Yeah I really feel like they're a neglected part of the lore and they're a faction I legitimately don't know much about even after researching Warhammer 40k lore for tens of thousands of hours across the span of years. I know almost every other factions lore encyclopaedically but only know a little amount about the sisters of silence. I know significantly more about the custodes than I do the sisters of silence.

@@dragonlord498 i was actually just today creating a fanfic/campaign in my head where Tzeentch and Slanesh had a hilarious desire to team up and screw over the Emperor with the Femstodes. One would be wearing a slaneshy paludron and the other a Tzeentchian. Slaneesh at that point would assume full female form and act more like a genuine, albiet evil lady then the Femstodes would due to obvious reasons that are obvious. At this point I'd rather take the Chaos Queen/Goddess Slaneesh over the Turbo Feminazi bullshit being shoved down our throats. Poor Sisters of Silence man...

I think there is a very good lore reason for how the Sisters of Silence were able to grow and equipt their numbers without anyone noticing. The Custodes. With their close connections it wouldn't be a surprise that the Custodes played a part in ordering the gear for them because who is going to question the Custodes on why something is being ordered? Then shipping it to the Sisters Luna base where it then gets sent out as classified or dangerous so noone questions what it is. That all makes sense to me with how the Imperium works.

If GW expanded the SoS to have their own assault marine or repentia equivalent, then no one would be mad. But that would require GW to make new miniatures for a faction that isn’t marines or guard.

Maybe the Unspeakable King was the ruler of a nation of blanks. Perhaps their home was a place that at one point had contained a relatively small population of blanks who had been living as outcasts before Chaos ravaged their homeland, leaving the blanks as the only survivors. Now it's possible that they had no idea how or why they had survived but just knew that they had to stick together and rebuild. And so, a kingdom of blanks came to be.

Regarding the dubious legend of the "913th regiment" and the absolute impossibility of randomly gathering a thousand Nulls. While very likely it was some obvious bureaucratic cover story for whatever Top Secret operation actually occurred; there's always the possibility that some random planetary governor with very odd "personal tastes" had been assembling his own unique equivalent of the Potsdam Giants (at which point the Inquisition would've rolled their eyes, covered it up and welcomed them into the fold).

I think there is a reason it was the "913th regiment": a fast search show, in numerology, it can be interpreted as "show your ability" it probably was the Emperor sending his newly created secret regiment of Null Maidens to show off thier capabilities in the field.

@@painlord2k Well if we're going into number meaning/games; one could also argue that it's an amalgam of Rome's 9th and 13th Legions, both of which were pretty significant (both in the area of Britain which would be why a Games Workshop writer would think of them, and in general). The 9th Legion is famous as the "missing legion" as they vanished from records/history and it's unknown what happened to them. The 13th was Julius Ceaser's personal right-hand Legion, aiding him in a lot of his core accomplishments (including "crossing the Rubicon").

Ah, the real female "custodians". Though they are not truly of the Custodes, I can't think of too many true fans of the lore that would be upset if you conflated the two for the 40k setting. Maybe in the 30k setting, when Big E was still wielding his infamous weapon, "Loin breaker, the unbending", but in the current day of 40k no one would be upset.

The Sisters of Silence do what the Custodes can not. The Emperor's Ten Thousand are peerless warriors to man, each equal to an entire army of lesser beings but they are not much use against threats from the Warp. It was the Silent Sisters who pushed Magnus back towards the Webway Gate on Luna, thus saving Guilliman's life.

Besides when Abnett wrote about her null were all just nulls. The null-levels is a recent change, right?

Too valuable, they would never risk them that way. Nulls come about less frequently than Psykers. 1 orbital bombardment and you have wiped out an entire Segmentum’s supply of Nulls, which could have been used offensively. Now…setting up a planet, seeding it with say, 500 Nulls, in an obscure part of the galaxy that is protected, but not making it obviously protected. Make sure to keep contact and help them build society, wait a few hundred to a 1,000 years…you can probably have a population to seed a few more planets. In another 3,000 years, probably have lost some of these planets, but have gained populations of millions, maybe even reaching billions depending on factors (Earths population is estimated to have reached 1 billion around 1804 and 1.6 by 1900, and we have skyrocketed since then you know). And now you can have armies of entirely nulls. Only problem with this plan is that Chaos WILL CARE about this once they discover it. Something like this would probably be viewed worse than even Papa Smurf coming back to unite the Imperium. I mean, what happens if you send a null to the Eye of Terror? IDK, but if you send a million? That would surely affect the Eye like the Cadian Pylons

We have an idea of what would happen thanks to the Culexus Temple. Once upon a time, the Culexus Temple, like all other Assassin Temples, was set up on Terra, but after a certain Grand Master dived off the deep end and tried to use the Assassins to take over the Imperium, the newly installed high level leaders and brass felt like they were gonna get ganked for just breathing. So they managed to work out a number of agreements with the Temples, but then when it came to the Culexus, their already high levels of paranoia sky-rocketed and it took a lot of talking to burn enough time for the key members and facilities of the Culexus Assassin Temple to be smuggled off of Terra and flown towards their new home, a rogue unknown planet on the edge of the Galaxy far from even the Astronomicon. While iirc, a number of bodies were presented to the paranoid higher ups at the time to convince them that the temple was no more. The fact that Blanks of even the weakest levels make "normal" people uncomfortable by their presence, to the point that Blank infants are commonly offed. An entire planet of them would have people twitching to massacre the population, simply because an entire planet of Blanks would just feel... _wrong_ .

If there was a planet made up purely of blanks, happily living their lives and popping out blank kids, what would the effect be on the local warp space? If there were enough blanks to crew a large fleet of void ship, would they have an easier time flying in warp space due to their blankness? (assuming the navigator survives the experience)

@@Stormcrow_1 I'm not sure how Blanks react to each other, I've yet to read most of books, especially where Blanks meet and react to each other because they are just that rare. Most Blanks don't even know they are Blanks, all they know people don't like them for no reason. An educated guess regarding their effect on the local warp, I'd imagine they'd be something similar to the Shadow that the Hivemind casts when a Tyranid Fleet approaches a planet...OH FU- a planet of Blanks means that a Hive Fleet would get enough genetic material to create their own Blanks... As for a ship crewed, staffed, and inhabited by Blanks, I'd imagine so, but no Astropath would ever want to be attached to the ship (likewise no Astropathic Choir would ever want to live on a planet of Blanks). Honestly, I'm not even sure if the ship would be seen by warp denizens as nothing more than an empty blank moving spot with a tiny spark that is the Navigator's soul.

GW can fix this Tzeentchstodes fiasco by simply declaring that the supposed female Custodes were actually misidentified SoS. That would make a degree of sense, considering the SoS are far more valuable as secrets, whereas people are well aware of who and what Custodes are. Blanks are a lot more useful when people by and large don’t know what a blank is. “Oh, that woman in golden armor is just a female Custodian… I thought you knew those existed?” is a really good in-lore way of keeping just what a SoS is on the downlow.

Alternative theory - the imperium survives depsite chronic incompetence and understaffing. The black ships are stuffed to the roof with pyskers with 2 stressed sisters on board.

There seems to be a audio glitch a little past half way through. KZread in its tireless efforts to make its platform completely unusable has taken the visionary step of making it impossible to get what the current timestamp of the video playing, but in stead tells me how much time remains on the video. With that in mind the glitch is from -26:12 to -25:55

The logistics of the Sisters of Silence returning to WH40K after so many milleniums is pretty simple: 1) Custodes saw the VERY valuable 2) Custodes continued to support them. Not need to actively maintain a secret, just no one would ask a Custodes what is for the list of things he is telling (more ordering) you to deliver. 3) The King in Yellow support them as well 4) If they collaborate with discretion, no one would know anything. it is not like Custodes & SoS & KiY people talk around with outsiders.

To be fair, a pariah warlord during the Age of Strife makes sense, someone capable of total immunity to the mass deployments of warp weaponry and psykers would likely have folks flocking to his protection even if it filled them with incalculable dread, still beats getting caught between the sorcerer's fighting for dominance. And if said warlord decided to flee or submit, im sure the Emeperor would be so kind as to grant a fife far away from people looking to lynch them, for a minor tithe of a few choice ones for various purposes (Culexus Temple, Silent Sisters, Ordo Sinister, etc)

For example, is the NBA not racist for it’s appalling lack of white representation? After all white males make up about 34% of the total US population yet about 1 in 30 NBA players are white. Then you can’t have Astropaths or Navigators so while humanity would be protected from the Warp you would be vulnerable to Orks as you wouldn’t have an Imperium just a lot of little Emipres of a few systems or less as you would have to make blind Warp jumps.

It would be funny if Blanks would be realities "immune response" to Chaos influence.

Considering that the Necrons used to have a Pariah unit it’s more likely that they made them to deal with the the Warp which is their greatest weakness.

GW must be full of psychers given the neglect towards the SoS.

Do psychic blanks have the same repulsive effect on other psychic blanks? I assume no, otherwise having a team would be difficult. Also if a normal human knows that someone is a psychic blank, could they overcome their dislike of them, or are they just never going to enjoy being around them? Man I got so many questions!

Inquisitor Eisenhorn could barely tolerate being hugged by Bequin, despite being in love with her and fighting alongside her for decades. The closer they get physically the more pain and revulsion he would feel but he would suppress it to not hurt her feelings as it’s not her fault, it’s just what they are. A psyker and a blank. Magnetic attraction and repulsion all in one.

Finally, the one of my top 3 favourite factions of 40k. Good job, Arch

Given the rarity of the pariah-gene/blanks, I am surprised that SoS are not given dreadnoughts as their basic war gear. With the Space Marines, the Custodes, the Sisters of Battle; they are altered and trained into being what they are, and the millions of baseline humans dying during training is an acceptable cost to create these Elite formations, as the Imperium has trillions more. The SoS, on the other-hand, their power is *inate* with no reliable replenishment method. They would be so absurdly valuable to anti-chaos activities and so hard to replace if they were KIA that just giving them power armor (without helmets) seems odd. One random tribal with a well aimed javelin to the head and, poof, your one in a trillion witch-killer is dead.

They probably only get deployed within a much larger combined arms force of Astartes or Guard to protect them, however your point is still very valid. Random artillery fire or bullets don’t care who you are. They could al least give the Conversion Force fields like an Iron Halo or Rosarius. Those can be manufactured in enough numbers to be given to the Guard commanders.

In the name of equality we demand Brothers of battle and Brothers of silence. The door swings in both directions ay?

What if the Sisters were one of the God Emperor's Creations? With the Custodes, he's got a fanatically loyal bodyguard who guards him against physical threats, and in the Sisters, one that guards against pyschic threats. If they were genetically enhanced by the Emperor, that might be why He could stand their presence.

@@ClearlyCero not even tourists like the misters of battle, they just pretend to in order to score some imaginary victory against "the chuds" but legit, if people just hate beauty I have the perfect solution - give the sisters battle damage - a missing eye, half a head of hair pulled out, half a melted jaw, that kinda thing. that would make them even more badass, if they can keep fighting like that, all while belting out prayers to the emperor, as normal human women. nah better just make them look like terry crews with perfectly groomed wigs. that's very inclusive and empowering, I hear.
