We use blackout curtains throughout the whole house! They help not only with keeping the light out if we need to sleep during daytime hours, but they also help us with our heating and cooling costs by quite a bit. I have never seen a sleep site do a review on these before either, really good idea that you did one!

Ironically, she is showing the wrong types of curtains and rods. For truly blackout, it is preferable to get cloth curtains without large metal attachment hoops as they allow large gaps that light can pass through. Light is like water in that it will find it's way through any weak point or gap. ALSO, you want to have curtain rods that are curved at the ends. This wraps the cloth curtain around it and holds it more closely to the wall which is ideal.

Thanks for showing each step of the install. I prefer to sleep when its completely dark and these curtains would be helpful to get a good night sleep.

I'm disabled and stuck in bed. I'm living in a 5th wheel and the sun is always right in my eyes!!! I'm barely getting any sleep as it is so I sleep alot during the day. THESE WOULD BE A LIFESAVER!! =)

I have a projector in my bedroom and my old curtains were allowing too much ambient lights on my screen washing out the picture quality so i purchased some blackout curtains and it made a big difference. Great video, very helpful. Keep them coming

had to get some of these for my room because my blinds don't block anything and at 6 am it gets annoying needed to get these thx for the tutorial

you should also have a non contact electrical tester as well ( one that can find electrical wires behind the walls surface, drilling into a wire could be a shocking if not expensive experience )

new home owner. All windows I installed blackout curtains. I work swing shifts, and it keeps the house cool on these 90 degree days.

we installed to be a buffer for noise and cold/heat and to be able to nap during day

My Blackout Curtains came in very handy while working the nightshift and sleeping in the morning.

Is it important to choose a rod anchor that's holding the rod as flush to the wall as possible? How do we choose the right one? I was considering the NoNo

I hit some as I only get to sleep in on the weekends. The sun wakes me up at 7 and I can never get back to sleep. I got some today and I’m so much happier.

Personally I hate the dark. But my kids like it totally dark, like their Dad did. So the guest room is to have black-out grommet curtains. (1955 house still has original draw curtain rods.) That room gets afternoon & evening light, not much morning sun. I hope to do it myself, but at 70 who knows. You suggested 5" from the top & 3" at the sides. Would that hold true with old draw rods? Will I be able to use these old style rods?

Is it important to have a curtain rod that curves right to the wall so the blackout curtain actually makes a quarter turn to the wall for total blackness? I'm also wondering about light, like street lights, over the top of the curtain?

My security cameras are in the windows. The IR light window reflection was an easy fix by blocking the IR light on the camera with black tape, then adding an IR light remotely. But the problem I'm having now is inside light reflection on the window at night trips the motion sensors. I can build a black box to go around the cameras to block the light inside but I figure why not get the added noise abatement along with the thermal advantages a Blackout curtain offers! So really I need Blackout curtains to block light IN, not OUT. (Funny how that works. I've been going against stream since before I was born)!!! LOL

My bedroom window faces east so in the morning it’s really bright and my girlfriends not a morning person so she said get blackout curtains for when she spends the night

The room facing south east is mostly unshaded outside. Hopefully the blackout curtains will help keep out the heat.

This is going to sound like I'm being critical, but I'm honestly just trying to help others do this right. You made a few mistakes (at least in my opinion). I never mark directly onto a wall. I put masking tape on the wall and mark on the tape. After drilling the holes through the tape then it can be removed. At 3:26 you drew the mark on the wall exactly where the screw DOESN'T go. The screw should go into the neck right above where you marked for the hole. Notice at 4:40, after the screw is installed at your location, the bracket has slipped down the neck leaving a 1/4-inch gap between the top of the bracket and where you made the pencil mark on top. It seems to be not critical for your installation, but it might be more important in other installations. For example it is the difference between full length curtains dragging on the ground or not dragging on the ground. Also, and this is a nit, you put the curtains on the rod incorrectly. The correct way is to run the rod through the front of the curtain first, not the back as you did. These instructions are in the bag with the curtains. The difference is the curtain looks "closed" at the ends. Thanks for the inspiration to put blackouts in my bedroom!!

Great video thank you, but at 3:36...ensure to run the drill in a clockwise direction when making the pilot hole, much easier going through and results with a better finish.

If you hit a stud, just don't use the anchors. It's better to screw directly into a stud then to anchor in drywall.

Got rgb bulbs for my room and it would be a waste to only use them at night

Yes, it was annoying, hard to listen to.

Uh, I've never done anything with tools at all, and listening to her high-speed explanation of how to do this wasn't helpful.

I like this video, but I don't like the use of tape measure, because it wastes time, and if your hand shifts a little, you end up with a small mistake on the location where you mark. I'd rather use a tool called the Rody Precision Corner to both save time, and also be precise.

Can I put the curtain with the Decorative panel on the outside of the window, that is the foam insides and still keep out heat or cool

You talk so fast during parts of this video, it was painful to listen to.
