How sad to see it go. I was a welder on the Spade back in the mid seventies. I remember when we replaced the boom support cables that they blew up. It was an amazing machine.

This is unbelievably sad to see. it's like some great workhorse being put down in the field cos it's no longer useful to the suits in charge of the dollars. At least we can still watch hours of her working, on Bennettshovel,

The men that operate and work on these large machines grow to love and respect them > It's a very sad day to these men when their large machine is destroyed.

Sad this happens to these AWESOME machines. Where I live, AMAX had a BE 3270 dragline & up the road PEABODY had a Marion 5900 shovel with the same results. Most people don't even know these things exist, let alone watch them work, a sight to behold!!! I've taken pic's and thanks to videos like this, my kids will know these machines walked the earth.

How depressing, this is like having to put your dog down. Nothing awesome ever hangs around, dogs, steam locomotives, ships and giant shovels. They give and give and give for no reward

I’d consider this Murder A hate crime And the destruction of a historic monument I wish to see that coal company suffer for murdering the spade

Destruction of historic monuments and statues of national heroes is an evil specific to the Torah and Talmud. Guess who was tearing down all of our statues two or three years ago? The same ones (in the shadows) who decided to demolish the Spade and Big Muskie. The cost the cost the cost.... If those machines were somehow important to Israel, they would've been saved no matter the cost.

One of the saddest days I've ever seen. THE END OF AN ERA is right. I grew up watching a Marion 5761 sitting in a field, and it just disapeared one day as I recall (I was 5 or 6) and later on I watched Freeman United's 1050B and Bucket wheel work, and now I hear that they are both gone too...

I dont understand why they would get rid of it. It must of payed for if self a 100 times over. Even if it was horribly broken, to fix it would pay more then to buy anuther probily by a few million ( i would think becuase of the huge size price wise). And even it the mine closed they could send it to anuther part of the country, I know they can reasemble them. Did they take up to much power or werent green enoff? Just sad to see it go.

They should have gave the preservation movement for this machine a chance instead of having it blown up this is what happened to Big Muskie people tried to save it because they cared about it and idiots had it blown up so I could not be saved so that people couldn't preserve it

Okay, I have to ask. Why are there so many of essentially the same comment as opposed to just liking the first comment to say it? I figure few people read the comments to know someone else already said what they are going to say.

@MrEletrotik Bucyrus was bought out by CAT in 2011. And even if some rich guy wanted an identical shovel, I dont think the equipment used to make the massive parts are still around. so that wud mean Mr. rich would have to pay for all of that as well. At this point ir looking at hundreds of millions. But ya if he walked into CAT and said hey money isnt an issue here, build me a silver spade twin im sure they do it. If your pockets are deep enough you can get just about anything. lol
