The Sisterhood - Giving Ground 7" (Less known short version)
Музыка
Song: Giving Ground
Artist: The Sisterhood (aka Andrew Eldritch aka The Sisters Of Mercy)
Record: Giving Ground 7"
Release date: 1986
---
This is not the wide known long version taken from The Sisterhood's only album "Gift", no, this is actually the shorter 7" version. Personally, I prefere this one, because it feels more coherent.

I much prefer this version to the 12" version, thanks for the upload and reminding me what a great song it is! I remember when it was released and I went to the record shop 'Our Price' in Lewisham, London, to buy it. The girl behind the counter said they had the limited edition boxed set of it and seeing as 'limited editions' were a big thing with my friends and I, I said I'd take it! Then I saw it was a sealed box and thought I'd like to play it at home but keep a sealed one for posterity so I said to the girl I'd take two for them. She replied that the shop had four so I thought what the hell, and I walked out with all four. To this day I still have the four boxed limited editions with only one of them ever being opened and played! Ah, the good old days of my youth, buying excellent vinyls and collectibles!
SIS 010... still playing just fine 26 years later. Perfectly arranged, right down to the last note. Viva The Sisterhood. Dios Esta De Nuestro Lado, truly.
Thanks for putting this demo on YT! Love the finished song on the Sisters of Mercy album, way better, but its amazing to hear this version.
I couldn't agree more. This version really works. Thanks for posting.
I prefer this one too. Brilliant song
Auf LP.ein Traum.❤❤❤
Thanks for uploading - a great track. I have the 7" somewhere!
Great song....straight Fire right here
This song gives a more complete native of what the song is trying to say.
So I just learned that this album was a collaboration between Andrew Eldritch and Alan Vega of the band Suicide. I'm impressed. I had this single too, but it was lost due to stupidty over the years.

Emphatic .
brilliant upload
I bought this, the B-side is a brilliant instrumental.
Andrew E. I think he's a self-taught and a guy who likes to work alone (maybe a healthy aversion to social situations), a good musician ... and I don't know him, but he sure must be a good-natured, nice guy and a good person I guess ... I just know that I like his music ... and he surely must be an angel of a person ... adorable and enthusiastic like no one

@@DS-uz7nd Okay. I corrected my comment ... really that being lonely and working little in a team has nothing to do with autistic behavior ... Corrected ok

Hmmm ..not sure about that . Most people who've ever been in the Sisters seem to hate him!

Favorite version, what are the other versions for kind of joke?
bought this the day it came out, and still think it's the best thing Eldritch has done since FALAA. (don't like the extended version on the album though. gah. James Ray's vocal is the best part lol)

Really? You'd put Gift above Floodland? Interesting opinion, would love to hear more about why you feel that way.

@@Icantdothatrightnow I would put Gift, Alice and Body Electric above Floodland too to be honest or maybe any other of their releases.

@@Icantdothatrightnow no, i put this track (the RSV version) above anything on Floodland. Floodland is great though, but this track is epic. I was expecting Floodland to be more like this. was... dissapointed.. when This Corrosion dropped lol
Thank you so much. I love this song like an addiction almost and this is lovely. Appreciate it. Also loving how snappy and sharp and REAL the sound is. Fk ppl who don't like vinyl.
I like the mix and James Ray's vocal on this version but I do wish they'd given that divine bassline a bit more breathing room before kicking the verse off. Letting that bassline curl its way around you is one of the song's greatest pleasures.
is this the vocal Alan Vega or James Ray?
