"The shape is the embryo." Excellent quote/tip for character design.
this is a life hack for me, basically free grey/brown papers with out having to buy specialty sketch books.

@@IGarrettI He uses cereal boxes as grey/brown paper :) It's a really smart way to reuse them and get a different type of paper to work with!
He's driving me nuts scribbling on those beautiful originals!!! Awesome work from a master!
he's incredible, he never stopped to talk cuz full of knowledge and competence
Carlos is one of my favourite vis dev artists. hands down. He designed the lead characters for most of my favourite films. HIs understanding of shape design is so impressive. Such a knowledgeable and skillful artist, I could watch him sketch all day on cereal boxes!
wow he's so right eris looks so much better in his sketch they pretty much abandoned what he gave them
5:50 I love the way he says "skeleton"
I can actually imagine him giving a lesson in a classroom and i can totally se myself totally not being sleepy the entire class, even if that class is 3 hours long
He is such a great mentor and lovely person ! Thanks for sharing this ! made me miss THU

Love his work Carlos a great and humble person I met at Dreamworks! Supervising character designer for Prince of Egypt and El Dorado and Spirit!
One of my favorite one from the Sketchbook Series thank youuuuu!
This sketchbook series is truly fascinating! Many thanks for sharing :) I was a teenager when The Corpse Bride was released and I have always loved that film and its character designs.
It's a great feeling to know that I'm not alone when it comes to drawing on cereal boxes 😊.
Most valuable cereal box ever. Such a great style.
One of the best talks of 2019 and direct to the top10 of The THU Sketchbook Series!! Thanks!!

Thanks for reusing material as much as you can.
This man is an animation legend
Best episode yet. So cool to watch him just pull creatures out of thin air
Im a Tim Burton geek, and now I fucking love this guy, his art is literally the sort of things I adore. Edit: he drew for literally all of favorite movies😌 and I really didn't expect that to be the original art concept for Eris
This man created my childhood favs 💙 so much respect honestly
this has to be one of my favourite videos to watch on yt
The advice about shapes is great. Thanks.......Finishing the video, I went to my kitchen for some boxes :) . Good Idea!
wow, such a big inspiration from this guy, super interesting.. everything he is putting out there. Thank you
This is so helpful, thank u very much! We really appreciated it!
Inctedible style, this man is pure class.
Wow...I knew other artists must be using cereal boxes for their art besides me but I never came across any. Now, to see such a successful pro. uses them is very interesting to me. I'm known for my acrylic portraits on cereal boxes down here in Alabama & Florida. I really enjoyed this video.

Pj Lewis Aramaki Fox Funny, because I was just recently chastised by a YT artist for my comment that I use copy paper to practice so I don’t feel the need to be perfect. Now I’ve added cereal boxes and feel I’m in good company!

@@SDW90808 So many people use copy paper. It's actually good quality paper. It really comes down to how you use the medium to create an image in terms of line weight, value, dark and light, etc..
What an amazing artist! Thanks for the video, great stuff

Amazing skill ✨✨
Awesome stuff❤❤❤subscribed instantly 🤣
I’ve done sketches before on the boards used for comic book packaging, trust me it really works
Funny that Mayhew turned into a smoker instead. (He looks like a cupboard or an extention of his own carriage - but with tiny hands. Gentle giant kinda vibe. I like it)
Have you guys ever considered approaching the artists to release a series of collectible sketchbooks of their art? I know it would be impossible to include the licensed stuff because of copyright, but I would be so interested in buying just their own personal stuff. I love the rough doodly stuff, it helps as an artist to see the thought process and how they problem solve their designs.

Carlos Grangel might not be in it, but if you like looking at people's sketches there is The Sketchbook Project by the Brooklyn Library: www.sketchbookproject.com/
Wow cRlos out of this world. More please.
I think he should be the next James Bond..
Brilliant
YES
Carlos is a genius, period!
Hermoso
Really interesting ,Im keeping my cereal boxes now
he has eyes and face fit for James Bond. high class , smart, well educated , womanizer.
Love the video! Could you please add the artists socials? Would be awesome thanks !
Relief, no giggling in this one.
"with an apple"🍏.
Welp, gonna start saving these cereal boxes...
He must eat so much cereal
Porque Carlos Gardel?
I do the same thing with boxes and cardboards
Funny I've used scrap paper and napkins for sketch work.
I don’t have a canvas. I paint on paper.
Does he mention what paper he used?

This channel would be 1000% better if the camera person calmed down and we got to see the sketches and not facial pores and blurred side shots.
