The Sketchbook Series - Kim Jung Gi
Фильм және анимация
Take a peek into the mind of Kim Jung Gi.
Kim Jung Gi holds a Guinness World Record for the “Longest drawing by an individual for the Fisheye Art” Illustration category. This mighty Korean artist is known and adored by artists all around the world for his epic drawings and illustrations. Kim has published five sketchbooks that gather nearly 3500 pages of his art. He’s also published two comics in collaboration with the famous French writer Jean-David Morvan: “SpyGames” and “McCurry, NYC, 9/11”. His work has attracted and inspired millions - not only for the incredible drawings he creates but for his remarkable ability to visualize drawings before making a single mark. He draws on anything made of paper, from sketchbooks to toilet paper, receipts, and giant artboards. Today, when he is not working in advertising for some Korean company or managing AniChanga, his drawing school in Seoul, he’s traveling the world to meet people and get inspired.

I remember watching this a couple years ago in the midst of the pandemic. It inspired me to keep a private journal of sketches. It pains me to learn this man passed away today. What a loss for the art world.

I wanna be a concept artist and if I dont learn all these things I will not compete in this field. But I feel like once you have pushed through that first big mountain of frustration its like you dont wanna stop. When I encounter an issue I just wanna work on it till I feel like im getting better. I don't know why, but this video calms me and makes me feel peace. RIP Mr. Jung Gi - You are iconic.
Watching him draw fills me with wonder, his skill was truly amazing. It saddens me, the thought that we won't be spoiled with any more of his art. I always eagerly awaited his new sketchbooks and I'm happy to own one of his drawings. Life is so fickle, he will be missed, one of the GOATs.
Kim Jung Gi always draws faster than I can even write a sentence.
Can I see your greatest masterpiece? Jung gi: *Shows millions of papers* Which one?
Wow. This is like Michelangelo level of art. For Mike he said the sculpture was there he just needed to unearth it. This man’s the same. The drawings there, he just needs to ink it.

Sometimes I am afraid that Kim would give away clues about where he is hiding the bodies... :p
Every time I watch a vid of him drawing it feels like I'm watching an episode of Heroes or something. His ability to visualize an image and then translate it directly to paper without a pencil or construction is just otherwordly. It honestly does look superhuman at times (although it obv came from decades of hard work and practice).
He is motivating and demotivating me at the same time.
These type of artist are the closest we can get to understanding how God just creates. It’s so exhilarating to watch him create from nothing.
The way he draws the scene is unbelievable, rest in piece master your art lives on forever

I own the Omphalos book by Kim Jung gi which in my opinion is his best work because it’s all the stuff he isn’t really allowed to do in public event his more “perverted” work but I believe it’s some of his best work because it’s him at his most free and honest.

So effortless. Every line, every stroke, every movement of the hand is carefree. Not thinking of what will be needed to be done but only what will be on that paper and the rest comes with intuition. A true master indeed.
