to drug you on rides without permission and it's too much hassle. Like you said it caused asthma attacks

Flip Tube No it wasn't the rides fault. The operators overrode the system. Not a dangerous ride but a few dangerous operators who got fired.

It’s controlled by an extremely advanced Gerstlauer infinity coaster PLC. It’s not a problem with the ride. I called the smiler because of the theming about the Ministry Of Joy and medical procedures
