Regarding tackling Big Red, another proof that having the correct tyre pressures does wonders. You don't need "full send" every time. Well done to Elsie for making it up without ripping up the track. ✊👍 Thanks for the full disclosure and info. Very helpful.

As usual great vlog.Brought back some great memory’s . Did the Simpson 30 odd years ago in a 1976 petrol shorty forty , shod with retread bar treads . Went with a club group that had the latest then new Toyota’s . They drove to fast , wrong tyre pressures , overloaded etc etc. Sounds like not much has changed . Incidentally the only 4wd that did not brake down or get stuck regularly , was the 40 . Keep up the good work . Cheers guys

Drove the QAA Birdsvile to Eyre creek and back last year in half a day, we didn't go for the corner and back as it was a long day, and it had rained so the mud out to the corner wouldn't have been possible. In a modern 4wd (prado), with the exception of the hard line up big red where you need to give it more boot, 2nd gear, 2000-3000 revs, you will get over everything. The hardest dune on the QAA westbound is the one after big red, they get smaller from there. You don't need speed for momentum. Good throttle control, low tire pressure (10-12 PSI) and the QAA is a walk in the park

Awesome wrap up guys. Definitely a trip to add to my bucket list. I know this would change for everybody, because every vehicle is different, everyone's setup is different, but can you give some insight into total costs to do the trip? Fuel, food etc. When we did our 4 week Melbourne to Central Australia trip, via Flinders, Oodnadatta track, we worked out a rough cost, and budget etc. It would be good to have a rough idea so when planning to do this trip, you have something to work off as a starting point to budget, and what to expect to spend. Great work again guys. Very envious of you, watching from home in hard lockdown in Melbourne :(

Over the years I’ve crossed the Simpson 4 times. Each and every trip was completely different. The last time I crossed was a dozen years ago & it sounds like there’s a lot more traffic out there these days, such a pity. My take away from your sum-up was it seems like idiots have buggered this up to, such a shame. I will go back & take a look asap. Maybe travelling at a different time might yield different traffic conditions? It’s going back many years but on one of my trips I only passed 1 convoy of vehicles, if I don’t count the people playing on Big Red. It sounds like that won’t happen again ☹️

Towing has nothing to do with the track condition. It's tyres and experience. Some even say that dragging a non driven axle/wheels actually helps smooth out the soft sand. Im not sure about that, but trailers are fine, it's the people that make it what it is.
