The Smallest Truck Around, The Daihatsu Midget II

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This video serves as a followup video to the previous one, Since then the vehicle has been fully Licensed and Registered for road use in Alberta. Waiting for clearer and warmer weather to have some more fun with this goofy little Rig. Hope you enjoy the Video!
I have SO MANY ideas for this little machine!

I have the 4 speed, and it's way zippier than this. Can get up to 90 km/h in a short highway onramp no problem. I heard the automatics are doggish but from watching this, holy cow, that's no joke! Also, make sure to keep putting premium in it! Not just because it's so cheap. It more closely matches the octane that they use in Japan, so I hear. If you guys have any questions about the midget, feel free to reach out. I have done most every repair possible to it, and know a decent bit about them!

Thank you for making this video. I'm contemplating buying a Daihatsu Midget II truck. However, I didn't know whether to purchase a one-seater with the standard transmission or a two-seater with the automatic transmission. The decision hinged on whether my wife would fit. Your video demonstrated that two reasonable-sized adults can squeeze in for short trips. So, two-seater it is! 👍 The downside of the automatic transmission is that it's a dog as far acceleration goes. But I'm not taking the Midget onto any highways or freeways, so that part is okay. The upside of the automatic transmission is that the passenger side window rolls down. And that sure beats opening up the passenger side door at fast food drive-thrus (to order, to pay for, and to pick up items).

The one seaters other window doesn't roll down? I wasn't aware of that! Makes me glad that he ended up getting the van instead of the truck! Do be weary of tires though! They are very hard to find. Thanks for watching! Id really like to make an update video on this little thing haha

What is the year of this and how do I import one? I’ve looked at some but I can’t get anything older than a 1996. :( Thank you!

This one is a 1997. Import restrictions are different in different countries so depending on where you are it might not be old enough to import yet.

They have to be 25 years or older here in the states. So each new year, you can get the next year up. 1996 this year, 97 next

I've been looking to import one of these (in BC) Do you still have it? Has it been fairly 'reliable' or easy to work on?

It does belong to my buddy there, I don't have it. It's been very reliable actually. He said the oil change was very very easy. Tires had to be brought in from the USA as they are 10 inch and don't sell them here.

Hey there thanks for watching the video! The van variations are typically called a "Cargo" where I believe this one is a "Cargo R" which was supposed to make a bit more power? And any research I've done has told me that the vans only come in Automatic (I could be wrong though)

@@fourleaf2452 I think you're right. All the ones that I've come across at auctions and online sales have been that way, cargo versions seem to always come with automatic transmissions and always with two seats. The truck versions seem to be configured with either manual transmissions (one-seaters) or automatic transmissions (two-seaters). Automatic transmission models only came out in late 1996, so almost all the 1996 models came with manual transmissions (I have yet to find a 1996 model with automatic transmission). Automatic transmissions became more commonplace in 1997 and later years. 2001 was the last production year of the Daihatsu Midget.
