Alex Turner was 15 when the Arctic Monkeys formed, so what? Kids just aren't in bands any more, quite apart from how the entire industry is inverted and people now just watch stuff on youtube or spotify instead of buying records (go figure) there is now hardly anywhere for them to play. That's not their fault. The world has changed and older generations are as culpable as anyone. There's still bands out there though, if you care to look.

I saw Big Country back in the early 80's, they were as good live as they were on record, it's a human tragedy about Stuart, he was so talented, but depression and alcoholism can be overwhelming I guess, he'll be missed. I feel privileged that I grew up during the late 70's and early 80's new wave/punk stuff, it was really ground breaking. I stopped listening to the charts around 1991, it wasn't as good as it had been ......

I was going through my mother's 7" singles today, some I knew, some I didn't. One of the ones I didn't know was Skids and it was 'Masquerade' (w/ 'Out of Town') and I fell in love immediately. Played it over and over, eventually looking up the rest of their stuff online and have just been obsessed. I've just wanted to talk to her about them and ask questions, but unfortunately I can't, and especially missed her today. Just some of the catchiest shit I've heard in a while, even bought some strings for my shitty Fender (usual guitar is always in Drop A) so I can try learn some of their songs. What a band.

Anyone else looking at this video and thinking ''A real punk band and yet the singer is wearing a white shirt and a tie!''? To me it shows just how much the world generally and fashion in particular has dramatically changed from 1979 to 2023. A great song from a great band!!

I had never heard of The Skids until they came to Bath, supporting The Stranglers in early 1979. Way more exciting than the main act. Jobson's energy and dance moves ( hybrid pogo/Northern Soul) left a deep impression.

Only 17, so sadly never seen The Skids but was always brought up on them along with big country as a result of being a pars fan. Stuart Adamson is truly a legend of the music industry and an inspiration. Such a shame that we tragically lost him but his roots on Dunfermline will never forget him or the legacy he had at East End Park. #ProudToBeAPar!

Awesome, I'm a huge Big Country fan from US. His soul spoke to me and his art was amazing. If not for U2, Big Country would be the greatest band from the New Wave era. But 2nd place is damn good too. Was grateful to have seen them live at a college near where I live. I know they heard me, I was the guy yelling "HARVEST HOME." had no idea they play from a set list. I love and miss him/them so much. Be blessed John, and be a blessing to others.
