It was very interesting to hear an early piece by Sir Doyle. While melodramatic by today's standards, it was good enough for the London Society magazine, and therefore, good enough for me. Thank you for chronicling it.

This story, as some of the others, suffers a bit from people expecting one genre and getting another. Taken as a horror story, and not as a detective story, there's startlingly visceral horror in it. This has to be one of the darkest stories he wrote in that regard. The concept of what the Silver Hatchet actually does to people is horrifying.

Greg Wagland is the best audiobook narrator out there.. he's a master. I can't decide him or Scott Brick... Both are great..

I used to call my son 'Lambchop' when he was a toddler although his swedish mother said it sounds a bit off in swedish (shades of Julian and Sandy), forget Magpie how about 'Bona Audio'?

Now I have to wonder how the Baker Street Boys would've handled this case. Would Sherlock have touched the handle, and thus made a run at Watson, or would he have considered the last opinion given, perhaps done his own research, then supervised the destruction of the hatchet and the remnants of its handle via smelter's flame?

I'm just in the process of preparing a presentation for a literature course on Gothic literature of the 19th century at Bonn University on the 1st December, so this recording is extremely timely. Incidentally, as a Brit with German citizenship, i.e. a foot in both language camps, you made a really, really good stab at the German on the piece of paper towards the end. Hats off to you for that, or as they say over here "Hut ab!" Keep up the good work and Gb!

Sherlock Holmes Stories Magpie Audio Yes actually I do, The setting is of course Medieval times and it’s a full length novel, but Conan Doyle always considered it to be the best thing he had ever written in his lifetime. I’d recommend you check it out at least.

*SPOILER ALERT* I like the ending as it implied a cursed object that was not cursed ...that's all I'll say so as not to *spoil* it for anyone new to this story🔪

I lost control when we came to the clever poodle.😄👍 How many takes did it, ah, take to get this one read coherently and without laughter?

Great story. Kept waiting for you to go off track. I could hear the laughter just waiting in your voice!
